heute / 12"

Zwischenfall formed in 1982 with Michael Sass (synths), Martin Urban (bass/vocals) and Stephan Kraemer (guitar/drums); all of German descent. They were united by musical sensibilities that combined electronic and traditional instruments developing the basis for their 1982 demo recordings. By chance Patrick Codenys of the Belgian electro pioneers Front 242 heard 2 songs and decided to record a 4-song ep for the electro band’s newly formed label Mask. The "Heute" ep was released in 1983 after a week of recording in Front’s private studio under the direction of sound-whiz Daniel B. Bearing in mind Midi had not been invented at the time, the recording involved some extensive sound sculpting including the use of individual synths for separate drum sounds. To create an organic feel to the combination of acoustic and electric guitar, a trumpet and a bass were incorporated into the electronic arrangements. Sonically way ahead of their time, Zwischenfall have a distinct sound with hard rhythms and melancholic melodies that blend minimal yet catchy electronics to create a very danceable production. The ep also features 2 bonus tracks from the "Heute" sessions never before released on vinyl : the uptempo "Tausend Jahre" and "Katastrophe" the demo version of "Flucht". Including an original press kit with lyrics and band photos and limited to 500 hand-numbered copies. Thx !

exterminating angel / LP

Huge reissue of Dark Day's 1st album 'Exterminating Angel' originally released in 1980 on Lust/Unlust. Dark Day is the minimal electronics brainchild of Robin Crutchfield following his separation with no-wave band DNA. Growing up in rural Pennsylvania, Crutchfield was fascinated with both performance art and the most esoteric edges of pop music. After making his escape to New York City in the mid-70's, he was inspired by Yoko Ono's Plastic Ono Band and Lydia Lunch's Teenage Jesus & The Jerks. He made the transition into the new music of downtown Manhattan and formed the no-wave band DNA with Arto Lindsay and Ikue Mori in 1977. In 1979 Crutchfield left DNA to pursue a series of musical projects under the name Dark Day. His 1st album, 'Exterminating Angel' is named after the Luis Bunuel film of the same name. All 13 songs on this LP use cheap synthesizers to create cyclical, machine-like keyboard riffs as a foundation for the moody, Teutonic music. Crutchfield sings like a lost member of Kraftwerk with a dry detachment creating a starker and chillier atmosphere. Lyrics were derived from cut-up methods similar to those used by the surrealists, fluxus artists, and William Burroughs and Bryon Gysin and pit the subjected against their torments and tormentors. All songs on 'Exterminating Angel' were originally recorded at Sorcerer Sound, NYC. 1979 and produced by Charles Ball. Each LP includes a two-sided fold out poster containing lyrics, photos and lyrical explanations by Robin Crutchfield. Dark Day continue to inspire the current wave of stark, eerie, processional synthesizer music more than 30 years later. Must-Have!

flesh / 2x12"

Dark Entries & Captured Tracks have teamed up to re-issue this gold gem from the 80's, in a deluxe edition remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley directly from the original master tapes. Lp 1 is the 'Flesh' Lp and Lp 2 features the "No Clubs" and "Special World" singles plus the 'World Trade' ep. Jeff & Jane Hudson are a husband/wife duo from Boston who got their start in the art punk band The Rentals in 1977. The Rentals broke up in 1980 and Jeff & Jane relocated to Manhattan where they opened for Suicide and quickly signed with no-wave label Lust/Unlust. Their 1st single "No Clubs" was released in late 1980 and showcased a lo-fi avant garde all synthesizer band. The 'World Trade' ep came next in 1981, expanding their brand of post-nuclear electronic pop. Their vocals qualities were distinct; Jeff quivery and drug-addled while Jane more detached and icy. The duo reached their pinnacle with 1982′s seminal 'Flesh' Lp. Perhaps one of the US biggest achievements in the entire synth movement of the 80's. The music was electro-pop with Jeff's lyrics flirted with technology and politics, while Jane wrote about cultural and psychological situations. Completely self produced by the band, the record has since been oft-cited as a groundbreaking and pivotal Lp of the post-punk era, who's original copies are now heavily coveted by collectors. Completing the discography is the 'Special World' 7" released in 1983 before the band emigrated back to Boston and stopped recording and performing. Each double Lp set comes in a gatefold sleeve with unreleased photos, original artwork and a lyrics sheet. Masterpiece !!

Borghesia is an electronic music group, founded in 1982 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The band was formed by 4 members of alternative theatrical group Theatre FV-112/15: Dario Seraval, Aldo Ivancic, Neven Korda and Zemira Alajbegovic. They established fv video to self-publish their video projects and fv založba (the 1st independent record label in ex-Yugoslavia). Aldo and Dario took care of songwriting, production and recording while Zemira and Neven handled the visuals. In the late 80's the band signed to PIAS and went on to release a string of successful albums and played world-wide tours. 'Clones' was Borghesia's 2nd album, self-released on cassette only in 1984. The band borrowed synthesizers (Roland SH-101, Casio VL-1, Korg Polysix) and a Roland 808 drum machine from friends. Every song was played live (no overdubs) and recorded to a cassette deck over a few nights at their club Disco FV during 1983-1984. The music on 'Clones' is meant to accompany various video installations and performances. All of the songs are instrumental and feature various cutting edge techniques for 1983. Hypnotic, proto-techno and acid rhythms and synth lines. Music on the A Side of the LP is faster and club oriented while the B Side offers a drugged out soundtrack to get lost in.

Xymox, later known as Clan of Xymox, was founded in Nijmegen, a city in the east of the Netherlands, in 1983 by Ronny Moorings (vocals, guitars, synthesizers) and Anka Wolbert (vocals, bass). Ronny saved up to buy a TEAC 144 4-track tape recorder and the duo relocated to Amsterdam in april of 1983. They began to record songs utilizing a Yamaha CS-15, Korg MS-10 and MS-20, a BOSS Dr. Rhythm DR-55, guitar and effects pedals. Layering drone-like tones of monophonic synthesizers over tape loops, rhythm tracks, guitar, and bass, they created a unique fusion of lush psychedelia and dark, angular atmospherics. The result was a 5-song ep, 'Subsequent Pleasures', was released in 1984 and limited to 500 vinyl copies. It was a precursor to the darkwave sounds of their self-titled debut LP on 4AD Records, which was released the following year. At the time, Anka was designing silk-screened posters for a music venue called Oktopus. She based the sleeve design on a drawing she had done of Ronny lying in the grass that summer and used some cutouts and details of other photos. Today, the record is highly sought after by collectors. One song from the ep, "Muscoviet Musquito", was later re-recorded for the compilation album 'Lonely Is An Eyesore' released by 4AD in 1987. All jackets have been silk-screened with pink and grey paint, using the original plates Anka created in 1984. Each copy includes a fold-out pink newsprint poster with never before seen photos of the band, lyrics and liner notes by Anka and Ronny. Λένα Πλάτωνος (Lena Platonos) is a Greek musician, pianist and music composer. One of the pioneers in the Greek electronic music scene of the 80's, she remains active until today. Lena was born on the island of Crete and grew up in Athens. She began learning how to play the piano at the age of 2 and became a professional pianist before turning 18. Soon afterwards, she received a scholarship and studied in Vienna and Berlin where she was exposed to jazz, rock and Middle Eastern music. She permanently returned to Greece in the late 70's and began working with the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation. Her debut album was released in 1981 and marked a innovative change in Greek music by featuring the strong use of synthesizers, which Platonos had begun to experiment with."Γκάλοπ" ("Gallop") was Lena Platonos' 2nd record that she solely composed, produced and sang. The record was released in 1985 and had a profound effect on the contemporary Greek music scene. "Gallop" was composed in the wake of a painful separation and took several months to complete. Lena says, 'It's a study in the mythology of urban population of the contemporary metropolis and also a gaze into the future life of it'. The album is made exclusively of analog synthesizers and heavily features the iconic Roland TR-808 drum machine. Lena's narrates each song, reciting her own surreal Greek poetry with unique skill. Lyrics deal with heartbreak, dreams, desires and the foresight of society's obsession with computers in our daily lives. "Gallop" is an album ahead of its time and Lena has an exceptional talent for conceiving issues that were to conquer Greek TV screens and newspapers many years later. The jacket is an exact replica of the 1985 edition featuring Lena's original collage. Each copy includes a 2-sided lavender 11"x11" insert with lyrics, photos and liner notes by Lena, filmmaker Antonis Boskoitis and fellow Greek musician Vassilikos. Prepare to become fully enveloped and entranced by this haunting masterpiece ;)

world of rubber / 2x12"

Second Layer was a side project of Adrian Borland & Graham Bailey, members of post-punk band The Sound. The project was born from early punk band The Outsiders, which had both Graham and Adrian as members. Second Layer featured the voice and guitars of Adrian mixed with the bass and pioneering electronics of Graham. The music was bleak, detached, and desolate, but very beautiful. Honest songwriting and a harsh sonic backdrop set them apart from their peers. The band's 1st 2 singles were released by Tortch label. The 1st was 'Flesh As Property' ep in 1979 and the 2nd 'State Of Emergency' ep in 1980. By 1981 Second Layer had found a home on London-based label Cherry Red and released their debut album 'World Of Rubber' in november of that year. Full of hard mechanical sounds produced by Adrian's guitars and Graham's homemade drum machines, the album actively engages the listener. Songs are manic and twisted, pervaded with haunting subterranean atmospheres. Adrian's anguished voice tackles lyrics that are politically charged and morbidly fixated. Metallic guitar riffs, moody basslines, and Wasp synthesizer beeps are set to the band's cache of processed tape loops. They are a homegrown electronic garage band that sit alongside their contemporaries Joy Division, Cabaret Voltaire and Public Image Limited. This deluxe 2xLP edition features the complete recorded output of Second Layer plus 5 unreleased demos from 1978-80. Each LP comes in an exact replica of the original metallic sliver and black jacket from the 1981 issue with a never seen before fold out poster made by the band in 1980 with liner notes, photos and press clippings. Though Adrian passed away in 1999, his genius lives on in these recordings. Clap the headphones on, squeeze the volume up..!

3 years already after the release of "Angoisses Et Divertissement", Brouillard Définitif is happy to present you, in collaboration with Guerre Froide’s label Flashbacks Futurs, their 2nd album "Abrutir Les Masses" is definitely orientated into the future, still dark but featured of many more rich sounds. Between the tracks "Hypnose" and "Canal Historique", the band attracts us in their personal universe. Well approched lyrics, mindblowing music, attractive refrains, inspired by the society in derivation such as the track "Des Illusions" shows it. Even "Identité Variable" or also "Le Fil" does explains that. Sometimes the mood is more close-friend as on "L'Expérience", a kind of strange variation of a certain "Espérance". We found on this opus somemany tracks already played live, or unreleased till now such as "Sauvage" and "Abrutir", or which are present on the mCD released some months ago with the tracks "Nom" and "Entre Nous", here provided on the new album with a different mixing. Guerre Froide pulls us toward to some new unexpected musical horizons, with various inspirations. 10 tracks showing us that the band still have many things to tell us ;)

Interacción was a duo formed in the early 80's in Madrid by Carmen L. Fernández de Velasco & Jose Luis Iruretagoyena ,who worked in a multidisciplinary way with minimalist electronic music, image and texts through different methods ,including amongst them Mail Art. Their works were distributed through channels parallel to the system such as sales by national and international mail and in the few specialised places dedicated to this type of music, and also through international collaborations on foreign compilations. They released 2 cassettes: 'Extensión De Los Significados',which compiled works from 1980 to 1983, and 'Ancestrales' with sound material from the years 1984 and 1985. They also contributed to the sale and distribution of music tapes through Visión de Granada, and also of like-minded groups involved in the same scene. They released a video in 1986, called 'Lucis Et Umbrae' that was presented in the II Festival of National Video held in the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid in the section Videos a la Carta. Another tape with the same title was released with the sound material of this audio-visual work. land of the damned: 25th anniversary edition / LP

It was more than 25 years ago that Handful Of Snowdrops, a pioneer band and a model to follow in the Canadian Electronic new-wave, released its 1st and mythical album 'Land Of The Damned', which, with own effort, has become an essential and cult piece of music to worship especially amongst all kind of true collectionists and music-lovers, into the most gothic, electronic and darkwave. It can be observed in the growing interest all over the world towards this 1st album, self-produced in 1988 and was reedited in 1990 by the record label C'est La Mort for the American version, a company which disappeared in the 90's and was largely inspired by the UK label 4AD, which introduced many other groups, also pioneer and high-quality, such as The Arms of Someone New, M-1 Alternative, the wonderful 'Voices...... of a Summers Day' by Room Nine, or the remarkable saga of compilations 'Doctor Death's'. Unfortunately, nowadays it is very difficult to obtain a copy of 'Land Of The Damned' in good conditions, and even more difficult to have it at reasonable price. For all that, today Domestica introduce us the official reedition of their debut album in vinyl format, carefully remastered and redesigned for the occasion. circuit lights (1982-1986) / LP

Edition of 320 copies. LP presented in a heavy weight matte die-cut jacket, with printed inner sleeve which shows through the cut. This 2nd edition comes with different colour sleeve. The songs that Gary Ramon edited during the Modern Art era (from approximately 1982 to 1989) was basically from cassettes; most of his music didn't take off outside of the English 'underground' scene in the 80's, probably due to the fact he only had limited copies of his albums, in some cases less that 50. Inspite of the circumstances his songs are still fondly remembered by many lovers of independent music and after many years others have also discovered his surprisingly fascinating work, (partly) thanks to the internet. Nowadays it's much more difficult to enjoy his music in it's original format and even more so to enjoy his completed work. For all these reasons Domestica have decided to produce this selection which gathers up and represents part of the original work during the most experimental era of Gary Ramon's music career. We constantly wonder why this compilation has not been thought of before now.. Tip !!

native state / 7"

6th release on Cititrax, Native State by Canadian artist Kontravoid. The name Kontravoid belongs on a limited run cassette circa 1980-something, the type of tape buried in lost upstate dustbins of pre-MIDI analog electronics, wedged between Cabaret Voltaire and Das Ding. The dark industrial and new-wave influences are strong on ex-Crystal Castles drummer Cam Findlay's new project—his voice is scary, like an echoing underwater growl—but the underlying pop melodies always afford a degree of breathing room. After departing as writer/producer for Toronto band Parallels, Findlay has settled into a music venture he can call his own, assuming the identity of this masked alter-ego for what appears to be a permanent ride. On his debut self-titled album, Kontravoid turns to analogue synths to create a dark, brooding pop masterpiece. His brilliant vocals emit a dystopic low-grown, often running through warped effects accompanied by exceptionally stirring arpeggiated synths and washes of sound. Modern touchstones could parallel the likes of John Maus or Trust, but Kontravoid's vision is a much more twisted one, embracing goth influences and yielding a monstrous result that is harder to define. Despite its sonic vampiricism, Kontravoid's music leaves plenty to dance and lose your mind to, but the imagination here goes way beyond these activities exclusively. The tracks presented here, Native State (stream the video) and Cut To Cleanse are exclusive 7" only versions. The record is pressed on clear blue vinyl and comes in a hand silkscreened sleeve, limited edition of 999 numbered copies.

Selections from the prolific Belgian synth-pop band Polyphonic Size. Headed by Roger-Marc Vande Voorde, Polyphonic Size formed in 1979. In December of that year, they released their 1st record, the 'Algorhythmic ep' on Sandwich Records, an independent label founded by Michel Lambot. After a 2nd ep (Pragmatic Songs), Roger-Marc got in touch with Jean-Jacques Burnel, who offered to produce the next single, "Nagasaki Mon Amour". This 1st musical collaboration was followed by many others, including an outrageous and robotic cover of the Rolling Stones’ classic, "Mother’s Little Helper". After several line-up changes, the band finally consisted of Roger-Marc Vande Voorde (vocals, guitar, keyboards, electronics), Kloot Per W (bass, vocals), Martine Bourlée (vocals, percussions) and France Lhermitte (vocals, percussions). Dominique Buxin wrote nearly all the lyrics, but never appeared live on stage or on any record sleeve. Although Polyphonic Size and JJ Burnel were very close to each other, the band always kept its own personality, which was less dark and more European than the Stranglers. The 'Earlier / Later' LP are remastered selections, curated mainly from Polyphonic Size's early output as a band, from when they formed in 1978 to when they began working with JJ Burnel in 1980. The tracks on side A represent their early period were recorded between 1978-1980 and the side B tracks, recorded between 1980-1982, are representative of how their sound evolved whilst working with a producer. The LP is pressed on transparent red 180gr vinyl, housed in a heavy printed sleeve with text overlay printed on a clear vinyl outer sleeve, and limited to 999 hand-numbered copies.

The Actor is a well known but simultaneously quite obscure minimal wave project that emerged from the Dutch home taping scene of the early 80's. The duo was formed by Marcel Reimer (vocals, keyboards) and Sander Horsthuis (keyboards) in Breda, The Netherlands in late 1981. Influences were DAF, Soft Cell, Depeche Mode and Fad Gadget. Guitars were no option, "because the amplifiers would mar the stage". The Actor caught the attention of cult cassette label Trumpett through their powerful live act and were signed to the label in April 1982. Their 1st, self-produced album was released in September 1982 as 'Exploded View' (an exploded view of a cassette tape was featured on the sleeve): 10 quite simply arranged synth-pop tracks that were dynamic and danceable, with lyrics sung both in English and German, relating to the modern world, fashion, dancing, fame, appearance and self-image. The edition of 400 copies sold out within 6 months. The track featured on this flexi-disc, "Unreal Personality", is the opening track of 'Exploded View' and the archetypical The Actor song, with lyrics directly referring to the band's name. The song was recorded during the summer of 1982. The music and lyrics were written by Marcel Reimer. The song was played and produced by Marcel Reimer and Sander Horsthuis. The equipment they used was the Korg MS-20, Crumar Performer, Casio VL-Tone, and Soundmaster SR-88 drum machine. It has been remastered from its original analog source tape for best possible sound reproduction. Secret Life was an Antwerp (Belgium) based new-wave band, featured on this album in their most quintessential line up. The band acquired a dedicated fan base and played at legendary new-wave venues such as Plaza, Paradox and Tom Tom. Secret Life released a widely distributed 8 track tape, from which many songs were released on various cassette labels. This album features those tracks for the 1st time. Included here as well is their only vinyl release at the time: the double A-sided 7" "Searching/Agression", a modest cult hit and now a sought after item. Tip ;)

The Button's self-titled 1st release opens with "Bright Lights", a trance inducing proto-disco hymn filled with sublime synthesizer harmonies and rolling sequences setting the tone for the rest of the album. "The Drift" continues with a rush of euphonic strings and vocoders, but possesses a more raw stripped-down feel reminiscent of early Depeche Mode tracks. With its catchy synth-pop refrain and haunting melodies, "Be My Creature" sounds as if it spawned from a dark disco dream deep in the bowels of L'Altromondo Studios. "I.R.M.", "Neuromance", and "Floating On" all impress with catchy hooks and serene electronics, the latter transporting us into a dream-like state with subdued sequences and ethereal keyboard melodies. Disko Obscura presents Ortrotasce's self-titled debut album. A binary selection of the artist's prolific work, Ortrotasce is a 2-headed beast. Side A opens with the brilliant "World Un Related", underscored by anxious synths, driving bassline, and spectral vocals. "New System" follows suit with throbbing drums and a woeful guitar rhythm, while the instrumentals "Diffuse" and "Shatter" feature heavy coldwave synths and dizzying sequences. Side B turns feral headlined by "Losing Mind", an EBM behemoth driven by loaded industrial percussion and savage singing/shouting. The same severity surfaces in "The Body", "Passion", and "Expanding Room", the latter a tenebrous instrumental marked by clever and infectious bass lines and rhythms. Limited to 500 hand numbered copies, pressed on black 160gr vinyl with thick spot glossed black on black pocket jacket and custom insert. Tip !

die brücke / LP+7"

Ideally in transit between yesterday and today, between adolescence and maturity, between an arcadian dimension and a more actual reality made of mirrors and metal. Here it is, the sonic trip for these 2 singular characters: Zarkoff & Popsimonova, a taste of sci-fi retro comics, as the bridge of hyena plisskinn in Carpenter's 1997 'Escape From New York' or the characters of the bridge of William Gibson, the master of cyberpunk american literature. The minimal futurstic attitude is deformed, exagerated, distorted, in some case it becomes just a cold expressionism, violent synthetic colours as the sky of Munich, but the scream this time is purely electronic... The bridge, this eternal symbol of passage, the union of opposite realities, in this case reflected itself in the music, with deep roots that lie in the past (for the analog instrumentation) and then leap into the future, materialized from essential and modernist musical structures. Each human being builds its own bridge, a piece at a time, and so it happens the magic of communication, it takes place. In 'Die Brücke' it happens in the ideal musical dialog between this 2 singular characters, with their composite way to write songs. In addition (only for the 1st 100 LP copies) a 7" with 2 songs taken from the LP, "Wall To Wall" and the instrumental "Azzurre", remixed and rearranged by L.A.S.'s Crime, another electronic duo borned in the 80's, as a subtle line between past and future. A special edition that will amaze you with its orange vinyl and shining package..

journey of the deep sea dweller I / 2x12"

1st part of the Drexciya re-issue series! Drexciya might need an introduction for some, for others it is the most influential techno project ever. Part of the heritage of Detroit's Underground Resistance, Drexciya explored techno music like no-one else before. Raw and uncompromising music that reflects the harsh environment of the city where Drexciya was conceived. The aesthetics and the mythical approach combined with the unique music made this one of the biggest cult projects in techno music. Drexciya arguably stands for the darker side of techno and electro, music not only made for the club scene, but a further development of the music as an expression and extension of the mind. 20 years after the release of 'Deep Sea Dweller' (their 1st release), and 10 years after 'Grava 4' (their last), we present 'Journey Of The Deep Sea Dweller'. This series is an almost complete collection of their early works, and is remastered from the original master tapes. Since the original releases have such a strong character, appeal and stand on their own, this re-issue can never re-create the magic of those originals. So instead we stirred up the catalogue taking the tracks out of their original context, giving the 'in the know' listener a fresh experience and the new listener a document that is the best possible introduction to the aquatic world of Drexciya. ESSENTIAL!!

Very limited CD release, containing what is unarguably Luke's best production work thus far. Revisiting Bunker after guest spots on his own Stilleben label and the Catnip eps on which he collaborates with Legowelt, this is one amazing electro album. If you fetishize the imagined futures of darkstyle detroit music, or covet the kind of crazy, minimalistic robot sounds brother ron hardy kept down his trousers, then get this. Electro with a twitch then, eerie voices and a kind of twisted acidlined 'stiff white funk', the mighty Juan Atkins would be rightfully proud. Bad-intentioned vocal fuels the paranoia nearly to breaking point and an all in apocalyptic nightmare setting threatens to take all present gleefully over the edge and into the void. 'Split Personality' more than sums this up; cheery stuff!!. More future, more dark, more of everything than previous Bunkers, more Detroit, just give me more...

Appeared from the alternative Italian stage in the late 80's, Voxzema is one of the most unknown and peculiar bands in the european underground music scene. Despite not having launched any record before its early breakup, they did give a few concerts and, with some luck, you will be able to find 2 of their demos in the strange compilation in cassette format 'Ologenesi' from 1989. Thanks to an exhausting work of musical archaeology, Domestica found their original members and rescued their demos, most of them totally unpublished up to now. With a totally innovative sound, Voxzema is a mixture of electronic/coldwave with psychedelic touches, blunt bases and a deep male voice which may evoke a hybrid between Cassandra Complex and Kas Product, to name some of them... perhaps we're talking about 'cyberpunk'...? Released back in the spring, the debut album from former Crystal Castles drummer Cameron Findlay's project Kontravoid has proven to be a lot more rewarding than we would have given it credit for at 1st blush. Our initial impression (that although it has some good moments the LP is kind of brief and homogenous) remain valid, but over multiple listens the flaws seem less glaring, and the character of the record more appealing. Arriving in the form of punky-electro by way of early post-industrial, Kontravoid establishes its template, runs with it, and bails before it grows stale or wearisome. One of the best album of 2012!

The French minimal electro label Invasion Planete celebrated their 4th anniversary by releasing a compilation album on which various home acts have contributed a song as a birthday gift. chapitre 2 / 7"

Original copies found of this 2nd release by La Séduction Des Innocents (aka Le Syndicat Electronique). After the great debut LP 'Chapitre 1' we are again treated with more dark minimal electronics. On the A-side of this 7" are 2 simply brilliant pieces. "Crucifixion" is an extremely dark and spooky pulsating track with haunting screams and yells. This is the perfect soundtrack for an old black and white ghost movie. "La Petite Vénus" is more industrial and rhythmic orientated but still in a very 80's sort of style. The melody and the vocal parts are vaguely reminiscent of early Death In June. Overall the atmosphere is that of a classic apocalyptic folk song. "Abandon" on the B-side has the same dark mood and also has an apocalyptic folk feeling, even though it has more electro related rhythmic sounds. 'Chapitre 2' creates a mythical, almost sacred, atmosphere in your surroundings when you play it. Released in 2005 as a limited hand-numbered edition of 514 copies, including a postcard.

sin destino / LP

New Lp by Staccato du Mal. Freezing out the heat-seeking Miami scene with his cold minimal-synth for the past decade, Ramiro Jeancarlo (half of the industrial outfit Opus Finis) offers up 10 tracks of analogue darkness. Sung in both English and Spanish, the LP is an aura of dread and claustrophobia that without a doubt evokes the brutally hot, dry, lonely landscape of suburban South Florida. But beyond the dismal swamplands, it's possible to detect the mournful ambiance of cultures plagued for centuries by colonization, civil war and political turmoil. Whether Jeancarlo means to offer "Salvation Through Suffering" as an alternative to everything from catholicism to revolutions-turned-tyrannies is not explicit, but the distinctive mood of dread conjures something more monolithic than plain nihilism. Therein lies the fascinating duality: "Lost Image" could as easily land in a soundtrack to a film about a lonesome teen in desolate suburbia as it could a film about Pinochet's Caravan of Death. Despite the disorienting feeling of so much of the album, Staccato's own 'coup d'état' comes in the moments of resolution where warm melodies and nearly psychedelic soundscapes counter the bleakness. While this album could be described as Wierd Records' least commercial release so far, Staccato Du Mal's music is rich with sonic feeling that makes for infinitely rewarding listening. Working within the confines of the minimal-synth genre, Jeancarlo manages to include elements of pop, noise, and industrial that slink to the surface with each eerie listen. Tip !!

domestic landscape (subterranean synth-wave compilation) / LP

Difficult to describe this album without using typical and recurring terms such as: 'extremely weird' or 'very rare to find'.. although it is inarguably true, and on this occasion we have wanted to go farther: we introduce you a selection of songs which, most of them, have never been released in physical format and can't be found in any other digital media until nowadays. Other few were published in very limited editions in cassette format, usually aimed at a local promotion of a kind of music which was totally inaccessible to the crowds, more than 30 years ago.. 'Domestic Landscape' is a compilation formed by 10 groups from all over the world. Some names will be familiar to those who have followed Domestica Records from the start in 2011. 'Domestic Landscape' is not a very common or habitual compilation, at least that is what we intended. Here you will find very different sounds, difficult to label, a range of songs made in a moment which is crucial to us, unknown but, at the same time, wonderful in the endless history of our beloved music. Limited edition of 450 numbered copies. Double side handmade printed cover. Album presented in a special die-cut jacket and heavy green cardboard sleeve. It includes an insert (30x30 cm) with extra information..

Artist : Dark Like A Restaurant

sight / 10"

Dark Like A Restaurant grew out of a number of experimental bands working in the Dallas area in 1979-80. In the wake of the Sex Pistols show at the Bronco Bowl (1978), an entire scene grew up in Dallas that was part punk, part proto-new wave. One of these bands was Boys Life, which contained 2 of the 3 members of the later Dark Like A Restaurant (only Roland TR808 was not in Boys Life). Rex Koontz played guitar and sang. Boys Life was fronted by Jaime Lagarella (keyboards & voice), later an important producer and engineer; Bob Green (bass, later of The Grassy Knoll), and Jeff Zilm (drums, currently a painter and previously of the Comateens). Boys Life never recorded but played several important shows at the premier Dallas experimental showcase the Hot Klub. After Boys Life disbanded without a recording, Dark Like a Restaurant formed to showcase Koontz's stripped synth and guitar sound and his increasing obsession with the hypnotic rhythms of the then new Roland TR808 drum machine. The combination of minimal synth foundations and a floating, haunting guitar sound served as the calling card for the band. Limited edition of 320 numbered copies only & including a leaflet..

Kremlyn was a techno-pop duet which is not, obviously, the solution to urban boredom problems, is launched in Barcelona as something brilliant and unusual, astonishing for all they achieve despite having little means, but making the most of their limited resources. J.J., an 18-year-old boy with a keyboard and an organ, from which he plays the drum machine, as well as other effects, for which he is the only responsible because of his autodidactic investigation. Amongst all his songs, "Rutinas" stands out; it's an excellent composition which, with no doubt, should have reached the 1st position of hits parades if someone decides to edit and promote it. In Yazoo's techno-pop style, however, Kremlyn's future were not very clear, due to a slight passiveness showed by its components, which refrains their music from being as well-known as it deserves..

unreleased & demos 1984-1986: 25th anniversary edition / LP

Long time before Handful Of Snowdrops released their 1st and mythical album 'Land Of The Damned', this cult band originally from Quebec City had produced, since their beginnings in 1984, an amazing amount of demos, although they had never managed to attract the interest and attention of the big record companies, despite their originality. In that moment, there was not a background or collective in Canada where they could fit... these are the very significant words of Jean-Pierre Mercier, co-founder of the band, in a recent interview in the digital magazine 'Subterock.com': "Quebec City was not known for its strong music scene, to say the least. It gave us a kind of freedom and infused us with a carelessness that I’m still grateful to." It was never a reason to give up music, on the contrary; 2 years after their formation, they recorded their most famous song, "Gabrielle", in a different version, in a little study in their hometown, which was later included in their 1st album. With this album we wanted to gather a compilation of some of their best unreleased songs, compounded in different moments but which have the same essence, always encouraged and led by Mercier brothers. All the songs are, up to now, totally unpublished, with the exception of 2 demo versions former to their 1st album ("Face To Face" and "Gabrielle"), and they have been remastered with an enourmous care, as usual, by Yves Roussel. Limited edition of 250 copies, no repress. Includes an insert. Tip !

french synth wave - st etienne - 1981

16.29€

Artist : Cha Cha Guitri

Label : Born Bad

french synth wave - st etienne - 1981 / LP

Unless you are a monomaniacal specialist of the 80s, there is very little chance that Cha Cha Guitry will ring any bell. And yet this band, buried away in Saint-Etienne (at the very heart of France) could have rivalled easily with Elli & Jacno or Telex. Emblematic of that French touch which tinged new-wave with a bit of sunshine, their electro, retro-futuristic songs have that slight sweet and sour flavour between casualness and sophistication. The birth of Cha Cha Guitry in 1981 was a landmark for its members, Serge, Dominique, Charly and Marie. High-school friendships and love stories helping, it is in a most spontaneous way that these art lovers formed their band. Once their hippie phase was over, the guitar, sax and flute were abandoned in the closet while machines took over: an EMS AKS synth, a Roland SH101, a Roland TR808 rhythm-box. The 2 couples met in the congenial atmosphere of their 'home studio' to record their songs. The boys composed and sang, the girls sang and designed minimal costumes, the elegance of which was enhanced by some Diy touches: no need for fabric, paper will perfectly do. As deceivingly offhanded stylists, the Cha Cha crew carefully crafted a music that was both studied and charmingly quirky, making collages of pop raw materials and avant-garde stuff. Scissors in hand, they took what they wanted from the Bauhaus, Moholy Nagy, or Sonia Delaunay's dresses, taping these iconic bits onto the sounds of Kraftwerk and what remained of pop culture (comics, movies, songs of the 30's or easy listening). Cha Cha Guitry, wisely ingenious, modelled tropical landscapes out of cellophane, thus elaborating its own synthetic surrealism. We'll offer as evidence the title "Les Yeux Ouverts Sur Les Beautés D'Aujourd’hui", borrowed from a handbook about mechanics. The adventure would not last more than a few years, just long enough to record 2 cassettes on Kronchtadt Tapes (a local label central to the underground scene that was more into punk) and give 3 concerts. As isolated as they were in Saint-Etienne, they got nevertheless noticed by Alain Maneval who programmed them regularly on Europe 1 Radio, and they could even be heard on Radio Gay. So they went to Paris to meet a manager from Virgin, but they never got the luck, rare in those days, to release a vinyl. Their arty, pop style was also too Diy for Agnès B's freshly opened shop: their 2nd cassette, though wonderfully packed in a Plexiglas case resembling an icicle, was not to the brand's taste. Serge has been living in the same flat since 1975 and never got rid of his synthesizer. The studio where Cha Cha would record its songs has not changed a bit. Everything has been kept, ordered, archived, from the piles of magnetic tapes to the hundreds of Polaroid shots. We are happy to offer you a selection of them. Greetings from Synth-Etienne :)

A compilation of tape recordings dated 1994-1995, inspired by Der Plan and Andreas Dorau. pleasure / LP

Debut album from Jewels of the Nile, a trio out of Portland with an obvious influence from the dark Northwest. Formed early in 2010 by Meghan Christine & Jessy Montaigne (Subtonix) while playing in their other project Magick Daggers, the 2 bonded over a common love of more primal, downtempo electronic music, also sharing double air in the stars, combining to create a spark of desire to form something that allowed the freedom of complete exploration in music and the world. The 2 are joined by Amity Givens on electric drums and floor tom, bringing driving beats and a dynamic live performance. The music transcends boundaries of dark electronic dance beats, to hints of tropical upbeat tango rhythms, laced with psychedelic reverb and infectious new-wave hooks in others. Lyrics are at times span into a deeper velvet clad register, bringing the suggestion of a more sensuous gnosis. The textures of the multiple synth layers range from pensive organ sounds to bell-like island melodies over tribal beats. Ace ;)

la ùltima emoción

la ùltima emoción / LP

Europa was a short-lived synth-pop group from Valencia, Spain formed in 1980 by Julio 'Nexus' Pastor (synthesizers), Alfonso Aguado (vocals, guitar), Lino Oviaño (vocals, drum machine), and José Luis Macias (synthesizers). The quartet championed the use of synthesizers, drum machines and other polyphonic gadgets in a city that was stuck in the throws of progressive rock. They recorded and released their only album 'La Última Emoción' in 1981 on cassette, released by DAI (Division Avanzada Independiente) a label interested in bands "capable of building electronic sounds from drum machines, sequencers, synths and effects, rather than conventional instruments like guitars and basses". The original issue of 'La Última Emoción' was limited to 500 copies. As part of the Spanish techno-pop movement of the 80's, Europa's songs featured arpeggiated synthesizers and upbeat drum machines that flashback to the sound of Vince Clarke's Depeche Mode days. Comparisons could be made to other Spanish techno-pop bands like Aviador Dro, Vocoder or Metal y Ca but Europa weaved a unique style of driving, energetic rhythms, bouncy keyboards and soaring vocals perfect for dancing or speeding into outer space. In 2010 the original Europa line-up reformed to play a few select live shows celebrating the re-issue of their 1984 cassette 'Máquinas Románticas' on Turia Records. Their sound remains clean, rhythmic and futuristically strange, transporting crowds to another dimension. Each LP includes an 8-page booklet originally housed in the 1981 cassette long-box complete with bi-lingual liner notes, lyrics and photos. 30 years later the futuristic sounds of Europa are ready to usher in another new wave. Just thank you!

see you sioux

Artist : Buzz

see you sioux / LP

'See You Sioux' cassette by Buzz for the 1st time ever on vinyl. Buzz began as the brainchild of J-C Van Thienen in Lille (France). He released 1 album in 1985, the highly limited demo cassette 'See You Sioux'. In the late 70's and early 80's J-C witnessed the punk explosion while studying and working abroad in England. He regularly attended concerts by Adam and the Antz, The Sound, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Ski Patrol, Spizzenergi, The Cure, interviewing the bands for a fanzine. Returning to France, and feeling inspired, J-C bought a Soundmaster drum machine and 2 2nd-hand synthesizers in 1983. He started composing songs applying the Diy punk ethos akin to Cabaret Voltaire and Fad Gadget, who like him were eccentrics in a pop-rock world. Borrowing a 4-track Portastudio from a friend, J-C recorded 7 songs that would become the skeletons for this album recorded in one take. Buzz combined new-wave dancefloor appeal with the abrasive textures and irreverent attitude of post-punk. The overall sound fits nicely beside their French contemporaries: Opera Multi Steel, Norma Loy, Little Nemo, Taxi Girl, but is more aligned with their Belgian neighbors the Neon Judgement and Trisomie 21. The success of 'See You Sioux' landed Buzz a deal with Danceteria Records, who would release 4 maxi 12" singles from 1986-1989. Around 1990 Buzz took a break, eventually restarting in 2005 with the release of a career spanning compilation and remix album. J-C continues to write and release music today with his project Vuduvox. Each Lp includes a fold-out, double-sided insert with photos, lyrics and liner notes by Anne Clark. 27 years later these demos provide a glimpse of the bleak post-industrial European wasteland as seen from the bedroom window during the French coldwave scene..

pattern completion / LP

Debut album by RedRedRed, a contemporary artist from San Francisco. Michael Wood, formerly of duo Primary Colors, began this project in 2012, taking inspiration from Front 242, Einsturzende Neubauten, Throbbing Gristle, Nietzsche and Sartre. Wood utilizes a simple setup of vintage analog synthesizers and drum machines, and records them on reel-to-reel. 'Pattern Completion' was originally planned as a 4 song cassette ep that was only released digitally. The A-side features remixed and remastered versions of the tracks from the ep. The B-side consists of 4 unreleased tracks, 2 of which are instrumental. The material on 'Pattern Completion' is strongly influenced by Michael's former live/work studio space in the Bayview District of San Francisco, an area surrounded by recycling facilities and water treatment plants. The songs reflect this industrial atmosphere, stacking treated rhythm box patterns, quivering synthesizers, and mechanical vocals. Each LP is housed in a jacket featuring photography by Melissa Joy Bernier and contains a double sided insert 11x11 with lyrics. 'Pattern Completion' develops the strain of futuristic, mutant industrial pioneered by San Francisco groups like Tuxedomoon and Factrix, with RedRedRed adding his own brand of damaged angular rhythms..

world in a tear

Artist : Bruta Non Calculant

Label : Cititrax

world in a tear / LP

New project by Alaxis Andreas G, the mastermind behind Le Syndicat Electronique and numerous other analog electronic, experimental and esoteric industrial folk projects. Alaxis formed Bruta Non Calculant in 2006 along with his brother Victor-Yann (De Frontanel). Their debut album, 'World In A Tear', presents 10 tracks drenched in a dark european atmosphere complete with a sound fully formed and heroically executed. Themes of death, lust and unrequited love are all bound in this brown book-esque collection. The songs occupy their own space and communicate in their own language and as such almost seem to have the ability to alter time once the listener has succumbed to their discordant beauty. An unsurprisingly impressive comeback, Bruta Non Calculant's debut album blends new wave elements with folkloric balladry impeccably, and approaches this with a modern sensibility. 'World In A Tear' is an elegant collection of seductive songs. Vinyl pressed on ultra clear 160gr housed in a matte full color printed sleeve limited to 999 copies..

Artist : Altres

Label : Dark Entries

archives / LP

Altres are a band from Dundee, Scotland who originally formed in 1983. They were playing mostly instrumental, improvised electronic music at a time when very few bands, if any, were making this type of music in the UK. The Altres' initial line-up was Jeremy Bryning (synths), Joseph Donnelly (synths), Kevin L. Guthrie (synths, sequencer, drum machine), Brian Hutton (synths, sequencer, vocoder), Mike Nelson (guitar) and Maurice Richardson (synths, sequencer, polysynth, drum machine). The band's influences included Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, Philip Glass, Throbbing Gristle, Faust and many others, but their sound is clearly their own. After a few months of recording the band had a lot of material on tape, so they decided to release their 1st cassette 'Rise' in 1984. Within that year the band managed to release 4 more cassettes: 'Live At The Tayside Bar', 'Archive One', 'Archive 2' and 'Angel Chords & Devil Chords'. The 'best' tracks from each of the cassettes have been chosen for this special 7 song compilation album entitled 'Archives'. Most Altres compositions begin with a sequence and a drum pattern. These wrap around arpeggiated synth pulses, and are accompanied by shrill feedback. Instruments used on the recordings include Casio MT40 Moog Prodigy, EDP Wasp, Roland SH-101, Casio VL-Tone, Korg MS20, MS50, SQ10 Poly-61, Ibanez guitar and vocoder. All of the instruments are fed through various effects and echo units. Everything is played and recorded live – there are no overdubs. The vinyl comes housed in a neon green jacket featuring the original design from the 'Rise' cassette by Mike Nelson. Each LP includes a photocopied clear acetate with notes from the band for each song. Prepare to get lost in the majestic, melancholic and melodic world of Altres.

one muscle to fall in love

7.49€

Artist : Achilles

Label : Stilleben

one muscle to fall in love / 12"

8-bit electro vibe and pulls out all the synths for an 8-bit battle. 6 trax of crazy beats and noises are available and the opener "Two Achilles In One" heads of with Sonic the Hedgehog synths and phat analogue basslines squelching away, joined by dark vocals making all sorts of weird and wondeful noises, a party-esque opener. The spannered manner of the synths holds all the character on this 12", almost stretching the notes and warbling them to extremes give’s the 12" a certain insane feel, check "Dancing Shadow" with its unforgettable bassline, a brilliant groove is eked out of the machines. Check !

Very talented Canadian musician Tona Ohama was 1st featured on 'The Found Tapes' compilation with "T.V." and then on 'The Minimal Wave Tapes: Volume 1' with "My Time (Demo)" and most recently on 'The Minimal Wave Tapes: Volume 2' with "The Drum", which was also selected and edited by J. Rocc. 'The Potato Farm Tapes' is an album of his early output, featuring some songs from his 1st cassette entitled 'Midnite News' and other rare tracks that only have only appeared on compilations thus far. This is the very best of these early tracks and release them cohesively as an album. The record is pressed on 180gr clear red vinyl accompanied by an in depth Ohama interview by Brandon Hocura printed on the inner sleeve. Limited to 999 hand-numbered copies..

Artist : Deutsche Wertarbeit

Label : Medical Records LLC

untitled / LP

Another superb reissue from Seattle's Medical Records, plucking Dorothea Raukes' 1981 album "Deutsche Wertarbeit" from krautrock obscurity and resissuing it on red vinyl in a limited run of 500 copies. Dorothea was in a tiny minority of German frauleins to work in krautrock circles, 1st with her Düsseldorf band Streetmark (she recorded 4 albums as their lead singerin between '76-'81) and later as a solo artist for Sky Records. She's responsible for all all the sounds on "Deutsche Wertarbeit", finding an endearing blend of sensibilities, from the rhythm driven pop of the NDW to the spacey textures and ambience of Klaus Schulze. Her canny melodic character shines through cheeseball keys of "Guten Abend, Leute", but doesn't shy away from darker tones like with "Unter Tage". Best of all is he proto-tranz glide of "Auf Engelsflügeln", which is pretty much worth the cost of entry alone, while the electric grey drama of "Intercity Rheingold" and "Der Gross Atem" seal the deal. Really feeling this..! REPRESS edition..

lonely streets remixes

Artist : Futurisk

Label : Cititrax

lonely streets remixes / 12"

Minimal Wave's sublabel Cititrax takes an old sound in a new direction entirely, giving electro-punk band Futurisk's classic "Lonely Streets", a modern shake-up through a remix package from current artists. The 1st remix by synth legend Chris Carter (aka Throbbing Gristle, Chris & Cosey), whose version is one that we would have dreamed of doing back in 1982. DFA artist Prince Language's version captures the feel of the song nicely with the use of all the stems, especially the real drum tracks that were part of Futurisk's signature sound, stirring up the no-wave styles that also influenced the band at the time. It is also a pleasure to hear Tom Furse's (aka The Horrors) Moroder-esque electro-punk take, sounding like a missing track from a late 70′s sci-fi flick. Finally UK Complexxion's track with the feel and approach of Arthur Baker, Martin Rushent, Daniel Miller and Kraftwerk of course, all of which were big influences on the members of Futurisk. Lovely surprise ;)

perfido incanto / 12"

Italian audio/visual artist Federico Leocata, born in 1987, releases here his 1st ep on WéMè in the WeMe313 series. Inspired and sponsored by Heinrich Mueller (aka Arpanet, Der Zyklus, Dopplereffekt), he creates an uncluttered and cold electro, totally honest and whole-hearted, flawless. Each song has a well defined role in the structure, leaning on a square rhythm, opppresive bass, frightening tunes, giving a futuristic and fantastic music as a result. This first record suggests a prolific future for this young artist. Tip !

This 2-men project from Brussels mixes a pulsating dark electro very much in the Invasion Planète style with ambitious, bitter-sweet lyrics in the best tradition of the French chansonniers. The fruit of this unholy union is not only deliciously refreshing but also terribly efficient, with just the right proportions of purpose and decadence. And I'm pretty sure you've never heard anything quite like this before... Definitely Recommended !

Label : Breakin' Records

mpc trax volume 10 / 12"

Detroit ghetto-tech legend Dj Disco D (Detroit Ghetto label) teams up with Mr EDMX for a lesson in how the "MPC Trax" had been intended to be played..with an insane onslaught of scratching, cutting and even plain old beat-mixing ! "Don’t Stop" is a slightly less frenetically paced electro track with a Detroit-style bassline & some oldschool synths & strings underpinning a selection of scratches & sound effects, with a devastating breakdown at half-time. "Mo Money", meanwhile, is a proper Miami bass crowd-pleaser combining hyped-up beats with a call & response vocal over some funky lead and bass synth sounds. Check !

mutual dreaming

21.49€

Artist : Innergaze

Label : Cititrax

mutual dreaming / LP

New music from Brooklyn based synth duo Innergaze. Their 2nd LP, 'Mutual Dreaming' is a highly anticipated release and we're ecstatic that the vinyl is finally out. Innergaze drag us slightly further back into the glorious cradle of dance music. Their music, crushed and static, obscured by sound. EBM, coldwave, early techno fight it out for dominance of the drum machine. Casually brutal vocals force their way through from the Death Factory. As if Chris & Cosey's dalliances with the Eurythmics had conjured a restless pioneering demon to duet with Annie Lenox but had instead ended up consuming her. Celestial synths coexisting with the industrial landscape bellow. Limited pressing of 999 copies on 160gr vinyl, housed in a high quality full color printed sleeve featuring a collaborative artwork concept by Veronica Vasicka and Aurora Halal. Awesome!

obsessions ep

13.99€

Artist : Passion Polka

Label : Anna Logue Records

obsessions ep / 12"

Passion Polka was an electronic pop outfit founded by Steve Cottier & Keith Leary in Liverpool, presenting here 4 classic analogue electro-pop tracks from 1982-1983 in the vein of Camera Obscura, OMD or Oppenheimer Analysis, featuring the Roland TR-808 drum machine and a little armada of the usual synthesiser suspects made by ARP, Korg, Roland and Yamaha. They only released the impossible-to-find 'Obsession / Juliet' 7" single back in 1982 on their own Kinetic Rekords label. These tracks are now available again on Anna Logue Records' 1st 12" ever, remastered by Marc Senasac and with an addition of 2 beautiful and and previously unreleased 1983 tracks "Lying Next To You" and "Fighting Alone" which feature Siobhan Maher on backing vocals. A must-have for all the aficionados of early 80's romantic electro-pop. Limited edition, 180g black vinyl with UV varnished sleeve with lyrics and DIN A2 poster..

sleeping city

14.49€

Artist : Intelligence Dept.

Label : Anna Logue Records

sleeping city / LP

'Sleeping City' is the highly anticipated and Anna’s 2nd release in co-operation with the Mannequin label from Rome. Intelligence Dept. were Davide Carlotti, Susanna Zaghi, Stefano Panzera and Gian Paolo Di Federico from Ferrara (Italy). They only ever officially released 3, yet totally amazing tracks on the 'A White Chance' Lp compilation in 1984 on White Studio Recording. These tracks were "Sleeping City", "Too Late To Love" and "Anger (Inside)". In 1985 they recorded a 2nd 4-track demo entitled 'The Big Trouble' but not many people seem to have known about its existence. Intelligence Dept.'s music is a unique blend of melancholic 80's electro-pop with dark/new-wave basses and saxophone action while being fronted by a powerful female vocalist, the lovely Susanna. Intelligence Dept. surely had a great potential to become a bigger or more successful band, but those were the times, like many others they faded into obscurity… but were not forgotten, so here we offer them and you a 2nd chance with the retrospective compilations of the band's works. The vinyl version features all 4 band's compositions from the 'Sleeping City' cassette and all 4 tracks from the 'The Big Trouble' cassette. Whaoh..

dans

16.29€

Artist : Kim Ki O

Label : Enfant Terrible

dans / 12"

The Turkish girl band Kim Ki O was already present on the Enfant Terrible compilation "Radio Resistencia". Next to that they released 2 very limited cd-r’s by themselves and already toured in Scandinavia. "Dans" is the official debut of Kim Ki O and features 6 lo-fi pop songs which at times are extremely catchy but never too easy or slick in anyway. At other times the music is more tranquil and becomes hypnotic dream pop that will soothe you, but hasn’t a single dull moment. Kim Ki O’s music is perfect lo-fi indie pop with that vibrant touch of the modern metropolis Istanbul they come from. Very evident are the New Order inspired melancholy melodies, the Casiotone For The Painfully Alone like cheap and charming electronic rhythms and that special 4AD sort of quality throughout the songs. With this debut mini album the band launches themselves into the world of music. Kim Ki O is for sure a band to keep an eye on.. ;)

18.49€

Artist : Sonnenbrandt

Label : Anna Logue Records

gestern / LP

This "Getsern" album is a co-production between the 3 labels : Anna Logue Records, Hertz-Schrittmacher and NLW, joining forces to help Sonnenbrandt finding their way onto the road to success, just because there's only few other contemporary act that deserves a wider audience than they do ! The band hails from Hamburg (Germany), was founded in 2003, and consists of Stefan Bornhorst (from The Silicon Scientist), Jojo Brandt (from Liquid Dreams) and his wife Sonja "Sonne" Brandt for lyrics & vocals. They perform the perfect mixture of early 80’s electro-pop and NDW, paired with German lyrics being entertaining in a funny way. The tunes are very catchy, melodic though with some darker melancholic undertones. “Gestern” closes a first chapter being a flashback compiling five years of recording songs. There’s no future without a past. On this album every song is a hit, made for you to sing along , and dance to. Also worth mentioning is a slight participation of Alain Seghir from Martin Dupont. Limited pressing of 500 copies...

momensch / 12"

The Human Shield Record Company spew forth a blocky gruel in the form of "Momensch", the latest release from electronic brothers, Multiplex. "Macao" kicks off the ep and whips up some serious foam while "My Synthesiser" merges that trademark electroid / idm crossover beautifully; great stuff. Next level melodies combined with back street drum surgery ask unanswerable questions. Closing track "Keep - X" winds things up nicely leaving you sweating and in need of a stiff drink and a roll up. So there you have it, the Human Shield Record Company once again steps in just in time to rescue the bloated hulk of electronic music. Try It ;)

sacred islands of the mad

16.99€

Artist : Nagamatzu

Label : Dark Entries

sacred islands of the mad / LP

Highly limited 2nd cassette by British duo Nagamatzu for the first time ever on vinyl. "Sacred Islands Of The Mad" is a collection of 11 tracks recorded between december 1984 and march 1986 in London by Andrew Lagowski on synths, guitar, and drum machines & Stephen Jarvis on synths, bass and programming. Nagamatzu began in 1982 after messing around with old tape machines and drum boxes, making numerous contributions to international compilations and erratically releasing their own cassettes. Their music reflects his influence and incorporates carefully chosen samples from the Challenger shuttle disaster, Gregorian chants and films including "Dawn Of The Dead" and "The Omen". All the songs were recorded onto a Ferrograph reel to reel in a small room at their parent's house and some of the backing rhythms and sequencers were recorded 1st onto cassette and then the band played along live. Nagamatzu’s instrumentals combine stuttering bass, guitar bursts and funeral keyboards draped over a dragging drum machine beat, calling to mind Clock DVA, Cabaret Voltaire and early New Order or Cocteau Twins. "Sacred Islands Of The Mad" is a complex, textured tapestry of sound full of dark electronics, fresh harmonies and danceable rhythms. All songs have been remastered especially for vinyl from the original cassette masters. Limited to 500 hand-numbered copies and including a newsprint zine full of fliers, gig tickets, ads, and photos.. Essential archive ;)

Interesting compilation released in 1990 with some forgotten songs from the 80's... Music in it is absolutely unpredictable, shifting from loops experiments with noises and voices (Cruel When Complete, Systema Scrotum), minimal electronics (Min Vän, Porslinshundens Vän, End...) to dementous synth-pop/ndw songs like Meddelande Fran Rymden by Injury wich could have been a track from Guyver's Connection... Honest, memorable, and sincere tracks for the home and for the dancefloor !
