untitled / LP

Silvia is the name of a Neue Deutsche Welle (NDW 'New German Wave') project created Tommi Stumpff & Silvia Nemanic. The pair met in Düsseldorf in the late 70's and started dating when Tommi was the singer of punk band Der KFC. Silvia was absolutely inexperienced in musical things, she said 'I've played the recorder'. Tommi rented Klangwerkstatt studio for a few days in January 1982 to record his an album with his bandmate Ferdinand Mackenthun aka Käpt'n Nuss of Der KFC, but finished earlier than expected. With one extra day that was already paid for, they quickly wrote some more songs and recorded them. All they needed was a singer, so they asked Silvia. Simply titled 'Silvia', the record was released in mid-1982 on cult label Schallmauer Records, which had released many German punk, NDW and new-wave records in the 80's. Tommi and Käpt'n Nuss played all instruments and wrote the lyrics. Since Silvia had a very deep voice, Tommi slightly pitched up her vocals to sound higher on the recordings. The album displays Tommi's transition from punk rock to cold electronics, EBM and eventually techno. Tommi's instrument set up was a Sequential Circuits Pro One and Moog Prodigy controlled by a Fricke sequencer and a Korg SQ-10 Analog Sequencer. Silvia urges the listener to save themselves and says 'No miracle will happen you die tomorrow, young and guilty' evoking the urban Zeitgeist of the Cold War. Housed in the original jacket featuring a full color of Silvia on the front with hand drawn magenta type. Each copy includes a replica insert of the original lyrics sheet in German and a postcard featuring a black and white photo of Tommi and Silvia. Sadly Silvia passed away in 2003 and this reissue is dedicated to her.

transdance / 12"

All 4 mixes of "Transdance" by Night Moves as a tribute dedicated to the lives lost in the Oakland Ghost Ship fire on December 2, 2016. Night Moves was the brainchild of Michael Guihen, from South London. Inspired by seeing Tubeway Army perform on Top of the Pops in 1979 he placed an add to form a synth-based band in the NME. In November 1980 he was introduced to Denis Haines, formerly Gary Numan's keyboardist on the 'Telekon' album. Denis and Michael worked closely together, writing a number of backing tracks. One of these was the farewell song from Gary Numan to his band Tubeway Army, "Love Needs No Disguise". In exchange for this backing track, Denis gave Michael the studio time needed to develop "Transdance". The 1st version of "Transdance" was recorded in late Spring 1981 at Ridge Farm Studio in Surrey and within the week Michael had a recording deal with GC Recordings. This mix of "Transdance" was pressed onto a white label GC1 and was sent to clubs around Britain and Europe. In Summer 1981 he met John Davis (aka John Darc) also part West London's new romantic scene. They recorded the 2nd mix of "Transdance" at Matrix Studios in London early 1982, and John added the new bass line. This was titled 'U.K. Disco Mix' and released by GC Records. On this mix the backing vocals were sung by Eve Goddard, Adam Ant's ex-wife. In March 1983 Michael and John turned to New York's budding electro & hip-hop scenes to have Jay Burnett remix the 'New York Disco Mix'. Back in London, the duo disappeared into the cutting rooms at Utopia studios with Francis Usmar and emerged with the final dub edit 'Robot Rock'. All 3 later mixes were programmed with a Roland TR-808, some live drums, and one homemade handclap machine. "Transdance" was embraced by Chicago's WBMX, Hot Mix 5 and Ron Hardy as well in New York at Larry Levan's Paradise Garage and Tony Humphries' Club Zanzibar in New Jersey. It is considered a blueprint that traces the line from UK synth-pop to Chicago house and Detroit techno. Housed in the original jacket featuring a black and white photograph of 2 mannequins dancing set against a cantaloupe hue. Each copy includes a 2-sided 11" square insert with lyrics and drawings of all 36 victims of the Oakland Ghost Ship fire. Also included is a 6 page booklet with liner notes, original press kit sheets and photographs from the band's archive. 100% of all profits will be donated to the Oakland Fire Immediate Relief Fund.

cockerill-sombre / 12"

The Neon Judgement hail from the small town of Leuven near Brussels, Belgium and gave birth to the new-beat and EBM scenes worldwide with the release of their 1st 2 cassettes 'Suffering' (1981) and 'TV Treated' (1982). Always a consistent duo of Dirk Da Davo (synthesizers, vocals) and TB Frank (guitar, drum machine, vocals), The Neon Judgment worked in a parallel world alongside Suicide, Cabaret Voltaire, and the Deutsche Neue Welle. In 1983 they released the infamous 4-song 'Cockerill-Sombre' ep containing the dancefloor smash "The Fashion Party" on Anything But Records. Dirk Da Davo says, 'First we recorded and mixed the drum parts and effects on 4-track, then we bounced this mix to 2 tracks again what left us with 2 more channels to use for vocals and additional instruments'. Veering between minimalistic industrial drones, odd new-wave-ish synth-pop and dance music, underlain by cold, mechanical rhythms. The band combine brash and seedy lyrics, with raw synthesizer stabs and repetitive drum machine beats both aggressive and danceable. 'Cockerill-Sombre' was recorded in a small basement room under the watchful eyes of Ludo Camerberlin from A Blaze Colour. Housed in the original jacket featuring a black and white photo of the duo performing live. Each copy includes a 2-sided 11" square insert with photos of the band, lyrics, and liner notes by Dirk Da Davo.

sound of danger / LP

Espen Beranek Holm is a Norwegian musician and comedian, born 1960 and began his music career as a clarinetist. Inspired by early synthesizer bands Kraftwerk and The Residents, he began making experimental pop music. His debut single "Dra Te' Hælvete" was released in 1981 and was immediately banned by national TV/radio channel NRK due to explicit lyrics. This gave the young artist tons of publicity, helping the single spend almost 6 months on the national charts. Beranek returned to the Starholm Studios in Oslo from june to september 1981 to record 9 new compositions. His debut album, 'Sound Of Danger', was released on Mind Expanding Records in november 1981. Nowhere near as accessible as the previous single, the album fared poorly commercially. Withdrawing from the single's fun, kitsch pop, the album is cool and static, driven by thin rhythm boxes, cold synths and glacial guitars. Taking heavy cues from David Bowie, all of the songs are sung in a nasally English accent, a rare occurrence in Norway at the time. The lyrics are melancholic, but tinged with paranoia. There are also upbeat tracks that evoke a prog or glam sensibility a la King Crimson, Alan Parsons, or Roxy Music. Housed in the original jacket featuring red, black and white lines that evoke a visualized Richter Scale designed by Monica Moltzau. Each copy includes a 2-sided 8x11" insert with lyrics and an autographed press photo of Beranek.

susan sleepwalking / 12"

The Arms Of Someone New was formed in 1983 in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois by Mel Eberle and Steve Jones. Steve managed and helped record Mel's band The First Things; while in the studio to demo some of Mel's songs, they started collaborating. Both grew up around their families' pianos and got into psychedelic rock drawing inspiration from Jimi Hendrix and The Beatles, taking their name 'The Arms Of Someone New' from a line on a Beatle's X-Mas Fan Club Single. They modeled their sound after the melancholic side of Factory Records, The Cure's 'Faith' period and The Teardrop Explodes. Between 1983 and 1985 they released 4 cassettes, one 7", and one 12" ep. In september 1985, the duo self-released their debut full length 'Susan Sleepwalking' on Office Records. To They drafted locals for the album's recordings, including Lynn Canfield, Henry Frayne, Brenden Gamble and Joe Strell (all of the group Ack-Ack!) as well as Nick Rudd. Equipped with Casio keyboards, drum machines, and jangly guitars, The Arms Of Someone New provided an American take on English folk, ambient, and industrial music. Over the album's 10 tracks they paint pictures of stillness with sparse instrumentation and simple chord change. Psychedelic vocals add a dream-like veneer. The Arms of Someone New fearlessly mix genres without sacrificing the unity of their vision. 'Susan Sleepwalking' could as well be retitled 'Music For Interiors' (both architectural and of the mind - The Michigan Daily 1985). Housed in the original jacket featuring a blood red-tinted photograph with ghostly textures. Each copy includes a 2-sided 11" square insert with lyrics and press clippings from the band's archive.

silence / 2x12"

East Wall was an Italian electronic dark wave band started by Fabrizio Chiari (ex-keyboardist of Kirlian Camera) and Wilma Notari in 1982. After a series of demos and live performances, the duo recruited Angelo Bergamini of Kirlian Camera to help with arrangement and synthesizers. They released their debut single "Eyes Of Glass" in 1985 which had huge success in Germany, leading to a deal with ZYX. By 1991 the band consisted of Fabrizio Chiari (synthesizer, electronics, keyboards), Tiziana Wells (vocals, synthesizer) and Angelo Bergamini (synthesizer, piano, arrangement). At the beginning of the year, they recorded their next batch of songs at Prominence Studio in Cremona and A Love Sound Studio in Piacenza. 'Silence' was self released by the band in 1991. The lead track "Silence" was a left-over song by Kirlian Camera recorded in 1985 with vocals by Simona Buja under the alias Lorenza Larini. It was recorded largely using a variety of now-classic Roland, Yamaha, and Oberheim synthesizers. The album displays East Wall's maturity and unique aesthetics, with instrumental pieces reminiscent of Angelo Badalamenti' Twin Peaks score. Tiziana Wells sings with pure emotion, hypnotic at times, upbeat and carefree at others. Frankie Teardrop (of the Wierd party and the Systems of Romance blog) describes this album as 'possibly the closest thing to darkwave freestyle that exists'. We decided to expand the album, releasing it as a deluxe double LP cut louder at 45rpm. An unreleased extended version of "Ice Of Fire" has been included and the bonus track "Intro", found on the DAT tapes Fabrizio Chiari sent us. It is housed in the original jacket, featuring a dramatically lit photograph of the band by Andrea Gambetta. Each copy includes an 11x11 double-sided insert with photos of the band, lyrics, and liner notes by Intergalactic Gary, who's Despair Mix turned us onto to this album.

East Wall was an Italian electronic dark wave band formed by Fabrizio Chiari (ex keyboardist of Kirlian Camera) and Wilma Notari in 1982. After a series of demos and live performances, the duo recruited Angelo Bergamini of Kirlian Camera to help with arrangement and synthesizers. In September 1984 they booked a recording time at Master Studio 33 in Cremona Italy. Working with produced Ray Masola, they recorded their debut single "Eyes Of Glass", which was released on No Comment in early 1985. The equipment set up was a PPG Wave 2, Roland ProMars, Roland Juno 60, Simmons drum, and an upright piano. "Eyes Of Glass" is an outstanding example of 80's italo-disco full of dark, moody atmosphere and depth. Wilma Notari's coy vocals cast a spell on the listener as she weaves a story about lost love and 'bitter tears'. Included here are the original extended 12" mix and instrumental version with mid-song breakdown and dubbed out chorus. Housed in the original jacket featuring a photo of a boy by Pushe 27. Each copy includes a 2-sided postcard with photos of the band, lyrics, and liner notes by Flemming Dalum.

helden platz / 12"

'Helden Platz', a long out of print 12" maxi single from seminal Italian electronic act Kirlian Camera. Keyboardist/vocalist Angelo Bergamini founded the project in Parma in 1979 and named it after an electronic device that photographs the electromagnetic halo around objects and living beings. By 1980, Angelo had recruited singer Simona Buja, keyboardist Fabrizio Chiari, and bassist Mauro Montacchini. Their demo cassette, 'Dawn', attracted the attention of Italian Records, a popular independent label. Over the next few years the band would release their st mini-LP, 'Kirlian Camera', the full length 'It Doesn't Matter, Now' and the singles "Communicate", "Edges", and "Blue Room". The latter was a significant hit, eventually landing them a deal with Virgin Records. By 1987 the line up consisted of Angelo Bergamini on all instruments, Charlie Mallozzi on electronic drums and Simona Buja on vocals. Virgin wanted the band to provide another hit single in order to exploit the success of 'Blue Room', refusing to release the band's less commercial material. In 1987 the band went Lark Studio at Carimate Castle, Italy to record with italo-disco producer Oderso Rubini. Thanks to the insistence of Bergamini, the label agreed to release "Helden Platz", German for "Heroes' Square', in 1987. The song features Kirlian Camera's brand of dark wave, marked by haunting melodies, slow moving synth washes, and orchestral strings. The song features the stark, dramatic vocals of Simona Buja, who sings about the 'blue blood of winter' in a tale of Germany and Austria during World War II. Included here is the extended 12" mix, the 7" edit, plus the original B-side "Burial", an instrumental that evokes a funeral procession soundtrack. It is housed in the original jacket, featuring a photo of a headstone from Zentralfriedhof Cemetery in Vienna. Each copy includes a 2-sided postcard with lyrics and photos of the band.

Λένα Πλάτωνος (Lena Platonos) is a Greek musician, pianist and music composer. One of the pioneers of Greek electronic music, she remains active today. Lena was born in Heraklion, Crete, and grew up in Athens. She began learning how to play the piano at the age of 2 and became a professional pianist before turning 18. Soon afterwards, she received a scholarship to study in the the Berlin and Vienna Academies , where she was exposed to jazz, rock and Middle Eastern music. She returned to Greece in the late 70's and began working with the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation. Released in 1984, 'Μάσκες Ηλίου' ('Sun Masks') was Lena Platonos' 1st record to feature her own words and vocals. All instruments were performed by Lena herself. 'Sun Masks' was inspired by Argentine writer, Julio Cortázar as well as the film 'The Wall' by Pink Floyd. "I began to reverse my thought process, to let melodies fade out, to turn to minimalism, to experiment on my Yamaha C60 synthesizer and a variety of 'boxes' which I used to change the sound of my voice as well as the sound of the synthesizer" says Lena. The album featured experiments with different sounds and a new batch of electronic equipment, such as the legendary Roland TR 808 drum machine. Lena narrates each song in deadpan fashion, skillfully reciting her surreal Greek poetry. Her lyrics deal with the futility of love, the gap of human relationships, consumerist alienation in the bourgeois lifestyle of the 80's. The jacket is an exact replica of the 1984 edition, featuring a photograph of Lena wearing sunglasses or 'sun masks'. Each copy includes a 2-sided 11"x11" insert with lyrics in both Greek with English, and liner notes by Lena.

Bocal 5 were a no-wave art group composed of Doc Pilot (synths, vocals), Zouka Dzaza (bass), Florian Guillou (synths), Mickey Lepron (electronic drums, bass) and Evy Tinguette (lead vocals). The project was born in november 1980 in Tours, France as the brain child of Doc Pilot. Between 1981 & 1986 Bocal 5 recorded one 7" single and a cassette-only album before taking a year off in 1984 to launch X-Ray Pop. Influenced by Erik Satie, Brigitte Bardot, Suicide and Young Marble Giants, they call their music 'minimum naïve new-wave'. 'Musique Electronique' is a 19-track compilation of songs recorded across 1983, most of which have never been released on vinyl before. 16 tracks appeared on the 'From Bocal 5 To X-Ray Pop' album originally released on cassette by Sound of Pig in 1984. Both tracks from their debut 7" originally released in MB5 1984 are included and show a progression in sound as a result of newer recording equipment and techniques. Also present is a song from the tape compilation 'Andreas N°3 L'Animal' released by Fraction Studio in 1984. Armed with a Korg 770, MS-10, Prophet Pro-One, Roland TR-707 and TB-808 they crafted their own brand of quirky synthesized electronic pop. Songs are short, concise and well structured; richly textured, moving at a quick speed with hardly a pause. Evy's pouting, tongue-in-cheek vocals (sung in French) come together for a catchy, sensuous, danceable, eccentric psychedelic ride. This collection shows the group's sense of humor, vitality and carefree playfulness. Each jacket displays a bright neon green collage of photos and ephemera from the band's archives designed by Eloise Leigh that exudes the project's DiY spirit. Each copy includes a 6-page xeroxed booklet with photos, original artwork and press clippings.

zoo / LP

Die Form is a French post-industrial and electronic band formed in 1977-1978. Die Form is the primary project of electronic musician and multimedia artist Philippe Fichot. He began by recording a number of experimental cassette releases in the late 1970s and formed the Bain Total label to release these early cassettes, as well as various side projects such as Krylon Hertz, Camera Obscura, Eva-Johanna Reichstag, Hurt and Fine Automatic. In 1982 Die Form released their debut vinyl album, 'Die Puppe' in a limited edition of 1000 copies. 'Zoo' is a compilation of 10 tracks recorded during the "Die Puppe" sessions from 1980-82. These were the 1st esoteric electronic experiments, often improvised. Underlying themes of eroticism, death, and other 'taboo' subjects become apparent in both the music and the album artwork, which Philippe also produced. The album was recorded with entirely analog equipment, including a Roland MC4 Micro-Composer, TR-808 Rhythm Composer, ARP 2600, and Kawai 60F recorded to a Revox B77 reel to reel tape machine. Songs range from hypnotic, minimalistic proto-IDM to daring experimental sound manipulation. 4 of these songs were featured as a bonus 7" to accompany the 1989 vinyl reissue of "Die Puppe" but remixed for the project. The remaining 6 songs were also remixed and released on CD in 2001. The front cover was designed by Eloise Leigh and features a black and white photograph by Philipe. Each album includes a double sided post card with liner notes and a rare photo of the band.

sandy eyes / 12"

Zwischenfall formed in Belgium in 1982 with Michael Sass (synths), Martin Urban (bass/vocals) and Stephan Kraemer (guitar/drums). They were united by their interest in combining electronic and traditional instruments, which developed the basis for 1982 demo recordings. By chance Patrick Codenys of the Belgian electro pioneers Front 242, heard 2 songs and decided to record a 4-song ep. The 'Heute' ep was released in 1983 after a week of recording in Front 242's private studio under the direction of sound-whiz Daniel B. In 1984 Martin Urban left the band and was replaced by vocalist Iben Larssen and bassist Thomas Kürsten. They recorded their 2nd 12" single, "Sandy Eyes", which contained a remake of their song "Flucht", sung in the English this time. Some fairly revolutionary techniques were used, including the introduction of sampling (with an Emulator I and Ensoniq Mirage), and 'gated reverb', in which the sound of a large reverb room was processed through a Yamaha CS15's envelope follower. This record was originally released in 1984 on both Les Disques du Crépuscule and Fuzz Dance, packaged in 3 different covers. Our reissue ep features 2 bonus tracks from the 1984 recording sessions previously unreleased on vinyl: the saxophone drenched instrumental "Polar Magazine" and street beat dance track "Sacred Time". The record comes housed in a newly designed die-cut jacket by Eloise Leigh, updating the magenta and yellow color scheme of the Fuzz Dance release. Each copy includes a double-sided insert with lyrics, notes, and never seen before photos.

Gianluigi 'Gigi' Farina and Francesco Rago are to be counted among italo-disco's true originators. Operating as a duo under many monikers, they brought us masterpieces such as Wanexa's "The Man From Colours", ‘Lectric Workers "Robot Is Systematic", and Decadance's "On And On". Their sound is propulsive and ethereal in equal measure; dense, psychedelic, and tinged with melancholy. "The Man From Colours" was recorded in Milan in 1982 and released on Discomagic Records the same year. The song's music was composed by Rago and Farina, with lyrics written by Xenia Monneret who was only 16 at the time. Mournful synth pads are buoyed by an 808 groove, while Lyana Galis provides haunting vocals, singing of a man who will bring color to this grey world. "The Man From Colours" was influential on early house and techno music thanks to support from WBMX in Chicago and and WJLB in Detroit. It was later a cornerstone in the 90's Hague electro scene, frequently appearing in Dj sets by I-f and Intergalactic Gary. On the B-side is the instrumental version with extended breaks, drum claps and additional vocoder verses. There is a slight warble in the beginning of each version that was due to the band re-recording multiple takes on the same reel of tape. The record comes housed in a newly designed die-cut jacket by Eloise Leigh, updating the pink and green color scheme of the original Discomagic Records label. Each copy includes a double-sided postcard insert with lyrics, notes, and a never seen before photo from a fashion show.

Nagamatzu were the British duo of Andrew Lagowski (SETI, Legion, Terror Against Terror) on synths, guitar, and programming and Stephen Jarvis (Pure Motorised Instinct, Terraform) on synths and bass. Formed in 1982 after messing around with old tape machines and drum boxes, making numerous contributions to international compilations and erratically releasing their own cassettes. Their name comes from a character in JG Ballard's 'Atrocity Exhibition' and their music reflects his influence. Nagamatzu self-released their debut cassette 'Shatter Days' in 1983 after messing around with old tape machines, drum boxes and effects. 'Above This Noise' is a compilation of 9 songs recorded in the period between the release of 'Sacred Islands Of The Mad' in 1986 and 'Igniting The Corpse' in 1991. It gathers tracks which surfaced on some of the international compilation cassette releases that the band were invited to contribute to in the 80's as well as some previously unreleased songs. The band's working method was for Andrew to 1st record a backing track, usually rhythm, sequence, samples. Then both members would layer more electronics, samples, guitar and bass over the top, recording the whole piece in one take. These instrumentals combine stuttering bass, guitar bursts and funeral keyboards draped over a dragging drum machine beat, calling to mind Clock DVA, early New Order or Cocteau Twins. Their sound is full of complex rhythm patterns and dark electronics. The vinyl comes housed in jacket silver and black designed by Eloise Leigh. Each LP includes a fold out poster with liner notes by Stephen Jarvis and an early gig flyer. Finally rescued from the UK DiY cassette underground and restored, 'Above This Noise' presents 9 Nagamaztu tracks for the 1st time ever on vinyl.

Series-A was the duo of Sam Anderson aka Dj Maestro and Dave Webb (aka Kid Fresh). Sam & Dave both grew up listening to the sounds of the Electrifying Mojo on WJLB in Detroit. They met in 1983 at a Dj gig that they were both hired to play. In 1986, they collaborated on the Nu-Sound II Crew project. After developing a friendship with Juan Atkins, they became hip to the emerging new club sounds that were to become electro and techno. Their subsequent project, Series-A, was named after different car model numbers, but also hints at the evolution of humankind into a new species. In 1987, Series-A recorded the single "Evolution ⁵ Technology" at Spectrum Sounds Studio in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. Their set up was a vocoder, E-mu Emulator III, Roland 909 drum machine, and an Otari 24-Track recorder. They landed a record deal with Satellite Records in Burbank, California, which had been founded by Pete Moore of The Miracles. After pressing 50 promotional copies, the label ran into financial problems, and the record never reached a full release. Taking cues Kraftwerk, Grand Master DST, Grandmaster Flash & Jam Master Jay, Series-A created dark electro beats in an era when sampling appeared to be the future of music. Lyrically the song addresses our species' entry into the technological age. For this ep reissue, the '7" Mix' and 'Dub Mix' are included on the A-side. On the flip is a new remix by prolific Ann Arbor producer JTC, an alias of Tadd Mullinix (aka Dabrye, SK-1, & Charles Manier). JTC speeds up and expands the song to 7 minutes. Drawing on influences from Ron Hardy to Jeff Mills, he drives around suburban techno landscapes while simultaneously launching the listener into deep space. The jacket is specially designed by Eloise Leigh and features a cyborg fossil motif with RGB color band and gradients. Each copy includes a post card with with notes.

Axodry was the duo of Andreas 'Talla 2XLC' Tomalla and Ralf 'Ra/Hen' Henrich formed in Frankfurt, Germany in 1982. The 2 met at City Music record store where Talla 2XLC worked and supplied the local Dj scene with dance 12"s. From 1984 to 1991 they released 6 maxi 12" singles. Both members were leading figures in the European electronic scene during the 80's and 90's, forming bands like Bigod 20, Tribantura, Micro Chip League, Moskwa TV, Pluuto and Robotiko Rejekto. In 1988 they released the maxi 12" single "You" on ZYX Records/Combeat. Influenced by Depeche Mode, Gary Numan and John Foxx, the duo crafted their own brand of industrial, synth-pop and EBM. Their basic set up for recording songs at RaHen's home studio was a Moog Rouge, Roland SH-101, Teisco synthesizer, Linn Drum and Fricke sequencer. Ra/Hen tackles vocal duties and sings about longing for a lost love. Included on this reissue are the 'Beauty & The Beat Mix' and 'Beasty Dub Mix' from the 1988 single. On the flip is the slightly sped up 'Razormaid Remix', performed by Art Maharg and Joseph Watt, that originally appeared on the 'Welcome To The Technodrome' compilation in 1989. nous savons tout / mélodie moderne / 12"

Space Art was the French electronic duo of Dominique Perrier (keyboards, vocoder) and Roger Rizzitelli (drums, percussion). Between 1977 and 1981, they released 3 albums of comsic synth-pop, in which they laid much groundwork for French electronic music to follow. After their 3rd album in 1981, they toured around the world with Jean Michel Jarre in support for his 'Concerts In China' album. Space Art's 3rd single "Nous Savons Tout" was released in 1978 on IF Records. Their sound was similar to Jarre's early analog albums, but with the addition of real drums. Dominique plays an ARP Odyssey, Clavinet, Eminent, and Minimoog, maximizing their warm textures. Roger plays the drums in an intricate fashion, influenced subtly by jazz fusion. "Nous Savons Tout" features an early prototype of the Vocoder, which the band used to create the chorus. On the flip is the slower "Melodie Moderne", an electronic take on progressive 70's rock. Both tracks were recorded at Studio Ferber Paris in June 1978. Like Richard Pinhas/Heldon and Yellow Magic Orchestra, Space Art created their own brand of dark space disco, paving the way for bands like Air and Mellow. The record comes in a sleeve featuring the original cover art of a firefighter crossing a burnt landscape, painted by Gilles Lacombe. Each LP includes a postcard with liner notes by surviving member Dominique Perrier. The sounds here evoke a Parisian noir thriller set in a discotheque circa '78. Steamy & dark, equal parts erotic and existentialist.

eagles in the night / 12"

Dario Dell'Aere is a new-wave musician, producer and singer from Milan, Italy. At the end of the 70's Dario performed in a mime show influenced by the glam cliches of David Bowie. In 1979, he met Victor Life outside a cinema, and began a lifelong collaboration of projects: Diamond Dogs, Ice Eyes and Fockewulf 190. Musically, the duo were inspired by the Human League's 'Reproduction' and John Foxx's 'Metamatic', while they took visual cues from the new romantics Visage and Ultravox. With the Fockewulf 190 moniker, they created their own dark blend of italo-disco and new-wave, and released the hit singles "Gitano" and "Body Heat" in 1984. At the end of 1984, the duo took a break, and Dario went into the studio to record his debut solo single. "Eagles In The Night" was released in 1985 on Market Record, and is one of the most coveted italo-disco 12"s. Clocking in at over 8-minutes, the song features xylophone-esque synth hooks and Dario's powerful, booming vocals. Dario sings of a spirit that flies on high, searching for a partner in true love. are you loving? / 12"

Brand Image is a trio formed in Bergamo, Italy in 1983. Created by the same group of musicians as their previous project Some Bizarre. The line-up is Marino Scarabelli (music, producer), Tiberio 'Tyber' Scarfone (arrangement, producer) and Stefano Brignoli (lyrics) and vocalist Mauro Farina. Originally, Stefano sang the song but his performance was too close to the brand new Some Bizarre single, so they recruited Mauro for distinction. "Are You Loving" was recorded at Regson Studio in Milan in 1983 and released on Il Discotto the same year. Similar in approach to Some Bizarre, the song's music was composed by Marino as lyrics were written by Stefano with sitting on the sofa in the studio. The band created their signature sound using a Mini Moog, Prophet 5, Korg Synthesizer, Linn Drum. Mauro's vocals are warm as he aggressively debates internally going out dancing or staying in and ordering take out. Where "Don't Be Afraid" ”was the trio's 1st experience at songwriting, "Are You Loving"” became a popular hit and gave the group strength and enthusiasm to continue this musical path. Tiberio was a fan of the Italian pop group Pooh” and their song "Non Siamo In Pericolo" ”had a solo break with an electric guitar and background bells that section inspired the guitar and claps solo in "Are You Loving". Enrica Danesi makes a return appearance with her signature call-and-response back up vocals during the chorus. On the B-side is the instrumental version with extended breaks, drum claps and dubbed out bass lines. The vinyl comes housed in an exact replica of the original 1983 edition with bright yellow and magenta line graphics against a black background. Each copy includes a double-side postcard insert with lyrics and notes.

household shocks / LP

16-track compilation of UK DiY/synth/new-wave/post-punk originally released in 1980. The album showcases 9 bands from the thriving post-punk scene in Scunthorpe and the North of England. Operating on a shoestring budget, co-producers Chris Leaning and Paul Singleton (both of One Gang Logic), released 'Household Shocks' on Stark Products, a label they founded in 1979. At almost 50 minutes of music, the album took 4 weeks to produce at the Studio Playground in Lincoln. It was supported heavily by the late Radio 1 DJ John Peel. In july 1980 Paul Singleton and Chris Leaning opened a record shop in Lincolnshire, England. It opened under the name 'All Tomorrow's Parties', but later moved to the city center and was renamed 'Parade'. Through their growing local music scene and the separation of economic classes, their shop became the hangout for the local punk movement. It was there that the idea for 'Household Shocks', a compilation of their friend's bands, was born. Thunderboys offer 3 punky pop blazers and feature Carmel McCourt who who subsequently achieved chart success with her band Carmel. Product Of Reason contribute 3 haunting synthesizer heavy numbers. Sinking Ships supply 2 tracks of off-kilter dubbed out angst. Juveniles provide 2 power pop jams. Mystery Girls supply 1 track of quirky post-punk that recalls The Prats. Defectors, a female fronted quartet featuring COUM Transmissions affiliate Tony Menzies, grant us 1 superb track of somber gothic new-wave. Fault 151 serve a slice of wistful Flying Nun-esque indie pop featuring a 14-year old bassist. Urbantech, a short-lived synth-punk outfit, deliver one delirious track. One Gang Logic contribute 2 metallic synthesizer drenched pieces and close the album with a somber atmosphere. The vinyl comes housed in replica of Chris Leaning's original jacket design, which features a black and white photograph of a doll shocked by a vacuum cleaner. Each LP includes a copy of the double sided 11x11 insert that was included with the original pressing.

gefangene vögel / LP

Lunapark is the trio of Burkhard Ballein, Klaus 'Schlips' Gebauer, Reinhard 'Zoppen' Benisch from Wuppertal, Germany. Formed in 1981 when the boys were dissatisfied with their surrounding musical environment. They packed their instruments and a cassette recorder and set off to create their own brand of Neue Deutsche Welle (NDW 'New German Wave'). Their influences included The Beatles, Colloseum, Roxy Music, Frank Zappa as well as Sex Pistols, Ian Dury & The Blockheads, Blondie and The Cure. 'Gefangene Vögel' ('Prisoner Birds') is their debut album released by Intakt-Records, Stuttgart in 1982. Utilizing a simple set up of guitar, bass, drums, drum-computer, Korg MS-10 and Korg MS-20 they recorded 10 tracks that make up the album. Songs bridge the Belgian-type industrial and cold sounds with NDW quirkiness. In the vein of Sad Lovers and Giants, and Schleimer K they blend post-punk and new-wave music with electronic influences. All songs are sung in German with monotone vocals and epitomized the urban Zeitgeist of the Cold War. The vinyl comes housed in a replica of the original jacket design, which features a drawing of birds on a grid. There are 4 different color versions of the screen printed jacket: blue, yellow, turquoise and here in magenta. Each LP includes a copy of the double sided 11x11 insert that was included with the original pressing with lyrics and photos.

dirty songs / 12"

4-track ep by Swiss musician Carlos Perón, founding member of Yello. Carlos was born in 1952 in Zurich and began collecting music at a young age. Inspired after attending a concert of Karlheinz Stockhausen in the 60's, he began to compose Musique Concrete pieces using a 4-track reel to reel and found sounds. In 1979 Perón founded the trio Yello with musician Boris Blank and vocalist Dieter Meier. Yello released their 1st album in 1980 and the following year Carlos released his 1st solo album 'Impersonator'. In 1983 Carlos left Yello in order to pursue a solo career and released the soundtrack to 'Die Schwarze Spinne' and 1984 his 2nd solo album 'Nothing Is True; Everything Is Permitted'. In 1988, Belgian label LD Records released a 4-song ep of instrumental tracks from 1984 that predated, influenced and became staples in the New Beat scene. 'Dirty Songs' is a collection of songs from Carlos Perón recorded between 1980 and 1986. The recordings were made with the core set up of an ARP 2600, Roland's Drumatix, TB-303 and TR-808. "Nothing Is True; Everything Is Permitted (Instrumental)" recorded in 1984 is a slow burner with dark, gloomy atmospherics, presented here in an extended version with a bonus intro. The song was inspired by William S. Borroughs' 'Naked Lunch' and paints a bleak futuristic landscape. "Breaking In (Instrumental)", from 1984, is a crossover of electronic body music and pitched down Chicago acid house featuring overplayed snares by hand though an Ovomaltine Box. Originally featured on the soundtrack for 'Die Schwarze Spinne', the song is about breaking into a large pharmaceutical company to steal drugs. On the B-side is "A Dirty Song (Instrumental)", originally recorded in 1986 and released by Play It Again Sam in 1988. The song uses one of the earliest Roland SH synthesizers, the SH-1 A, as a solo instrument and is strikingly aggressive with percussive rhythms. "Et" was recorded in 1980 on a 4-track and later and remixed to 8-tracks in 1984 for the 'Frigorex' ep, which is where this extended version comes from. Featuring eerie, cut up vocals and Dadaist lyrics by Isa Nogara atop a proto-techno beat. The jacket features a never before seen black and white photo of Carlos taken in 1988. Each album includes an double-sided postcard featuring the cover art from the 'Frigorex' ep. Prepare to make your own movie to the Swiss John Carpenter soundtrack vibes of Carlos Perón.

orbit ceremony 77 / LP

Lost LP from 1977, rebuilt from original tapes, by the creator of Black Devil Disco Club. The French electronic music pioneer behind Black Devil Disco Club, released 3 seminal library albums in the 70's: 'Suspense' (1975), 'Cosmos 2043' (1977) and 'The Strange World of Bernard Fèvre' (1977). A 4th album called 'Orbit Ceremony', produced just a few months after remained in his home studio and never saw the light; sentenced to almost 40 years in the devil's vault. By chance, while working on the re-issues, Bernard Fèvre recently found the original lost tapes of 'Orbit Ceremony', including the multi-tracks, which he remixed and remastered himself. Spacy moogs, weird clavinet, and cosmic analog drum machines: it's all here. The quirky, cosmic library music found on this long-deleted 70's science-fiction-themed album is full of burbling synths and off-kilter melodies. There's only one man on this planet able to produce such a crazy sound. As soon as you press play you know you've embarked on a special and unique 'back to the future' trip. Don't worry, fasten your seat belt and relax. Captain Fèvre is taking care of everything ;)

Artist : Konstrukcija

untitled / LP

More than a side-project, Konstrukcija stemmed from the reunion of Stropu Jurka (Strops, VSKB, but also the radio show Intervilnis) & Gatis Druvaskalns (Starpliktuve, Celmlauzis) in spring 2011 when the latter returned from a 2-year long stay in the Netherlands. He brought his friend back a Casio MT-40, which he had bought for the modest sum of 5€. They started jamming and within a few days recorded several tracks for which the Casio, a Korg Monotron, an Estradin-230 and a diy noise box were utilized. In the end they came up with a full unreleased album. The texts allude to all their friends who have left Latvia to live abroad, as well as to those who have left forever by jumping from the cable-stayed bridge (Riga). Their sound is very reminiscent of the analogical minimal electronic wave in the vein of early pioneers such as Kraftwerk, El Aviador Dro or Yellow Magic Orchestra to which they added that indescribable Latvian frostbitten atmosphere from a country where the winter temperature may fall to -30º C and winter lasts for half of the year.. That was it officiall.. not until december 2012 when they started playing again in order to get prepared for a set which would be performed 2 months later in Paris, following an invitation from Les Sons Paranormaux. It is then that they very naturally thought of inviting Erlends Paičs (who had already been active within VSKB a few years earlier, most notoriously for a series of live sets programmed and organized by the above-mentioned organization). During the rehearsals of the set they partly covered their older tracks while improving their quality. By then a cozy relationship had been established between LSP and Thierry Müller, and the organization dared the band to once more cover a track by Ruth which had been played by some of the members a few years earlier, and for which the original singer would come on stage during the gig. Watchwords: "Polaroid/Roman/Photo" which has also been included here in its studio version. Back home they played one more set and that was it. That was when LSP and Brouillard Definitif offered them (in 2013) to release their debut album. New tracks were recorded and added to some older ones, this is what is presented here..

Since Minimal Wave released a fine compendium of his early 80's work as Das Ding back in 2009, Danny Bosten has become something of a cult artist. His latest missive on the re-born Tear Apart Tapes label is a tasty 7" featuring 2 new, all-analogue jams in his distinctive style. The title track is a boisterous and cheerily melodious affair, sitting somewhere between leftfield instrumental synth-pop and glistening italo-disco. Flipside "16 (New Mix)" is slower and more contemplative. It features bold electro bass, hip-hop tempo drum machine percussion, drowsy chords and woozy synthesizer melodies. It's the kind of analogue electronica that boasts a timeless quality, despite its contemporary construction.

The art of minimalism and reduction is one of the challenging difficulties in music making. Only a select group of artists pulled it off to create strong timeless minimal pieces that are still relevant in todays music environment. Think Jeff Mills, Rob Hood, Terrence Dixon, Daniel Bell, Ectomorph, BC, Mika Vainio... to just name a few. The art of reduction is like fine Italian food; Good basics and limited ingredients. Seasoning is mostly used to cover up bad taste. Pamétex is one of those cats that made music without the 'seasoning' of todays techniques. In the surprisingly short productive period (around 2000 when he co-produced with I-f in the Murdercapital heydays), he just wrote a bunch of tracks on a rhythm box, synth and a sequencer recorded straight to tape. What came out is now known in inner circles as highlights from electro's 2nd wave. Respected and favourited by lots of artists and serious music collectors. Here are the last pieces of the puzzle. Lost tracks from the dusty PMTX vaults. Recovered from the original tapes by Chris Callahan. Minimalism from a true musical mastermind !

babes of the 80s / 12"

It has been a year since Lebanon Hanover showed us a place 'Besides The Abyss', by releasing on Fabrika their brilliant 4th studio album. As the withdrawal symptoms we feel due to our addiction to this band started to threaten our existence, they return to offer us once again their heart & soul in the form of a 12" maxi-single. Feelings close to misanthropy, disappointment, lack of communication and trust in social and personal relationships are the ingredients of this record, which combined with the most wonderful melodies and the heavenly voices of Larissa and William, evoke a unique tenderness that overshadows the sadness, a power that takes us by the hand and leads us to the dancefloor. And this is the magic power of Lebanon Hanover, a band with a strong message towards/against society, that makes us want to dance to its melancholy. 'The Babes Of The 80s' change both their musical and aesthetical style and LH surprise us once again by showing us a new aspect of their artistic creation. An ideal image of the bands elegance in full color, expressed by the wonderful cover picture of Thomas Amras and the descent to the daily routine on the back cover, are two strongly opposite components, which perfectly visualize the music. And the music itself comes with a unique totally synthesized power towards us, full of emotion, without any bass and guitar parts. And the surprise won't stop. 2 exceptional collaborations are to be found on this record. 2 great artists are remixing the self-titled track offering us another point of view and even more acoustic pleasure. She past away, a beloved band of the Fabrika family, join for the 1st time forces with Lebanon Hanover, in a dark, intimate remix of the "Babes". But also the cult italo-synth artist Tobias Bernstrup contributes with a sensual and extremely danceable mix to this release..

finitudes / LP

4 years after 'L'Inconfort Nécessaire', released on esoteric-tronic label Treue Um Treue, here is the 2nd LP of this one man+machines project driven by Dasz (also involved in Dolina and Illustration Sonore). It's a collaboration between the prolific post-punk label Danger Records & Spielzeug Muzak, propagators of dirty sounds over the years. As expected, this album brings another bunch of tormented urban electronic songs. Still oscillating between aerial cold waves and warm intimist electro darkness, between organic analog (un)purity and bad-fidelity digital fragility, between urgency and detachment.. Again, we are invited to a lame dance on pendulum-like sequences, when city sleeps.. The words used are simple. Sung in different languages, they're describing slices of frustrated lives, post-modern diseases and common anguish, sometimes with a touch of black humour, to underline the absurdity of it all. Finiteness in its various definitions is the link between the songs. But it has nothing to do with our apocalyptic times.. Or has it ?

original soundtrack / LP

Official reissue of the extremely hard to find 'Original Soundtrack' album by Gary Blanchard. Less than 500 copies of this analog keyboard solo effort were originally pressed, and less than 200 still exist. The album was written, produced and distributed in Gary's hometown Baltimore between 1986 & 1987. Gary Blanchard began playing guitar in the late 60's and soon became a regular on Baltimore's folk circuit. Then on April 19 1986, Gary came home from a peace benefit show, turned on the TV, and saw Laurie Anderson on Saturday Night Live. After 20 years, Gary decided he wanted to do something different. He bought a $100 Yamaha PSR keyboard, complete with autochord and drum machine, and began to experiment with writing in new ways. Rather than having conventional song structure, the music was more open. The words were sometimes spoken, and sometimes sung. Gary also began writing poems and vignettes to include in his performances. While these songs were not as overtly political as his folk-style songs, they commented on life in the 80's with a uniquely cynical Baltimore view. (Many thought Gary was influenced by Baltimore filmmaker John Waters, especially given Gary's love of pink flamingos, but Waters was not an influence on the music.) Gary began to search out other performers to help him bring this material to the stage; at the same time he started working with producer Erik Steensen to create a recording of the music along with some of the spoken word pieces. The album 'Original Soundtrack' was released about the time Gary did his 1st performance with The Generic Art Ensemble. Since the program was called, generically, SHOW, Gary decided to name the soundtrack album, 'Original Soundtrack'. The very 1st performance at Baltimore's 8x10 Club was a 2 person program with dancer Joan Mosca. Soon the Ensemble also featured Cynthia Gaver on keyboard, Stephanie Waters, a talented sculptor, as a performer and 2nd dancer, and Renee Zorn, who joined right before the ultimate performance of SHOW as sound technician; she later worked as a performer with Gary on the programs 'Experiments In Low Budget Technology' and 'Natural State'. After a break from performing while getting belated college degrees, Gary returned to performing in the early 21st century, back to the singer/songwriter style of his past. Gary feels that the 'Generic Art Ensemble/Original Soundtrack' days gave him an ability to open up his writing. His recent albums feature guitar, but many songs do have keyboards added to give them a fuller, less folky sound. This reissue includes numbered insert with complete biography and track-by-track notes by Gary Blanchard himself. Front cover artwork hand pasted on sleeve..

We all have been dancing for some time now to this 2nd release by mid-80's West Yorkshire industrial disco act Son Of Sam, an album consisting of all the instrumental tracks on the very rare cassette released by Final Image in 1985, 'The Collapse Of Ancient Funk' (1984-85 A.D.). Among others, you will find here for the 1st time ever on vinyl gems such as the futuristic 1985 remix of "Not A Second Wasted", inspired by Holger Czukay's experimentalism, and the early-electro sounding hit "Playground", along with the latest offering from the band, the previously unreleased track "You Got Me". Limited to 350 copies with hand stamped numbered insert and MP3 download code..

maquinismo operatorio 1984-1986 / LP

Fernando Gallego is not a music band which we can define as 'common', on the contrary. This group from Burriana, successor of Funeraria Vergara, started its history back in the early 1984 (after Juan Luis Montoliu left), and it ended in 1986 with the emergence of the project Decúbito Supino. Their usage of some synthesizers, amongst other gadgets, keyboards and large petrol cans, was the distinctive feature as regards to their predecessor band; such an echo defined a much more industrial and electronic sound, closer to early EBM. As it happened with Funeraria Vergara, the disconnection or isolation towards something which might be classified as 'local scene' or similarity, which was the most common thing, given the circumstances.. Castellón, in those times, did not have many ways to let people know his music, and even less that one made by other groups similar to FG, either in style or musically speaking. This fact helped to define a unique and original identity, even more if possible, taking into account the personality and character of each of its members. F.G. didn't get to publish anything at all until 2012, when one of his songs (Almuerzo Desnudo) appeared in the compilation 'Non Plus Ultra 1980-1987'. Edition of 300 copies with DIN A3-sized poster printed double sided and free download code with exclusive digital bonus track..
