Artist : Alexander Robotnick
Label : Medical Records LLC
ce n'est qu'un début / LP
Synth-pop albums don't come any better than Alexander Robotnick's 1984 classic "Ce N'est Q'un Début". Reissued for the class of 2010 on blue vinyl in a hand numbered edition of 500 copies for the world, it contains seminal, hugely influential disco hits like "Problemes d'Amour" and the sublime "Dance Boy Dance", plus the killer electro of "Hola Macci Kola", tracks which have influenced practically anyone involved with electronic dance music over the last 25 years. Aside from a couple of cheeky bootlegs it's not been available in this sort of quality pressing for a very long time and truly deserves the status of Essential !!

Artist : Aroma Di Amore
Label : OnderStroom Records
ongehoord / LP
Aroma Di Amore returns on vinyl. 10 previously unreleased tracks on a dark red LP. Elvis Peeters, Fred Angst & Lo Meulen have selected 9 tracks from their archives and added one new song. "Hartslag" was recorded at Trixx in February 2010 and is a cover of "Heartbeat" by the post-punk band Wire. Most of the unreleased tracks ("Snoep Voor Jou", "Bewegende Beelden",..) were recorded during rehearsels and are excellent examples of their potential as new wave band & songcrafters. There are also some alternate version of well-known Aroma songs on "Ongehoord". The track "Moeder Gaat Neer" is the version they played on the Rock Rally competition way before it was released on "De Sfeer Van Grote Dagen". Comes with a doublesided insert & limited to 550 copies...

Artist : Boytronic
Label : Mercury
you (extended version) / 12"
Originally founded by accident in 1983 by Holger Wobker and Peter Sawatzki in Hamburg, Germany. The original band name was Kapitän Sehnsucht (Captain Desire). The band intended to write and play heartjerking and melancholic electro-pop songs, sung in german. They already where known in certain scenes in Germany. Also some producers showed interest, but it was a difficult time, cause the new German wave had his best time behind and it wasn't so clever to sing in German anymore. So they went to a studio in Hamburg and recorded a track in English. It was a spontanious descision and more for fun. Then they became Boytronic. They recorded it 3 times, cause they weren't pleased with the results. When they finished they hadn't exactly a plan what to do with it. They gave it to some record companies and Mercury Records decided to give it a try. In the beginning the record didn't do so well. Apart from some clubs who played it every night. But then some miracle happened and for the first time, luck was on their side. For some reason Kim Wilde cancelled the famous Formula One Show (Germanys Top of The Pops), and Boytronic took place for her. It was a srange performance, and the boys where a little embarrassed to watch it a few days later. But the record was an instant hit. "You" (taken from their First Album »The working Model« went top ten in Germany and many european countries. Classic..!

Artist : Current 93
Label : Durtro / Jnana Records
black ships ate the sky / 2x12"
Import double vinyl lp pressing of the 2006 album from the experimental collective headed by David Tibet (the band's only constant member). Along with Coil and Nurse With Wound, Current 93 have managed to stay ahead of any musical trends by remaining outside of them. Musically the most beautiful Current 93 album since "Thunder Perfect Mind", in lyrical atmosphere "Black Ships" is closer to "Lucifer Over London". The lyrics are a constant flow of shifting images, and at one point it even sounds like Tibet is getting political for perhaps the first time. This change from his usual demeanor makes a far more convincing attack on corruption than that of some always-angry punk band... but the feeling of impending apocalypse predominates, as usual !

Artist : Deutsche Wertarbeit
Label : Medical Records LLC
untitled / LP
Another superb reissue from Seattle's Medical Records, plucking Dorothea Raukes' 1981 album "Deutsche Wertarbeit" from krautrock obscurity and resissuing it on red vinyl in a limited run of 500 copies. Dorothea was in a tiny minority of German frauleins to work in krautrock circles, 1st with her Düsseldorf band Streetmark (she recorded 4 albums as their lead singerin between '76-'81) and later as a solo artist for Sky Records. She's responsible for all all the sounds on "Deutsche Wertarbeit", finding an endearing blend of sensibilities, from the rhythm driven pop of the NDW to the spacey textures and ambience of Klaus Schulze. Her canny melodic character shines through cheeseball keys of "Guten Abend, Leute", but doesn't shy away from darker tones like with "Unter Tage". Best of all is he proto-tranz glide of "Auf Engelsflügeln", which is pretty much worth the cost of entry alone, while the electric grey drama of "Intercity Rheingold" and "Der Gross Atem" seal the deal. Really feeling this..!

Artist : Dive
Label : Pflichtkauf
lies in your eyes / 12"
Rejoice all ye lovers of Dive, Dirk Ivens is back with another incisive sliver of spite. Dirk works with long time co-conspirator Eric Van Wontergrem of Insekt and Monolith fame on this one. This time around, Dirk has opted to go back to the sound of his earlier releases and it shows. Only this time around, he's attempting to re-create the disemboweled, manic schizophrenia that he achieved years ago with Marc Verhaeghen in the Klinik. In summation, this is no step forward but it is an enjoyably dark and demented 5-song ep limited to 600 copies; a totally assumed filiation for label Pflichtkauf, who organise the Machinenfest-ival..

Artist : Experimental Products

Artist : Federico Leocata
Label : WéMè Records
perfido incanto / 12"
Italian audio/visual artist Federico Leocata, born in 1987, releases here his 1st ep on WéMè in the WeMe313 series. Inspired and sponsored by Heinrich Mueller (aka Arpanet, Der Zyklus, Dopplereffekt), he creates an uncluttered and cold electro, totally honest and whole-hearted, flawless. Each song has a well defined role in the structure, leaning on a square rhythm, opppresive bass, frightening tunes, giving a futuristic and fantastic music as a result. This first record suggests a prolific future for this young artist. Tip !

Artist : La Chatte
Label : Born Bad
bastet / 7"
The 3-headed musical creature La Chatte was born in 2003 in Paris, formed by Vava Dudu, a pluridisciplinary artist, Stéphane Argillet aka Stereovoid, visual and sound artist member of the French collaborative France Fiction, and Nikolu, a polymorphous musician. Their music, a kind of post-punk electro-zouk, is ryhthmic, dark, distorted, strident and chocolate-flavored. Renowned for their head blowing performances, the band has remained so far really discrete with its discography focussing on live collaborations with the likes of vivid astro focus or Voin de Voin for instance, crossing roads all over Europe.. Strange & Nice !

Artist : The Neon Judgement
Label : Dark Entries
early tapes / LP
Dark Entries has dug deep into the early days of the Belgian cassette scene to release 2 tapes by The Neon Judgment in the form of a vinyl lp for the 1st time ever ! These pioneers of underground electronic music hail from the small town of Leuven near Brussels, and gave birth to the new-beat and EBM scenes worldwide in 1981-82 with the release of their 1st 2 cassettes–neatly compiled here as "Early Tapes". Always a consistent duo of Dirk Da Davo (synthesizers, vocals) and TB Frank (guitar, drum machine, vocals), The Neon Judgment worked in a parallel world alongside Suicide, Cabaret Voltaire.. Arriving just in time to celebrate The Neon Judgment’s 30th anniversary, "Early Tapes" showcases the band’s brash and seedy lyrics, with raw synth stabs and repetitive drum machine beats adding to this rhythmic discourse. The result is a combination of lo-fi technology and emotional sincerity to create a sound both warm yet alienating that has stood the test of time and 30 years later, still evokes the same magic. The 10 songs on this lp were remastered from the original cassette masters resulting in a cohesive, gritty, maniacal dance program that sounds more relevant today than ever. Each sleeve is hand numbered in a limited edition of 500 copies.. Grab it while you can ;)

Artist : Those Attractive Magnets
Label : Dark Entries
electromagnetic pulse / LP
Dark Entries celebrates its 1 year anniversary with this beautiful release. Those Attractive Magnets were created early 1980 in a town called Tamworth as a vehicle for Rikk Quay (keyboards) and Andy Baldwin (vocals). They self-released a super limited cassette ep, "Pictures On The Wall" in 1980 and the "Nightlife / Love Chimes" 7″ in 1983 and appeared on a futurist music compilation lp, "Synthetic Romance" in 1982. Their music travels beyond copycat synth-pop bands of the time into electronic realms of the 80's underground scene. There are some obvious parallels of the time (you can hear the commercial strains of The Human League, Soft Cell and Kraftwerk at times), but the band never wholly embraced commercialism as these tracks reveal. Although their sound takes a cue from the post-punk and early new romantic scenes, it still remains one step ahead in a unique futuristic world full of delicious dance beats ! "Electromagnetic Pulse" is the 1st ever compilation of a number of tapes produced during their 3 creative and prolific years of song writing, 1980-1983. Limited to 500 hand-numbered copies with poster & insert of lyrics, photos and liner notes. Simply Essential ;)
