Artist : The Other People Place feat Mystic Tribe AI

Label : Clone Aqualung Series

sunday night live at the laptop cafe / 12"

One of the 2 The Other People Place releases (the Warp full length and this 12"). Drexciyan involvement in this classic release is obvious. One of the deepest and intense tracks with such a warm positive vibe. Flipside contains a track by Mystic Tribe (not very mystical of course for those who know the history of Detroit techno. Unique track from a unique project... and there are not many projects with Tribe in its name. Their release on Retroactive is one Detroit techno collector items). One of those records that get you through the day. Classic!!! Re-issue on the Clone Aqualung Series with new artwork.

intergalactic communicationz ep

Artist : Lake Haze

Label : Creme Organization

intergalactic communicationz ep / 12"

Following his 'Natural Insight' ep earlier in the year comes 'Intergalactic Communicationz', 4 more fresh tracks of acid, techno and electro that is brilliantly evocative. The Portuguese artist known as Goncalo Salgado also please son labels like Unknown to the Unknown and is a real hardware master. "At The Gates Ov Futron" is a turbulent lack track with zipping acid and a cacophony of percussion that is visceral as well as cinematic. "Drexciyan Aquarium" is, as the name suggest, an aqueous electro track that slithers and slides through an expansive underwater world. "Poseidon's Dream" then offers a more rugged electro groove that is backed by heavenly pads and a real sense of loss in the synths. Last of all, "Intergalactic Communication" closes out this far travelling and intergalactic ep with a sci-fi deep house track that is filled with light, 909s and a sense that the end of the world is coming.

mindstorms ep

10.39€

Artist : Dj Overdose

Label : Craigie Knowes

mindstorms ep / 12"

From his debut in production at the turn of the new millennium onto his most recent deeds on the likes of Ron Morelli's L.I.E.S., Dj Overdose (aka Jeroen Warmenhoven) has remained true to the sound legacy of the underground Dutch scene and its flagship imprints Bunker, Crème and Viewlexx - carving out a unique and consistently inspired body of work that keeps giving, one release after the other. Back on Glasgow-based Craigie Knowes, the Dutch producer steps up with the aptly-named 'Mindstorms' ep to dish out a masterclass in spacewalking electronics and Detroit-imbued electro grooves. This one has received huge praise in reviews from Les Yeux Orange and Inverted Audio, with the record also being tipped by Mixmag's electro writers and XLR8R magazine's Rebecca.

the styx swamp

Artist : Heinrich Dressel

Label : Barba Records

the styx swamp / 12"

Roman producer (and a force behind MinimalRome label) Valerio Lombardozzi known as Heinrich Dressel returns to Barba with a 2nd release titled 'The Styx Swamp'. Heinrich has a unique way of combining classic techno and electro sounds with elements from the beloved Drexciyan universe and John Carpenter leitmotifs, and making them come together in a manner that both moves your body and pushes your mind beyond the point of awareness. As with the previous record, 'Lurking Underwater', here he pulls off the move with the same efficiency and without sounding like he's repeating himself. "Gray Slope", "Sailing The Nether Waterways" and "The Styx Swamp" are all quite moody and deep, rich with sound and thick with vibe. However, the tracks feel equally at home in 4 am techno situation and a heady afterhours affair. He truly is a master of crafting hybrids whose influences get so flawlessly embedded that it's hard to point them out. If that's not enough, 'The Styx Swamp' got a treatment by Nigel Rogers (aka Perseus Traxx), a multi-faceted producer and a mighty live act performer. Nigel stayed respectful to the original but made the original's bouncy groove into something more direct and reduced, while retaining the same feel conditioned by lead synth's hypnotic quality. We're known to give a little bit of extra love to our releases so (as all before) this one's pressed onto a heavy duty 180gr vinyl and beautifully packaged in an original artwork by EmaEmaEma.

Their music balances on the edge of avant-garde electronics and flirts with acid pop in dreamy soundscapes, with an analogue synth sound and beautiful vocals in Japanese and English. Or, in their own words, a pitch-dark, filth-ridden tour de force into the worlds of acid house and electro...

Electronic Emergencies is proud to introduce Ceci N'Est Pas, a synth-wave project from New York consisting of Nico Nightingale, Pierre Klein & Jorge Socarras. Nico Nightingale is the man behind Neud Photo and earlier worked with Pierre Klein as Neud. Jorge Socarras was singer with synth maestro Patrick Cowley in the 70's duo 'Catholic', and with 80's cult band Indoor Life. Together, they started Ceci N'Est Pas in 2014, and this 7" 'The Last Time' is their 1st release. The title track on the A-side is an irrestisibly melancholic and romantic synth-wave pop song, while B-side "The Stranger" has a mysterious and yearning feel.

Nico Nightingale, aka Neud Photo, is no stranger to collaborations. The New Yorker's latest sees him teaming up with Cristiano F. Grimaldi to form INTRZN, a partnership meshing a freestyle approach to melodies with cold rhythms. Their 'Zone' quartet is a twilight of fluctuating moods. Percussion is bare, allowing bright bars to shine and darker moments to fester. Music which in one breath is elated and uplifting and, the next, dejected and downtrodden.

die kinder aus dem park

Artist : Bionda E Lupo

Label : Charlois

die kinder aus dem park / 12"

Bionda E Lupo are like little you'll have heard before, a boy/girl band like no other. Synth-wave is fed a line of modern alienation, delusory disco to a disdainful drum beat, house emptied and ridiculed. Rhythms are stark, melodies are as mechanical as the lyrics. "Zug Der Vogel" is sparse, vocals intertwine in an empty embrace whilst bars sparkle. "Twoi Glasza" is more playful. Bright words shimmer against sweeping strings. The past is parodied across the ep but nowhere more so than in "Die Kinder Aus Dem Park". A former classic dug out before being peppered by machine gun percussion. The stilted rhyme of "Eckstein" closes, a ballad of bittersweet images and lost hopes.

Artist : Quadratschulz

Label : Shipwrec

ww303 / 2x12"

Quadratschulz delivers his debut album 'WW303'. 10 tracks make up this vision, a vision of lazers, pulsing neon and gleaming chrome. Arcade game memories. Curls of acid. Electrofunk vocals. Synth-wave chic. And even some past greats. All are lovingly folded together in this rich and diverse collection. Styles are juxtaposed. 303 bars throb and strings soar in the lilting "Der Rasende Roland" whereas "Robotic Dancer" struts to a future-world funk. Quadratschulz sculpts his sound with a wonderfully warm and autumnal quality, as in the cascading synth showers of "Ferrofluid." Yet there are colder moments, the frigid flows of "Kran" sprouting into the chilly house tones of "Piloten", a tribute to the groundbreaking LFO is also included. Bleep festooned chicanery is the offering as "Ring The Bell" takes you back to the infamous warehouse parties of 90's Britain. And if that weren't enough, the 2xLP also comes with downloads for some cracking remixes by DMX Krew, Andreas Gehm, Kettel, Chris Moss Acid and Posthuman to name but a few. A wide angle view of Quadratschulz's unique sound.

presents h-world: adapted gills / 12"

1997: 'Drexciya don't have phone. They're too busy to do your remix'. Mad Mike's response was short and to the point, enough to put off some; but not Vincent Koreman. Addicted from an early age, the Dutch producer dug deeper and deeper into the mythology and mystery of James Stinson & Gerald Donald. The sounds, images and ideas conjured up by the Detroit electro duo pulled Koreman in, his fascination growing ever more intense as the underwater dwellers sonically prospered. Fast forward 20 years and that fascination has not diluted one drop, in fact the aquatic dream of the wavejumpers is the inspiration for 'Recolonization'. These tracks "would have never had existed", says Koreman, "if it wasn't for Stinson & Donald creating that great, energetic, abstract electronic music and coupled it with an original vision on the African diaspora, art and culture". This music is an homage to the enigma of Drexciya, a tribute to the machine marine men who pioneered electro and a vision. Drvg Cvltvre continues that vision, one of "an underwater race" that has reconquered Earth, overcoming "big business, corporate greed and water pollution" to reclaim the surface from man. Forget mankind. Our time is over, 'Recolonization' is here !!

'Aquamarine Puzzle' marks a new step in the sound of Luxus Varta. 6 paths are etched for this journey into time, space and the machine. A spectrum of sound is allowed to roam, to wander into strange worlds of galvanised synthlines, serrating snares and soulful strings. The 12" is perfectly balanced, astral melodies countered by crisp and precise rhythms, distant harmonies tethered to absorbing bass. A renewed partnership with machinist in arms Paris The Black FU of Detroit Grand Pubahs is formed for the mechanical dreamscape that is "Globb". A complex and utterly compelling encounter with the Luxus Varta nebula.

bodypop ep / 12"

It seemed like Neo Ouija, a Norfolk based IDM imprint, had closed up shop. 4 years of silence suggested that founder Lee Norris, aka Metamatics, had decided to call it a day. But looks can be deceiving. 2016 saw the boss release a CD album of fluid acid, squelching electro and heartfelt electronics. Shipwrec are now bringing 4 choice cuts from 'Bodypop' to the vinyl faithful. Proudly sitting on the "difficult to define" shelf, Norris seamlessly shifts from frigid winter moods to warming autumnal sunshine. Oldschool sounds are rewired, softened by delicate keys and steady beats. Machine music morphs into organic matter. Acid coils, echoed bleeps and clicks grow and blossom into vivid audio vistas with Metamatics, once again, proving his musical mastery..

The chilling atmospherics of "Body Container" meet the needle before an electro iciness takes hold. Spiking snares and echoed radiowaves orbit the moody "Walk In", that same frosted futurism central to "Level Above Human". Telkhin melts man and machine, giving the computer age a humanoid form. Processors whirr in the bassy bleeps and residues of "Brithomber" before the final statement. Leaving the human world behind "Flight 19" is a fast and future funk driven piece of 2050 music. could you find your analog mind? / LP

Can you believe that in former Yugoslavia existed some people who were making edits and remixes without using MIDI or PC? Can you believe these same people were making their original synth-pop stuff under the influence of Yellow Magic Orchestra and Logic System? Yes, it is true. These were Zoran Jevtic and Zoran Vracevic, the pioneers of electronic music in former Yugoslavia. With groups Šizike and The Master Scratch Band they brought minimal electronic and breakbeat to their former country. However, with their original band from 1981 called Data they created the most thrilling electronic. You can find their finest works in 'Could You Find Your Analog Mind?' issued by Belgrade's Discom label. It is an LP compilation with 12 previously unreleased tracks made between 1981 & 1984. It contains the 1st ever remixes made in former Yugoslavia and obscure synth-pop made under the influence of Japanese scene ! Transparent blue vinyl, limited to 500 copies; 80's cover design, list of equipment.. Analog addicts and crate diggers don't miss this beauty!

With the staccato surge and somber vocalizing of DAF, the distorted synthetic soundscapes of Dirk Ivens' eeriest work, and the industrial strength of The Young Gods, Martial Canterel's earliest outings are a bleak intellectual exercise in the dark and danceable. His music creates a cold atmosphere, and has an ominous melancholy feel to it. The emotional, and sometimes dark feel of the album is everything electronic new wave music should be. It's futuristic, robotic, and at the same time, nostalgic. Essential recordings by the minimal synth master of our age. Deluxe edition of 500 copies.

in silence

Artist : Fra Lippo Lippi

in silence / LP

Reissue of 'In Silence' the gloomy 1981 debut LP from this Norwegian gothic post-punk band founded in 1978. Band members were Rune Kristoffersen (guitar, bass, keyboards, piano), Per Oystein Sorensen (vocals, synthesizer, keyboards) and Morten Sjoberg (drums, keyboards). Their sound was heavily influenced by bands such as Joy Division and The Cure. In 1981 the band recorded and released 'In Silence', a hard to grasp, dark album with ominous bass lines, death-march percussion, pensive keyboards, and sinister, indecipherable vocals. The band had installed a semi-professional 4-track recording studio in a small basement. The recording of the album started in june 1981 and was not completed until 4 months later. Rune Kristoffersen: "It took a long time. Our compositions were based on the drums and the bass, which we coloured with guitars, voices and keyboards. The sound was completely natural, both concrete and abstract". On the record it was difficult to hear the vocals, as it was mixed far behind the instruments. So it was made impossible to understand the lyrics. 'In Silence' has a more unrefined sound and should have any fan of Joy Division wishing they'd heard of this band sooner. If I were to review Closer or Unknown Pleasures today, they'd obviously receive 5/5. Therefore, since Fra Lippo Lippi is so strangely similar, and 'In Silence' is almost like having a new Joy Division/New Order album, I'd be hard pressed to give it a anything less than a near perfect score. Find out for yourself what you've missed out on for the past 20 years. Wow! Released in an edition of 500.

fact & fiction / LP

Tranquil Eyes is a Dutch minimal synth band formed in 1982. Lex Grauwen and Paul Oosterbaan had worked together for about 8 years before they formed the band. They decided to turn their back to stage performances and started experimenting with home-taping. Using an array of electronics, they recorded a great amount of songs and made a fine selection on Walks. Their 1st and only release. Today, after digging into the archives, a lot of restoring, recording & re-mastering, there's 'Fact & Fiction'. The album is an extension to the "Walks" album both in genre and in spirit. Comprising a selection of lost tracks, compilation only releases, unreleased songs and even 2 newly recorded songs, 'Fact & Fiction' gives a great view on the bands musical abilities & influences over the years. For fans of League Of Nations, Oppenheimer Analysis and Ensemble Pittoresque. Poignant & exciting synthwave songs. Drenched in an eternal 80's feel, well crafted & complete.

progress through research / 7"

2 minimal synth-pop pearls 1st released on the compilation 'Walkin' After Midnight' in 1982. They're in the same vein as early 80's singles by Carol (Breakdown) and Rive Gauche (Friends Are Friends). Both tracks on the 7" are a delightful proof of the lively and creative music scene in Brussels during the early 80's, supported by labels such as Factory Benelux and Les Disques Crépuscule and the famous venue Plan K. Occidental White was founded at same time as Kaa Antilope, the extraordinary new wave band founded by Bernard Vranckx and Frédéric Walheer. Bernadette was the additional member and took care of the vocal part. The idea was to do 'pop' songs inspired by occidental white culture, which was the opposite to Kaa Antilope which was more focused on outside inspiration. Edition of 300 copies !

prototech

Artist : Hypnobeat

Label : Dark Entries

prototech / 2x12"

Dark Entries & Serendip Lab have teamed up to release 'Prototech', the 1st vinyl retrospective by German electronic trio Hypnobeat, recorded 1984-86. James Dean Brown and Pietro Insipido formed Hypnobeat in 1983, but it was the addition of Victor Sol only a few months later that found the project reaching, as Brown puts it, "the desired level of technical sophistication". In time, Tobias Freund also lent his talents (and equipment) to this loose-fit sonic scheme, where the protagonists sought a new, electronic manifestation of mankind's tribal music roots. 2 cassette releases surfaced–1985's 'Huggables' and 'Specials/Spatials' the following year. By this point the Frankfurt-based group had already explored fiercely mechanical creative expression through various configurations of hardware and personnel, revolving around core ingredients such as the TR-808, TB-303 and MC-202. The project lived on in spirit as Brown activated Narcotic Syntax in the 90's. While a more modern, digital concern, rooted in the Perlon label family, NS still channeled the Hypnobeat concept of a 'new tribalism', not least on their 'Provocative Percussion' double 12" released in 2006. For all the punky veneer, there are instances where these tracks reach staggering levels of sophistication, not least on "Slash! Buffalo Eats Brass" with its intricately programmed 303 lines and nimble beats that sound a far cry from most machine music made in 1986. Prescient "Can God Rewind?" is also dazzling in the complexity of its percussion and the richness of its synth lines in C as they throb out a bastardised version of acidic disco straight out of the rhythm collider. Elsewhere, some tracks are more primal in their execution. Visceral opening track "The Arumbaya Fetish" was a cathartic venting of Brown's least favourite sound on the 808, the iconic cowbell, while the astounding proto-acid miniature "Moon Jump" places limber 303 lead lines in a hail of thunderstruck patterns. "Kilian" has a stripped down quality that speaks more to the industrial era that Hypnobeat was conceived in, and "Mission In Congo" is a raw, reverb-soaked drum workout that captures the percussive-obsessive nature of Hypnobeat perfectly. 6 of the 7 tracks selected on this collection were primarily powered by two 808s. "I am amazed that the release sounds like we really had a plan back then.." states Brown, but this accidental magic is in fact the raison d'être of Hypnobeat. They weren't the only ones prefiguring the next big revolutions in electronic music in the mid 80's, but there certainly weren't many artists stumbling across modes of expression that sound so relevant today. Housed in a jacket featuring cave engravings by Pietro Insipido of an archer and animal printed in a wallpaper pattern style designed by Eloise Leigh. Each copy includes an transparent insert of an x-ray photograph from 1984 of Romulus Cœurque holding the circuit board of a BOSS DR-55 rhythm machine.

pendulum / LP

Sumerian Fleet is a trio formed by Dutch producers Alden Tyrell and Mr Pauli, joined by Zarkoff after their 2010 debut ep. Their 2nd ep came out in 2012 followed by their debut album 'Just Pressure' on Dark Entries in 2014. Sumerian Fleet have returned to release their sophomore LP 'Pendulum' of all new material as well as a remixed version of "This Game Has No Name" from Zarkoff's other band, FFFC. 'Pendulum' contains 80's dark wave/EBM inspired tracks with an industrial tinge. The band cites inspiration from musical acts Fad Gadget, Front 242, Bauhaus and Sisters of Mercy. Literary references come from Poe's 'The Pit And The Pendulum', Pelevin's 'Generation P' and 'Life Of Bugs', as well as classic cyberpunk like Gibson's 'Sprawl' trilogy. Sumerian Fleet deliver 8 songs of vintage dark electro with a gothic tinge and a touch of bass guitar. The album's been put together in a way that the listener can connect the dots, create a narrative, and become immersed in this attitude that the band's trying to convey, such as Vigny's idea of accepting despair: "A calm despair, without angry convulsions or reproaches directed at heaven, is the essence of wisdom". All songs were initially recorded at Mr Pauli's studio in Den Haag, with overdubs and additional recordings at Zarkoff's Sensorium studio in Croatia, and then final mix downs at Alden Tyrell's studio in Rotterdam. Each LP is packaged in a copper foil stamped jacket designed by Eloise Leigh, with abstract squares in varied rhythmic repetitions to indicate motion, and included a double sided 10"x10" insert with lyrics and notes.

untitled / 12"

Keine Ahnung was a quartet from Wörth am Rhein, Germany formed in 1980. The original line up was Rolf Schmuck, Franz H. Rodenkirchen, Elke Fuchs and Olaf Schumacher. Hermann Kopp from Stuttgart, a friend of the band, contributed a composition on their 1st LP and became a full member in 1985. Taking cues from Conrad Schnitzler, Tuxedomoon and Dome, the band members shared a common interest in industrial, pop, avant garde literature and cinema. Their controversial name translates to 'Don't Know' or 'Haven't Got A Clue' in German. The quartet would record 3 LPs in 6 years, 2 of which remain unreleased. In march 1983, Keine Ahnung recorded their self-produced and financed debut LP in 2 days in a small studio in Stuttgart (12 hours total). The mixing was done in 1 day in a studio in Karlsruhe, april 1983. The self-titled LP was released later that summer on their own PASSIV label in an edition of 1000 copies. This record obtained recognition far beyond the German borders. Keine Ahnung in the studio and live were completely different. Studio time was expensive in these days, so the music was minimal electronic pop, expertly crafted and razor sharp man machine music. The live sound utilized more complex synthesizers, tapes, guitars, metal percussion and custom built electronics. The beats and bass lines came from the Roland 606/303 duo triggering a KORG MS-20 for the bass drum. The track "Funkbild DPA" is a spontaneous 'live in the studio' recording, that gives a hint of what the live sound was like. All 4 members would take turns singing and playing the instruments. The vinyl is housed in an exact replica jacket designed by Rolf Schmuck, featuring black & white texture and cartoon drawings the band members. Each copy includes a double sided insert featuring lyrics, notes and photos of the band.

la vida sigue igual / 12"

'La Vida Sigue Igual', the sophomore ep from Savage Hymn. The project is a collaboration between Miami born-and-bred Mystic Bill Torres (Trax, Relief, Classic) and native New Yorker Jake Reif (Device Control, Upsetting Keys). Jake spent some musically formative years in the Midwest, drawing influence from the cultures of Chicago and Detroit. Fueled by the underground energy of warehouse and loft parties of the era, he began his Dj career in the early 90's. Bill grew up going to goth and industrial clubs in Miami before moving to Chicago where he held residencies at clubs with Johnny Fiasco, Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, and Ralphi Rosario. The duo is heavily influenced by the early Chicago house and Detroit techno sounds as well as European electronic body music like Front 242 and Liaisons Dangereuses. Their 1st release 'Indecision' was a white label for Rong Music in 2015. 'La Vida Sigue Igual' is immediately a more physical affair than its predecessor, kicking off with the title track, a hard hitting percussive monster. The sparse simplicity of the machine gun synth work & monotone Spanish vocals by Mystic Bill evoke classic 80's industrial and art house dance tracks. We've included the instrumental version for adventurous Djs who want play doubles. On the B-side are 2 versions of the track "Animals". Version 1 explores the underbelly of NY with maniacal industrial rhythms and samples from Diamanda Galas and Travis Bickle (Robert DeNiro) in Taxi Driver. Version 2 ventures into dark freestyle territory, fueled by the underground energy of Chicago's Warehouse and Medusas clubs. The vinyl comes housed in a jacket with hand drawn illustration of night time jungle themes designed by Eloise Leigh and screen printed in muted teal pantone on French environment paper by Stumptown Printers. Each ep includes a postcard with a black and white photograph of the duo.

hole in the sky / LP

Lives of Angels was the brainchild of Gerald O'Connell from London, England. At the end of the 70's, O'Connell had been working on material for Mystery Plane, a band that included his wife Catherine on keyboards and backing vocals. In 1980 the pair of them left to form Lives Of Angels and focus on O'Connell's own songs, which he felt were more oblique, atmospheric and evocative than the narrative style and social commentary of Mystery Plane. The result sounds both of its time, comfortably nestling under the gloomy clouds of British post-punk and goth, and oddly out of time; its homemade quality placing it outside of obvious chronological signifiers as the motorik riffs and spartan drum patterns loop over and over to infinity. O'Connell was unimpressed by the musical offerings of the early 80's (with the exception of New Order, Cocteau Twins and Depeche Mode, he notes), instead drawing from San Francisco psychedelia, Van Morrison's Astral Weeks, Congolese guitarist Dr. Nico and the full pantheon of krautrock (especially Amon Düül II, whose song 'Archangels Thunderbird' contains the line, "there is no elevator to Eden but a hole in the sky"). Keyboards and some vocals were provided by Catherine, who also acted as editor, making changes to the arrangements or pointing out inappropriate drum patterns (hence her credit in the sleeve notes as "percussion censor"). 'Elevator To Eden' was originally released in 1983 on cassette by Color Disc and reissued on vinyl in 2012 on Dark Entries, in slightly condensed form. 'Hole In The Sky' is an 11-track compilation of material from the Lives of Angels archives. Including 2 tracks from the original 'Elevator To Eden' cassette omitted from our vinyl reissue, 2 tracks from Color Disc compilations and 7 previously unreleased tracks. This compilation features the very earliest Lives of Angels recordings "Call Moscow" and "Somebody Else" as well as the final composition from 1986 "The Infinite Corridor" plus original mixes of "After Dark" and "Look Out Kid" different than the versions on the 'Color Supplement' compilation. 'Hole In The Sky' is an impressive example of early 80's home recording; a DiY interpretation of the elegance and ambition of the previous decade's krautrock. Each copy comes in custom made jacket designed by Eloise Leigh and includes an 11x11 double-sided insert with liner notes, lyrics and photos. "You have no idea how rewarding it is that people are interested in what we did all those years ago", says O'Connell. "Catherine had a very happy time doing all that stuff, it was brilliant, and I felt that it was a success artistically. It deserved more attention. Better late than never".

27 / 12"

Tobias Bernstrup is a contemporary musician and video artist born in 1970 in Gothenburg, Sweden. He received an MFA from Royal College University of Fine Arts Stockholm in 1998. Using the visual language of pop culture, video games, sci-fi, classicism and gothic noir, he has created a stage persona with notorious live performances. Dressed in elaborate costumes of skin-tight rubber suits and fetish gear, Tobias' external appearance is androgynous. He raises questions about representation of identity, the body and physical space in both virtual and non-virtual realities. Between 1997 and 1998 he self-released 2 limited CD-r ep's. In 2002 his debut album 'Re-Animate Me' was released by Tonight Records followed by 2 limited 12" singles for the song "27" and the Italian version "Ventisette". '27' is a 5-song ep collecting 4 different mixes of the title track plus one unreleased song from the 'Re-Animate Me' recording sessions. The material on this ep is closely connected with the world of computer games which Bernstrup also inhabits. Bernstrup's music is influenced by 80's italo-disco and synth-pop, reminiscent of Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode and Ken Lazlo. On the A-side is the original mix at 115bpm followed by the 'Laser mix' set to an faster beat and additional arpeggiations and heavier bass drum beats. Lyrically the song tells the story of a good looking 27-year old boy from a small town searching for love with any man who can spoil him. On the B-side are both the vocal and instrumental of "Ventisette", the Italian translation of the song "27". Both versions of "Ventisette" are stripped back compared to the A-side but keep the melodies in tact. Also released for the first time ever is the demo "Dirty Money" a Pet Shop Boys influenced song about male prostitutes ready for a night out working the streets. For the jacket Eloise Leigh transformed the original portrait of Tobias into a Warhol-like painted polaroid with a striking likeness to Liza Minelli with blue eye shadow and red lipstick. Each copy includes a photo postcard with lyrics and notes. "I would rather create alternative routes to experiencing and understanding the world, understanding what it means to be human today", says Bernstrup. "We are more artificial than we want to admit".

Latest offering from Bézier, a 3-track ep titled 'Primes'. Bézier is the moniker of San Francisco based musician Robert Yang, who is also part of the Honey Soundsystem crew. A multi-instrumentalist, Robert planted his roots in San Francisco in 2005. Over the years in SF he has built an impressive analog synth-based studio, which also serves as the creative hub for his riveting live performances. 'Primes' represents the theme of primordial origins and creation with 3 tracks that explore disparate, sonic environments in each song. The title track flows and ebbs like currents in an oil slick. Out of something messy (like primordial ooze) arises organized chaos. "Stranger" is a moody dark electro/wave track for a sweaty night cruising on the west coast of Holland. Set against an underwater sound canvas the song features seductive guest vocals and lyrics by Nicole Ginelli. Doc Sleep of Jacktone Records provides additional production duties. The final track, "Imperial Tranz Am", is an airy, ethereal slow burner clocking in at over 13 minutes. It originally appeared as the soundtrack to an experimental queer fantasy film of the same name by SF film maker Aron Kantor. The vinyl comes housed in a jacket featuring a Quadtone pastel earthtone of pixelated celluar ooze designed by Eloise Leigh. Each ep includes a postcard with an image still from the 'Imperial Tranz-Am' movie. "Do I hear what I see, is it real or just a feeling, a vibration of N-R-G".

Looky Looky is the new project from Jeffrey Sfire and Ian Clark, both residing in Detroit, Michigan. The pair met in the late 90's when Ian was performing as one half of Le Car with Adam Miller of ADULT. Ian also recorded under the moniker Perspects, and released on Clone, Ersatz Audio and Interdimensional Transmissions. Jeffrey has released a series of singles and remix ep's with Samuel Long as Sfire on CockTail D'Amore Music and Ultramajic. The duo released their 8-track debut album 'Part Flamingo' in 2016. All 8 tracks represent one body of work but are presented as 2 distinct concept ep's: 'Part Flamingo' and 'Nurse Coven'. They're loose, fun pastiches of 80's movie soundtracks with accompanying imagery. For the 'Flamingo Boots' ep we chose 4 songs from the album which the pair extended for maxi 12" throbbing dance mixes. Looky Looky describe the project as equal parts light and dark, a contemporary recasting of italo, Hi-Nrg and electro. The songs infuse bright 80's sonic textures with a seedy, sweaty thump. The Motor city duo is about a year into the project, but is already known for their hardware-heavy live set after playing the Honcho Summer Campout last year and the 2017 edition of Gays Hate Techno in northern California. Each jacket features a collage by Chicago-based artist Nicole Ginelli of a Nagel-esque face with a mauve/grey color scheme with fuchsia and green accents. Also included is a postcard with notes and a photo of the duo.

qu'est-ce qu'il a (d'plus que moi ce négro là?) / 12"

Philippe Krootchey was a musician, Dj, radio and television host born in Versailles, France in 1954. In the early 70's he joined political gay liberation movement Revolutionary Homosexual Action Front (Front Homosexuel d’Action Révolutionnaire) that gave radical visibility to homosexuals. Turning to the decadent nightclub scene of Paris, Philippe became one of the most important disc jockeys of the late 70's and early 80's holding residencies at les Bains-Douches and the Privilège. Philippe's look was striking and his elegance and charisma massive. In 1981 he formed the band Love International with Philippe Chany and Fred Versailles and released the hit disco single "Dance On The Groove (And Do The Funk)". He also sang back up on both "Jungle Hurt" by Mathematiques Modernes and "Les Baisers D'amants" by Lizzy Mercier Descloux in 1981. Between 1984 and 1988 he released 3 maxi 12" singles under his surname 'Whatazzy' (1984), 'I Hear My Ears' (1986), 'Cruel Justifier' (1988). In 1984 Krootchey released his debut single "Qu'Est C'Qu'Il A (D'Plus Que Moi Ce Négro Là?)" on disco label Casablanca Records. Subsequently the single was re-released the same year but sung in English as "Whatazzy". For this release he teamed up with former Love International bandmate Fred Versailles, who shared his love for Kraftwerk and Yellow Magic Orchestra as well as glam rock and 70's black American soul music. Fred remembers, "The idea was to send a message about racism against black people with a humorous tone. The French title translates to "What Has This Nigger Got, That I Do Not Have?" Reversing the racial scales, Philippe (who is black) would get the girls and the fame, making white people jealous. It was Philippe's tactful way to joke about racism he had experienced and overcame". The result is a slick synthetic funk and electro boogie reminiscent of Grandmaster Flash and Afrika Bambata. Philippe rap and subverting racism at the same time. On the B-side is "Voodoo" a slowed down instrumental dub version that stretches out the original to over 7-minutes. Sadly on September 2, 2004 Philippe Krootchey died of a cerebral aneurysm, just short of celebrating his 50th birthday. For the jacket Philippe asked his friends Pierre et Gilles to do the cover artwork. They made a portrait of Philippe as chocolate powder mascot 'Banania' inspired advertisement with a wide grin and red fez cap. This was a radical criticism on the embodiment of racism still present in the 80's from the colonial Era in France. Each copy includes 2 postcards with lyrics, photos and liner notes by Fred Versailles. "He belonged to nothing, no clan, he was light in the good sense of the word and his supple resistance persisted". (Jean-Baptiste Mondino)

a blind sign / 12"

Shoc Corridor was the London post-punk quartet of Paul O'Carroll (voice, synth), Andy Garnham (synth, drum), Chris Davis (guitar, bass, e-bow) and Nogi Prass (synth) named after the Sam Fuller film from 1963. Chris met Nogi shortly after moving to London in 1979; they started playing music together, fell madly in love, and decided to form a band. They recruited Andy, who had previously played in a band with Stephen Luscombe of Blancmange, and lyricist and vocalist Paul. Their influences were wide reaching: Kraftwerk, Neu, Cabaret Voltaire, Brian Eno, PIL, and Joy Division. The group recorded a 4-song demo during 1981 in a tiny flat Chris shared with Nogi in Notting Hill. As their collection of instruments grew they set up studio a few blocks away in Andy's flat at 20 All Saints Road. There they re-recorded "Sargasso Sea" along with "On Reflexion" on a TEAC reel-to-reel 4-track machine. In the summer of '82, the band was booked into Decibel Studios in Stoke Newington for 2 and a half days with Mark Easton of Shout Records, where they reworked the 2 songs. The group usually worked through studio experimentation rather than constructing their songs in a conventional way. Their equipment list included a Korg MS-20, Wasp, Pro-One, Roland TR-808, WEM Copicat, guitars, bass, e-bow and an assortment of effects pedals. "On Reflexion" began as a Blancmange backing track, since Stephen Luscombe would sometimes use Andy's 4-track, Korg MS-20 and drum machine. Chris has memories of Paul disappearing from time to time to the neighboring graveyard for inspiration, where they had to procure him from to lay down vocals. Their debut 3-song 12" single, 'A Blind Sign', was released in october 1982 on Shout Records. this re-issue includes the original skeletal 'Sargasso Sea' 4-track demo from 1981. Evocative and dreamy, the music escorts you on a tour of icy landscapes, with Paul's rich vocals guiding the way. Each copy includes an 8x11" 2-sided insert with liner notes, lyrics and photos designed by Eloise Leigh.

The song written by Marzio and his sister-in-law, Antonella Bianchi from italo-disco group Plustwo, who also sings back up vocals. The song features dark, driving bass, solid drums and melodic synthesizers that Tony's deep vocals float over. Lyrically the song is a romantic dream where the singer falls in love forgetting the bittersweet disappointment of day to day reality. On the B-side is the slightly shorter instrumental version with extended breaks, drum claps and dubbed out bass lines. Italo-disco duo composed of Domenico Ricchini and Joe Garrasco. Domenico formed his 1st rock band in 1974, and 4 years later his 1st disco band. During the early 80's he produced records under various names like Delanua, Bob Salton and Sylvi Foster. In 1983 he took the alias Joe Yellow and started recording with the producers Roberto Turatti and Miki Chieregato to release one of the biggest italo-disco singles "Lover To Lover". In 1985 he teamed up with Joe Garrasco, a Dj at Free Club a Super Dancing Discotheque in Braone, Italy. Their 1st composition together was another hit single for Joe Yellow, "I'm Your Lover" released in 1986. In spring 1986 the duo began working on a new song for a yet unnamed side project. They spent a few days at 33 Studio in Milan and recorded "Love Sex For Sale" with Jimmy Mc Foy on vocals. This project was titled Garrasco's and the single was released in 1986 on Fuori Di Testi. Unsatisfied with the mix, they booked a fresh session at Regson Studio in Milan to re-record the song. The result was re-naming the projecting Joe Garrasco & M.M. (for the band Marita – Marillena) and the song as "Action" released on Out Records in 1986. All 4 mixes display dark, driving melodies with surging synthesizers that build to a climax for the chorus. Jimmy sings back and forth between English and French about a finding love after a night of dancing under the moon. Both instrumental mixes display more adventurous electronic arrangements than their vocal counterparts. The other mix of "Love Sex For Sale" employs a vocoder spoken introduction that sounds like Vincent Price narrating a horror movie and showcases a female freestyle rap by backup singers Lidia Salvetti and Cristina Scara. Each record comes in a full color sleeve featuring the original cover art from both singles on the front and back plus a postcard with a photo and notes.

Thomas Leer is an innovative electronic musician from Port Glasgow, Scotland. He began singing for a local band at age 13, and was writing his own music by 18. By 1977, he had moved to London, where he fronted Pressure, a Clash-esque punk group with fellow experimental Scottish musician Robert Rental. After hearing Kraftwerk, Leer became interested in synthesizers; not long after, he was exploring the experimental techniques of Eno, Zappa, Beefheart, Faust, and Can. In 1978, Thomas released his 1st single, "Private Plane"/"International", on his own Oblique Records that we reissued in 2015. '1979' is a 14-song collection spread across 2 pieces of vinyl clocking in at 70 minutes. Leer says, "1979 was a great year for making music. The punk explosion 2 years earlier, cleansed the palate and opened up minds to new sonic possibilities. It was in this spirit I took to exploring electronics and set up my first little home studio. Bearing in mind this was before such luxuries as Portastudios or affordable multi-tracks, I decided sound quality was less important than experimentation and innovation, so I pressed on with the meager equipment I had. My tabletop studio in Crouch End, North London, consisted of two cassette machines, a copycat tape echo, some FX pedals, ring modulator, guitar, bass & Wasp synthesizer". Songs range from half serene atmospheres, to minimal rhythmic workouts, to tape loops layered behind distorted guitars, to cold layered singing, all with a psychedelic lo-fi attitude. The jacket features an industrial photo of a man standing on an overpass with a passing truck taken by Thomas' brother Andy Wishart in 1980. Each copy includes a 2-sided black & white postcard with liner notes by Thomas. 38 years later this is fresh UK DiY post-punk, compelling pop with a dark heart, vacillating between the pretty disturbing and the disturbingly pretty.

'Dualism', the sophomore ep from contemporary Montreal-based duo, Solitary Dancer. They released an eponymously titled debut ep on Midland's label Graded in late 2016 after their track "Desire & Apathy" was featured in his Essential Mix. They are known for their elegant, richly-sculpted sound design and knack for propulsive club rhythms that eschew rigid 4/4 drum patterns. 'Dualism' opens with "Anything", equal parts Drexciya and Dopplereffekt; full of low-end bass stabs, blipping synths; swelling and washing to a cinematic close. For the 1st time on a Solitary Dancer record, vocals make an appearance in the guise of a male companion who's lamenting a lost lover. "Losing Touch" takes a classic electro beat, and through the use of elegiac pad washes, distorted bass and menacing vocals, morphs into persistently engaging shapes. The B-side's "Emails 2 Myself" is a suspenseful corralling of intriguing sonic elements. Its fractured 707 beats combine with melancholic strings and features vocals by Marie Davidson, another core member of Montreal's creative electronic scene. "I can't turn off my brain", she delivers with deadpan accuracy about head games in the age of computer communication, before harmonizing octaves into majestic elegance. Also included is the instrumental version of "Emails", accentuating the bass drum, snare, hi-hat and melodic synth tones, sailing into the subdued evening sun of the future. The record is housed in a custom made jacket designed by Eloise Leigh, featuring photographs by Scott Pilgrim, which explores themes of duality, an individual looking into a mirror, conjuring the image of a mannequin. A juxtaposition highlighting the ideal as the female self. Each copy includes a double-sided postcard with notes.

I'm going to go / 12"

Jago was the studio project of Michele Violante created in Milan, Italy in 1983. The line-up also included Luciana Cirrillo aka Kynsha, who wrote lyrics and sang back up vocals. The name Jago comes from Iago, the main antagonist in Shakespeare's 'Othello'. In those years, Michele produced a lot of songs and published material for Full Time Records. "I'm Going To Go" was recorded at Forum Studio in Rome in 1983 and released on Full Time the same year. He made an electro-funk demo with a Gibson Les Paul, but during practice the song became soulful funk but arranged with new wave electronics. The song revolves around a slick atmospheric bassline, driving electronic percussion, and tight rhythm guitar and synths. The setup for the recording was a Casiotone MT-40 keyboard, Boss DR-55 and Sequential Circuits Drumtraks drum machines, an Akai cassette recorder, and a Revox A77 for multi-tracking. Lead vocals were done by session musician Bruno Kassar, delivering Kynsha's playful lyrics along to the lead melody. Also on the A-side is the instrumental Version which became a hit in New York after Larry Levan played it repeatedly at the Paradise Garage. Full Time asked Levan's long time friend Frankie Knuckles to make a remix. It was released in 1985 as the 'Plant Mix', and is included here on the B-side. This was Frankie's 1st released remix, although the record label misspelled his name as 'Frankye'. The remix clocks in at over 8 minutes, and is a dub edit made using the stereo master of the instrumental track. The record comes housed in a newly designed die-cut jacket by Eloise Leigh, updating the purple and blue color scheme of the original Full Time label. Each copy includes a double-sided postcard insert with lyrics, notes, and a never seen before photo of Kynsha from 1982.

'A Tape', a double LP of early work by Helena Hauff, a Dj and record producer based in Hamburg, Germany. At university she studied fine art, physics, and systematic music science. She previously was a resident at Hamburg's Golden Pudel Club, where she hosted a night called Birds and Other Instruments. As a selector she weaves energetically between electro, new wave, and EBM. Her music, often recorded live in one take, has a raw intensity to it. She debuted with an ep on Werkdiscs back in 2013 followed by records for Lux Rec. and Bunker sublabel Panzerkreuz as well collaborative projects Black Sites with fellow Pudel resident f#x and Hypnobeat with James Dean Brown. 'A Tape' is a compilation of Helena's earliest recordings from 2011 and 2014, originally released on limited cassette by Handmade Birds in 2015. Clocking in at over 50 minutes, this collection spans Hauff's musical universe, from jacking acid-techno to krautish zone-outs and scuzzy feedback interludes. It's tempting to consider it Helena's debut album, but she views these tracks as mostly forgotten sketches left on the cutting room floor. It a gripping collection of deep, sinister analog synth sequences, industrial dissonance, and heavy percussion. Her equipment set up was a Roland Alpha Juno 2, Juno 60, TB-303, TR-707 and TR-808. Both of the discs end with Hauff stepping outside of the intentionally stiff, robotic rhythms, instead showing her skill at crafting less conventional electronic sounds. The record is housed in a custom made jacket designed by Eloise Leigh, featuring a checkered graphic and black lines, highlighted by yellow and green for maximum visual tension. Each copy includes a double-sided postcard with notes.

dance it down / jamaica running / 12"

Patrick Keel is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, and performer. The Pool was his solo project, the sum of 15 years of experience in live bands, studios, and home recording. Patrick was heavily influenced by the radio of the early and mid 60's in Dallas. The British bands and Black soul of the era gave him a distinct style, and shaped his musical attitude. The new-wave/punk/DiY attitudes of the late 70's inspired him to express himself in a new way. 1980 saw the release of 'Pool One', a 60-minute home-produced cassette. 'Pool Two' followed in 1981, which received much praise and little distribution. In 1982 he released a 5-song self-titled vinyl ep of tight, skeletal, synthetic dance music. In 1983, 'Dance It Down/Jamaica Running' 12" ep was released on Moment Productions. Based on response from Dj's in New York and the Bronx, Patrick went back in the studio and remixed 2 songs from the self-titled ep for rapping, scratching and break dancing. "Jamaica Resting" was sped-up, extended, and reconfigured as "Jamaica Running". The whirlpool synth-strut of "Dance It Down" came out of the studio as "Dance In Dub", with a heavier kick and extended dub outro. These spacious versions were optimal for Dj play, slotting regularly in sets at hip clubs like Danceteria. For this reissue we've added 2 bonus European remixes from the 1984 12" of 'Dance It Down/Jamaica Running', released on Nunk Records from Belgium. Both songs employ the use of a Boss DR-55, Korg MS-20, Korg PolySix, and a Prophet 5, and were mixed on a 16- track Ampex recorder. The Pool's spartan, self-assured songs are experiments you can dance to. The record comes housed in a newly designed jacket by Eloise Leigh, updating the magenta and blue grid and Pool logo of the Moment Productions release. Each copy includes a 12-page booklet with a never seen before photos, press clippings and notes.

life with you... / 12"

Gianluigi 'Gigi' Farina and Francesco Rago are to be counted among italo-disco's true originators. Operating as a duo under many monikers, they brought us masterpieces such as Wanexa's "The Man From Colours", 'Lectric Workers "Robot Is Systematic", and Decadance's "On And On". Their sound is propulsive and ethereal in equal measure; dense, psychedelic, and tinged with melancholy. Their 1st composition was under the name Expansives. "Life With You" was recorded in Milan in 1981 and released on Leader Records in 1982, and features then 16-year old Xenia Monneret on lyric-writing duties. They wanted to incorporate a more electronic sound to break the classic disco mold, and in the process, they created an early, raw example of what would come to be known as italo-disco. A thumping bass synth and processed drums set the groove, while Francesco sings of his loneliness. Tension is released when he later breaks into a Bee Gees-esque falsetto, but in the context of such an unusual song, the uncanny becomes familiar, the familiar becomes uncanny. Unfortunately they were not able to afford a professional recording studio and had to re-record each take over the same reel of tape. This caused a subtle surface noise buzz that adds to the warm analog feel of the song. On the B-side is the instrumental version with extended breaks, drum claps and dubbed out bass lines. The record comes housed in a newly designed die-cut jacket by Eloise Leigh, updating the orange and green color scheme of the original. Each copy includes a double-side postcard insert with lyrics, notes, and a never seen before photo from a fashion show.

rive gauche / LP

Philippe Chany is a French songwriter, film music composer and producer from the town of Gap in the southeastern region of the Hautes-Alpes. He formed Love International with Philippe Krootchey and Fred Versailles in 1981 and released the #1 boogie disco hit single "Dance On The Groove (And Do The Funk)". The B-side of this single featured a cover of Dave Brubeck's "Unsquare Dance" released as a single in late 1981 credited solely to Chany. In 1983 Philippe went into Studio O.M. to record songs for his solo project. The album titled 'Rive Gauche' was released in 1983 by Polydor Records. Philippe was inspired by experimental film composers Michel Magne, Ennio Morricone, Lalo Schifrin. Songs are a fusion of Chanson synth-pop, experimental italo funk, majestic balearic disco and arabesque instrumentals. He enjoyed making blends, combining rhythms with scratches, utilizing a Roland TR-808, Jupiter 8 and various Akai samplers. All the songs are recited in French and English and revolve around themes of love and mysticism plus a passage read from Antonin Artaud's 1925 poem 'L'Ombilic Des Limbes'. Housed in an exact replica of the original jacket, which features a photo of Philippe by Jean-Baptiste Mondino on the front and a painting of him by Nadia Back on the back. Each copy includes a 11x11 insert with lyrics and archive photo. "Fiction talks right to your brain, Never the same…Be different!" (Philippe Chany, 1983)

the eepp / LP

Phantom Forth were the brother sister-in-law team of Paul Luker (guitar, bass, vocals), Debbie Luker (drums, guitar, vocals) and Lorraine Steele (keyboards, percussion, vocals). They formed in 1981 in Auckland, New Zealand. Early 1980, Paul had just returned from a nationwide poetry reading tour and bought a bass guitar. He would practice as his brother's house and Debbie suggested they form a band. Lorraine joined soon after. With a shared love of Young Marble Giants, Wire and Cabaret Voltaire they started to rehearse at LAB Studio. 'The EEPP' was recorded in 1983 within a few weeks at Progressive Music Studios. Slated for release in February 1984, the mini-album finally appeared in november on Flying Nun Records. It contained seven moody sketches of Auckland. Their sound blends cold wave guitars, drum-machine propelled post-punk with female vocals. The core recording set up was a Casiotone MT-40, Boss DR-55 Dr. Rhythm, Roland TR-606, bass, guitars and various effects pedals. Paul would EQ each string individually with the parametric, later the combination of chorus and slight delay was added. Lyrically Lorraine and Deb tackle relationships with boys turning into men, escapism, dreams, drugs and reality. Included with this reissue are 2 early demos recorded at LAB in 1982, made prior to Lorraine joining the band, plus a recording from the Flying Nun live compilation 'The Last Rumba'. The vinyl comes housed in sleeve with original artwork collage designed by Paul Lurker. Each LP includes a two-sided 8.5x11 poster with notes and photos.

don't be afraid / 12"

Some Bizarre are a trio formed in Bergamo, Italy in 1983. The line-up is Marino Scarabelli (music, producer), Tiberio 'Tyber' Scarfone (arrangement, producer) and Stefano Brignoli (lyrics, vocals). Tiberio was a Dj at a local discotheque, where he met Marino. Initially they considered calling themselves Funny Marvin, but settled on Some Bizarre after recruiting Stefano, whose initials mirror the name. "Don't Be Afraid" was their 1st composition, recorded in Milan in 1983 and released on Il Discotto the same year. Stefano, sitting on a sofa in the studio, wrote lyrics while Marino composed the music. They developed their sound with a Mini Moog, Prophet 5, Korg Synthesizer, and Linn Drum. Stefano sings of a romantic night with a lover, dancing into a dream world. Heavy percussion serves as counterpoint to the infectious melodies, which were inspired by Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor. Backup vocalist Enrica Danesi adds a powerful call-and-response for the chorus, elevating the dramatic tension. The B-side features an instrumental version. The record comes housed in a newly designed jacket by Eloise Leigh, inspired by the song's themes of liquid love, heartbreak, and moonlight against a Rococo column. Each copy includes a double-side postcard insert with lyrics and notes set against a disco parquet floor.

I'm looking for you / 12"

Ghibli is the solo project of musician, producer, and vocalist Alberto Garbelli, from Milan, Italy. At the age of 23, while reading a comic book, he encountered the word Ghibli, which is the name of the wind of the North African desert (and also a Maserati car model). Inspired by Klaus Nomi and Nina Hagen, he began to sing in an operatic fashion. During this time Alberto would frequent the local discotheques. Watching the unique mix of performers and dancers, Alberto lost his inhibitions and was inspired to become an artist. "I'm Looking For You", the debut single from Ghibli, was released on Durium Records in 1985. The song features Roland synthesizers and Linn Drum machine punctuated by Yamaha DX-7 chimes/bells. The lyrics focus on the perpetual search for the perfect lover. What many think are female backup vocals is, in fact, Alberto's falsetto voice. On the B-side is a shorter instrumental version, stripped down to an ominous chant, making for a more driving track. "I'm Looking For You" was mixed by producer and musician Tony Carrasco, one of the Djs at Studio 54 in New York, who initially took Alberto into the studio to record. Housed in an exact replica of the original jacket, which features a portrait of Alberto in a suit and bowtie. Each copy includes a postcard with lyrics and notes, plus a bookmark with the hand-drawn Ghibli font.

trust no woman / LP

ZYX are the duo of Inge Graf and Walter Zyx. They formed in Vienna, Austria in 1977. Committing themselves to the "aestheticisation of everyday life" in all fields of art, their works with video, photography, graphic design, and music are visually influenced by Pop art, Constructivism, Futurism, Dadaism, Beat culture, and the electronic rock of the 60's and 70's. They are considered pioneers of multimedia art worldwide, and continue to remain active to this day. 'Trust No Woman' is the debut album from ZYX, and was released in 1981 on the label RCA Music. It was recorded, mixed and mastered from march to august 1981 at their own Sun Moon & Stars Studio Vienna. They designed short, punchy songs around a barrage of analogue synths, rock-solid electro beats and tempered, low-key vocals. Cold and claustrophobic atmospheres collide with mechanical rhythms The songs are sung in English with a heavy German accent, and lyrics channel obscure existentialist dialogues. Despite the sombre tone, there lingers a touch of the enthusiasm that accompanied the influx of affordable technologies and new media of the era. It is a album that advances on the ideas set forth by The Human League, Cabaret Voltaire, Tuxedomoon and Yello. The vinyl comes housed in replica of the original jacket design, which features a photograph from a video still by ZYX. Each LP includes a copy of the double sided 11x11 full color insert that was included with the original pressing, which features photos and lyrics. Faced with the increasingly blurry line between human and machine, they approach their art with a still-potent blend of ambivalence, optimism, and melancholy.

sudden haircut / 12"

Frak are Björn Isgren, Johan Sturesson and Jan Svensson, a trio of synthesizer lovers from Sweden. The band was formed when Svensson and Isgren's older sisters were best friends and they introduced their little brothers to each other. Inspired by Severed Heads, DAF, Human League, Devo, Skinny Puppy, the boys began collecting analog equipment and started Studio Styrka. While the band were still in their early teens they released the 1st Frak cassette album in 1987 on their own record label Börft. Almost 30 years later, Frak continue to release their bizarre brand of Scandinavian techno with their debut release on Dark Entries. "Sudden Haircut" was recorded in 2015, a 10-minute brooding, heavy hitting acid attack full of 808 drum claps aimed at the dancefloor. The 3 remaining songs come from a studio tape the band found in their archives named "FRAK 'After The Silence' 2001-2010" "Synthgök" and "Synthfrilla" were recorded in 2010 and originally released on the 'Börft' ep by Sex Tags Mania in 2012. Utilizing a 808, 303, 101 and MS-10, both are supreme cuts of electro-leaning acid techno that perfectly fit the dancefloor's sweatiest moments. The deliciously rugged final track "First Glimt I Ögat" is a vintage unreleased Frak song from 2001. Designer Eloise Leigh has created a playful DiY jacket based on a mysterious black and white photo of the band in their classic tin foil masks. Each copy comes with a black and white postcard featuring a distorted back stage photo of Frak in their teens.

kickin' in / 12"

Unreleased disco 12" by San Francisco-based musician and producer, Patrick Cowley. Perhaps one of the most revolutionary and influential people in the canon of disco music, Cowley created his own brand of hi-nrg dance music, 'The San Francisco Sound'. During the 70's, Patrick was the lighting technician at The City disco in San Francisco's North Beach neighborhood. This was SF's largest Gay entertainment complex, where everyone from Grace Jones to Sylvester would perform. Frank Loverde was performing there with his band Loverde when Patrick asked if the band would like to do backups on some songs he'd been working on. Frank, Linda Imperial and Timmy went to Patrick's studio and laid down vocals for songs, most of which were never released and remained buried in the Megatone vaults. In 2007 Honey Soundsystem was contacted by the former owner of Megatone Records John Hedges. Hedges' was moving to Palm Springs and invited us over to his basement to collect over 2,000 records from his collection. Among the archives we noticed 3 moldy boxes of quarter inch reel to reel tapes. Included was the final mixed down reel for "Kickin' In", an epic 12-minute journey through disco, that Patrick recorded with Loverde in 1978. From the 2 minute plus drum solo that builds up to the introduction of a bouncing arpeggiated Prophet IV and the harmonized vocals, all transport the listener to another realm. The song encapsulates the hi-nrg dance music that Patrick became known for. It was an 'up' sound for the gay disco scene, music that would compliment and sometimes enhance all night dancing. On the flip are 2 earlier songs produced between 1975-77 featuring basslines by college classmate and studio mate Maurice Tani. Both songs feature Patrick narrating erotic gay sex fantasies inspired by San Francisco's leather bars, back rooms and bathhouses. These songs show the sleazy side of Cowley's slow burning, oozing electronic creations with layers and layers of synthesizer, guitar, drum machine and vocoder. Each 12" comes housed in our custom Honey Soundsystem die-cut jacket featuring an illustration of the San Francisco skyline. Also included is a 8" square postcard of the original "Kickin' In" reel to reel box with Patrick's handwriting on the front and lyrics on the back.

cosmologist ep / 12"

'Cosmologist', the latest offering from our resident Dj: Robert Yang aka Bézier. A multi-instrumentalist, Robert was trained in saxophone starting at age 10, before moving onto a Fender Telecaster after high school. After being exposed to Southern California rave culture in the late 90's, he moved onto Djing and collecting records. By the time he planted his roots in San Francisco in 2005, Robert had built an impressive analog synth-based studio, which also serves as the creative hub for his riveting live performances. 'Cosmologist' explores Robert's personal universe with 3 tracks that connect his varied musical lineages. "Cosmos", a celebration of the late 80's/early 90's KIIS FM universe, is built around an infectious freestyle hook that morphs into a 7 minute tour of intersecting styles. "Ether" begins as gothic night-driving electro, but breaks into fantasy-scapes inspired by italo and 80's Japanese anime theme songs. The final track, "d. Quelle", clocks in at over 11 minutes, incorporating bebop jazz solos drawn from his early exposure to improvisation techniques by Charlie Parker, Cannonball Adderley, and Stan Getz.

Savage Grounds released their 1st 3 records with Lux Rec., of which one of the members from this Swiss duo is the label boss. This new ep is the 1st release coming out elsewhere. Savage Grounds have created a sound of their own. A sort of post-techno which combines elements of techno, elektro, EBM, acid and industrial. But these tracks will for sure also appeal to lovers of analogue synth music. The whole ep sounds like it has been recorded in an one take synth jam. Raw and fierce synth sounds for the body and soul. Edition of 250 copies, screen printed in black & gold sleeve !

Dutch synth duo Staatseinde finally releases their debut ep on vinyl. After two 7"s on Enfant Terrible they present this 6-track ep. Stripped down through the years from a band to a duo the sound also changed. The songs on this ep are more up-tempo, louder, more beat orientated. And also darker as before mostly.. and.. for sure more dancefloor minded. Expect some classic minimal synth tunes in line with El Aviador Dro and Welle: Erdball for example but also more punchy tracks with EBM influences. Staatseinde 2.0 has arrived! Edition of 250 copies, risopgraph printed sleeve !

This 4-track ep is all about acid, techno and elektro beats go hand in hand to make up party music pur sang ;) This is simply a great piece of acid music which will appeal to fans of Ceephax Acid Crew and acid trax in general.. LCN (aka Le Chocolat Noir) was present on the 'Noblesse Oblige' compilation (Gooiland 23) with a sweaty EBM influenced track. On this 4-track ep you can expect dark and cold elektro sounds. It is reminiscent of Invasion Planète and Kommando 6 output but with a cleaner and more modern sound. Still if you like(d) these early 2000's elektro sounds you will love this too! This ep follows up on the steady stream of releases LCN has been putting out lately. Among them on labels as Frigio Records and Return To Disorder, but this is probably his most dark and freaked out release up till now... Edition of 200 copies, screen printed sleeve !

rather not / LP

Twins is Matt Weiner who is also known for his Featureless Ghost project and of course as the head of the DKA Records label. His project Twins is not limited to one specific style but the dominant characteristic is the synth driven sound. Other influences in the mix are various styles of dance music and a healthy dose of arty post-punk. This new mini album 'Rather Not' is the perfect blending of all of this. Due to this it is on the one hand a classic minimal elektro record but at the same time a rather modern piece of electronic music. Catchy tunes and surprising twists go hand in hand and make up for an authentic and original record. Which is more stunning every time you play it! Mini LP, 250 copies with 2 variations of the sleeve !

faceless future / LP

Roberto Auser is known for his wide range of sounds and releases on Viewlexx and his own Ausland label. Next to that he is part of Kaval (Vrystaete). Even though his releases until now go from italo-disco inspired electro to exotica and dark jazz influenced electronics his production is always rather smooth. For Enfant Terrible he shows his raw and dirty side. 'Faceless Future' is an oldschool minimal elektro record done with analogue synths with a real industrial and post-punk attitude. This record pays tribute to (early) Cabaret Voltaire, (early) Front 242 and (later-day) Le Syndicat Electronique. Simply minimal electronics as it should sound.. Rough and unpolished. Mini LP limited to 250 copies !

The duo were also part of 3 compilations on Enfant Terrible. And now after all these years there is this new 7". Not truly new as these are tracks re-discovered from the ET archive, but these 2 dark dancefloor tracks are still way on top of the game. Powerful and raw but catchy too. Minimal elektro for both the old followers and new fans of the style. Limited to 250 copies !

Antlers Mulm has been sending his melancholy songs and soundscapes into the world for many years now. Some years ago one song was featured on the 'Radio Resistencia' compilation (ET001) and finally there is this 7" on Enfant Terrible. The 2 tracks are coming from the last album 'Touring The Moon Bog' which was released on CD and tape earlier this year. Both tunes featured on vinyl here are the most up-tempo and rhythm driven ones from that album. Recommended for fans of Solitude FX but also those who are into New Order. It is all melancholy, dreamy and catchy. What else could you wish for? Limited to 250 copies !

Kit n C.l.a.w.s. is a project by 2 experienced musicians in the fields of dance and psychedelic music. Teaming up was probably one of the better ideas they had for a long time as the music this duo serves us is simply amazing. Deep trance indulging moody house tracks with acid influences. Still this acid never becomes industrial as techno can be but stays on the psychedelic side of things. Slow trippy stuff to dance and dream away on. Headmusic for the dancefloor. The musician behind Kord is an original member of Swedish cult electronic/acid oufit Frak and producing music since the late 80's. With Kord he produces a more synth-pop minded kind of music (most of the time). For Gooiland Elektro he teamed up with his partner in crime/love and came up with this raw elektro ep. These tracks are the perfect mix of crazy and twisted electronic music (a signature of his Frak work) and dancefloor orientated sounds since the late 80's. So we get served unpolished dance tunes with hints of EBM, new beat and (minimal) elektro. Non stop primitive disco for sure! Limited to 200 copies on black vinyl !

Cherry-picking selection of rare new wave demo tapes recorded in 1981 and submitted to pivotal Amsterdam venue 'De Koer', now rounded up by Dutch house and techno legend Eddy De Clerq. Fair to say that we know less about the Dutch post-punk and new wave scene than many other countries so this set holds some canny historical value at the very least but the tracks inside are thankfully worth your time, too. Plucking favourites, Lee Randaldo and co's hot-stepping "Big Man" as Plus Instruments is up there, as is Mekanik Kommando's skronky twyster "Money For Pleasure" and the dark, hard but slightly daft charge of Minny Pops' "State Of Mind (demo)", and likewise the flashes of funked-up synth brilliance from Motel Bakossa and The Mutant Jasz's very Ludus-like Gold Square Garden. 180gr deluxe vinyl edition is limited to 300 copies..!

keine richtung ep / 12"

Testlab recently opened its doors, welcoming guests with a tape of demos and live tracks from a hometown institution. In the 80's 'De Koer' was a haunt for wave artists, industrial interlopers and synth stalkers. And after that walk down memory lane the fledgling label is ready for a contemporary take. Raderkraft, a project by Willem Stinissen, caught the ear of Eddy de Clercq, a pioneer of the Netherlands wave scene and boss of Testlab. And on listening to 'Keine Richtung' you can hear why. Cold, yet surprisingly playful, "Das Leben" is a synth track that seems to smile at the serious situation it finds itself in. Vocals sternly scold plodding melodies in a strangely parental manner. Racing on rapid fire rhythms is the speeding joy of "Wir Sind Zufrieden". Notes are stark but that tongue in cheek element is again present, that touch of the early experimenters coming to the fore. "Der Rundgang" follows the same sprinting percussion. Arpeggios rumble through rain soaked streets, neon flashing in snare rolls and cascading chords. "Keine Richtung" taps into Club Lederhosen's post-punk past. Brash and bold bars are hammered by beats. Vocals are scorched by distortion and static. The track is fast, sweat stained and fiery and dripping in angst. Stinissen mentions his love of pre-MIDI sounds and Raderkraft certainly has an uncluttered style. The coldness of electro is ever present, but there is also a freewheeling quality to the ep. With respectful nods to past fixed forms, this stripped down outing has that individual streak that makes it stand out from the angular crowd.

During the early 90's Brigitte started to arrange gatherings / parties, (electronic music) for local underground clubs in her home city of Augsburg, Germany. In year 2000 she founded the electro collective Kommando 6, and in 2001 she decided to run a label again, under the same name, Kommando 6. Molly Nilsson is now our well-established soulmate, sister and fairy godmother. In 2015, Molly Nilsson's 'Zenith' broke new ground for her, fast becoming her biggest selling album to date, winning her new acolytes. For us, Molly Nilsson is beyond other songwriters and singers. A lyricist so nuanced and honed that each epithet speaks directly to the heart, removed from the humdrum of everyday life and industry. For an artist who has so successfully created her own environment and gradually let others in, her 8th studio album 'Imaginations' sees Nilsson directly engaging with her surroundings, engendering change and allowing love in. 'Imaginations' dreams big, recasting storming, stadium-sized pop into the internal language of the solo auteur. 'Imaginations' is not escapism, it's a kaleidoscope and an alternative view, an agent of change. On 'Imaginations' Molly is recasting her interior monologue as a prism through which to see the world, a means to live differently and to reject the status quo. We can Think Pink, change our destiny together. This is an optimism about the future when we need it the most. Standard black vinyl edition !

Peek-a-boo! An artist in her songwriting prime, hyperactive with the possibilities of the world despite the global zeitgeist forever shifting, Molly Nilsson sent us 2 new songs around the same time as the tracks for her new album 'Imaginations' that were incredible pop tunes on their own right, yet just too long to fit on 'Imaginations'. Like much else in Molly's career, we decided to break the mould, not follow album-release protocol, and surprise you all with this double AA a mere fortnight before Imaginations hits the shelves. "About Somebody" seems to be about somebody, or maybe even somebody's body, about desire too, perhaps. How else to interpret the line 'Babe I want to party with you every night, and have a hard-on for the rest of my life?' But this is a Molly Nilsson song, and this is empowering content. Over a rousing, even anthemic, verse/chorus one-two, a soaring synth-string hook that rides the handclaps beautifully, we're soon left wondering whether our beloved narrator is really focusing on the 'other' at all. Love lets you down: treat it mean, keep it keen, and remember if you can't love yourself how the hell are you gonna love any body else? On the flip, "Quit (In Time)", is a classic minor-key Nilsson elegy to obsession and addiction, sounding almost close to an early 80's Springsteen love-story. Here we imagine Nilsson at the piano, her heart a resounding bell for all longing. If about somebody is the tumultuous onset of an affair, here we're hopelessly drawn to the flame, unable to leave alone that which causes the sweetest pain. It's a universal theme, the longing for something we shouldn't have, and Nilsson seems to elucidate the feeling with a precise, razor-sharp lyrical nous that fans will instantly recognise. 'Single' is about the self and the other; about navigating the love of others that tries to trip us up. But it's also about you. 'Single' is because you're worth it.

follow the light / LP

"The closest we'll ever get to heaven, with a stolen six pack from 7/11, and though the city sleeps I better she never dreams, she never dreams like you and me." The beginning moments of Molly Nilsson's 2nd album 'Follow The Light' now seem like the start of a personal mythology that was to reach further than she could have imagined. Few contemporary artists have so seeped into the underground pop psyche than the Stockholm-born songwriter. After releasing her debut 'These Things Take Time' on hand-made CDrs, Nilsson's follow up was a leap in scope and ambition. Of course, the personal takes on a tumultuous life in Berlin and the journeys to and from it inform the songs as before, but there's a growing maturity in the songwriting in evidence. From the diary pages of 'These Things Take Time' to a growing stature as a songwriter in touch with the universal, 'Follow The Light' contains many of Nilsson's now firm fan-favourites. "The Closest We'll Ever Get To Heaven" is classic Molly Nilsson. Over plaintive piano chords and little else, Nilsson narrates a story of doomed friends lost, the onset of an East German winter reminding the singer of a time lost, nostalgia frosting the windows to the past. "Meanwhile In Berlin", perhaps a passing nod to Leonard Cohen in the melodic refrain, opens up the sonic palette, with synth strings fitting Nilsson's delivery perfectly. "Never O'Clock" is a pure pop moment, with a lilting funk and percussion adding a carpe diem immediacy to the album's flow. "Last Forever", which remains a staple to live encores now, 7 years later, is fist-pumping melancholy that only Molly Nilsson knows how to do. It's over before it begins and begs eternal repeat. "Truth", a synth pop song that sees Nilsson exploring the upper and lower registers of her voice, feels like a lost chart hit from the mid 80's. "I Hope You Sleep At Night", a vitriolic lover's admonishment gives way to one of Nilsson's most popular songs: "I'm Still Wearing His Jacket". It's a sentiment that needs no real explanation: the mementos of a completed love affair remain in our wardrobes waiting to hurt us all over again. "Hello Loneliness" could also be an updated Leonard Cohen song, a peon to melancholy which reminds us that Nilsson has a knack for distilling the complex into sharp epithets. We end on one of Nilsson's greatest songs. "A Song They Won't Be Playing On The Radio" is so finely loaded with emotion that it's the singer's reserved delivery that makes it so powerful. Artist : Philippe Laurent

Label : Peripheral Minimal

phoenix / 12"

New 12" by the French electronic pioneer Philippe Laurent entitled 'Phoenix'. A 3-track ep featuring 2 brand new tracks on A-side "Phoenix" and "Agapao". Meanwhile over on B-side, we have the 13-minute electronic opus and highly representative of his early work "Exposition 4", a never before released track from Philippe's extensive archive, and recorded in 1982. The ep is representative of Philippe's latest forays into contemporary synth music, but still with a retro futurist edge and influenced partly by German pioneers Kraftwerk / late 70's kosmische and electro / synthwave acts, fitting into the current enthusiasm for early 80's synth pop and minimal wave. The ep is presented on white vinyl and limited to 300 copies.

untitled / 12"

CC Dust is a new duo from Olympia, Washington featuring Maryjane Dunphe & David Jaques. Channeling an elemental life-force hewn straight from the heart, Dunphe's voice bursts into every melodic line, a cracked, soulful instrument powered by conviction, duetting, duelling and dancing with Jaques' crisp production. A light that casts shadow, CC Dust is doomed, romantic music anchored by Jaques' live bass and the powerful performance values Dunphe has honed both in her punk group Vexx and in various film and performance projects. Musically, CC Dust's precedents might be considered the European synth-pop originators of the early 80's, there's also an abundance of low-end hooks played on baritone and bass guitars that teases the ear like early New Order productions, but in Dunphe's passionate vocal performances there's a close-to-the-bone reality that bypasses cool detachment. Limited to 300 copies..
