Stripped electro kicks us off with the ever-so-short "Mnml 808" before the twisted chords of "Wake Up" lilt into position and produce a heartwarming mesh of electro, spinning MC’s, semi-scratches and a soulful b-line. "Pistrix Mix" is awesome; the sound of synths gone wrong and played badly, yet somehow emerging with a pure lushness of evocative melody and a superbly crunchy lazy beat. Totally wicked. "ATDT" on the flip ups the ante with an almost housey electro flash errrupting on all sides with analogue pressure. 8 tracks in total; varied, spot-on and predictably addictive hague madness. Extra large. Stinkworx is a real winner ;)

Track A2 is the exclusive Blake Baxter 2002 rework, pumped up even more and, with the release date coinciding the Berlin Love Parade 2002, it not only kept that summer guaranteed hot and wet for everyone but keeps infecting us over and over again... Bran released 2 very limited artifacts on cd and in this tradition we now present the vinyl debut of this act. When it comes to the music Bran serves the fans of minimal synth for sure but don’t be surprised to come across some uncommon style elements too. This 7" is more of an artifact as a record as it comes with a booklet with drawings by the musician and hand printed covers with 2 different designs (also by the musician himself). Next to that the labels are hand stamped with self designed stamps. As this record is ultra limited to only 2 times 75 copies (75 copies of each cover design) it is bound to become a real collector piece very soon...

After the release of "Horizons of Suburbia" in summer 2005, Camera Obscura definitely wanted to enter the stage again after more than 20 years of stage absence. They were invited to play at a small minimal electro festival called "Alles In Einem" ("All In One") in Hannover (Oct 8th 2005), together with the German projects Sickdoll and Solitude FX. Peter and Nigel performed a fully professional set with lots of love, enthusiasm and fun. 8 tracks from this show were chosen to be released on this vinyl album for those who were there and for those who were not. "Vincent Van Gogh" and "Fever Pitch" are yet unheard newly recorded versions. Performing the then totally unknown "Moving The Mercury" eventually led to the release of the 7". This live album has captured some of the great moments of the party. Limited to 400 copies !

Repress. The original Crazy Gang album got released in 1983, 2 of the stand out tracks have been taken from it for this 12", remastered and extended. Produced by Claudio Simonetti (some of the most memorable italo-disco productions and one of the founding members of cult-horror band Goblin), along with 2 fellow Goblin members (Walter Martino and Massimo Morante). "Every Sunday" is a unique blend of horror-disco and robot electro. Deep vocoders in contrast with the child chorus turn this into a dark and intense track, surely one of Simonetti's most electronic productions and an obvious wink to his Goblin background. The original recording has been extended to 8 minutes, exclusive to this 12". "Telephone Computer" is a quirky electronic disco track with a bassline that sounds almost like EBM, which still has a very modern feel to it. Includes the original album version plus a more Dj and dancefloor friendly edit. Delicious italo electro !

Nice 7" single from 1985; "My Heart Goes Bang" is a vicious electro-fuelled, six cylinder dance generator with some great rock guitar thrown in for good measure. While it does tend to sound dangerously disposable at moments, the key changes, pumping chorus, not to mention Pete Burns' flamboyant vocals, are its saving grace ;)

Former member of Swedish industrial cult band Njurmännen, Lina Baby Doll (aka Peter Andersson) set up his own musical project in 1991. Inspired by the classic Amon Düül II song of the same name, Deutsch Nepal started with a deep and fascinating industrial ambient sound, enriched by hypnotic rhythms, voice samples and repetitive structures. Through this 10", Deutsch Nepal has evolved his sound into a deep dark ambient music. Both tracks are quite similar, rather calm.. The sound here is more ethnic & organic than strictly industrial.. Nice one !

That collective of various individuals surrounding master mind Servando Carballar from Madrid (Spain), were the masters of minimal electro pop & techno pop ! No wonder that out of this collective also the cult rhythmic industrial group Esplendor Geometrico did evolve. Anyway, Aviador Dro was incredible synth sound and ideas, most brilliant drum machine programming and those beautiful and melodic Spanish male vocals. This newly issued 2lp rerelease features their output from 1982 which were most probably best records : the "Alas Sobre El Mundo" lp, the "Nuclear, Sí" 7", and the "Programa En Espiral" 12". No doubt : this music belongs to any music collection. Must-have limited to 500 copies !

"New Deal" is an ace collection of oldschool electro (think of Drexciya & Dopplereffekt), techno and house with that all important braindance ingredient to fry the kids minds. 12 tracks cut on 12" and 7" that kicks off with the Jamie Principle vibed electro cut "Baby Wants To Ride", dark and brooding electro with classic dirt-rave basslines and sleazy vocal drops. "Eastern Promise" opens to a flurry of arcade firepower blips before the TR-808 drums kick in. Melodies straight from the irdial school and some well freestyle drum programming. "Black On White" drops the house energy, percolating light acid basslines fight with the 808's full range of presets, the all important cowbell taking centre stage. On the 7", Kelly is aided and abetted all the way by vocalist Linda Lovelace, 4 tracks spannered in the best way, jungle breakbeat 2step rave pop anthems one and all,"Up & Down, Up & Down" being the standout. Having previously released two 12"s on Ed-DMX's Breakin' label a release at last on his true home Rephlex is long overdue. In addition, the cover makes play with some late 80's hardcore b-boy style, reminding me of Chris Morris' parody on "The Day Today" as Fur-Q. Top value fun for all the freaks and a classic reminiscathon for us old'uns. Mental essential. ;)

Cool Italian dudes Avant! recently released a 7” by German Cassetten 82/Hot Wave outfit Krysmopompas. The A-side, "Gesa", is a line drawing of the graceful movements traced on the dusty floor of an abandoned hall by a mechanical bride and an electrical groom as they orbit around each other in their clockwork ballet while a crooning ghost dressed in an ill-fitting tuxedo provides dada admonitions from his pulpit. It sounds grainy, derelict, metallic and forsakenly beautiful like all the best German post-punk. Tip !!

Kuruki was a Belgian minimal synth-pop band project spearheaded by Ghent based musician Gerry D'Haeyer and Alain Bureau. The band was founded early 80's and shortly after it's conception a 1st release was recorded. The single "Crocodile Tears" immediately hit the charts and became cult. Afterwards the band released 12" including maxi single "Such A Liar". After intensive touring a new single "Just A Cat" was spawned in 1983. As a live band at that time Alan Gevaert, from dEUS, and Chris Whitley joined them. Live, Kuruki put down a mysterious act, with a lot of colour & show elements. In 1984 the final release "TV Scape", a full lp, was released. On this record the last pieces of the puzzle fitted together. On an accurately crafted structure of frivolous minimal electronics Sally Joy & Monsieur Tic sang about an era wherein alienation & mass consumption are an everyday routine & television offers the ideal escape. The lp is remastered at the Equus masteringstudios & is pressed on 160gr quality vinyl. Essential..!

Falling into the sub-genre known as "cold wave", this 7" is an absolutely gorgeous re-interpretation of what 80's goth was. The lyrics are dark. They croon mournfully over minimal guitar and sparse, simple touches of synths and drums. It really sounds like this trio were born of that post-punk scene that spawned such morbid romantics as Siouxsie, Robert Smith and Peter Murphy. Although I've made a lot of references to things already firmly established with worn welcomes, there's something about the warmth of vocals and the minimalism of the guitar that makes it feel like a new take on the old. Whaoh !!

Philadelphia based Ian Pullman and Clay Emerson have put together a pretty tight 2 track 7" in "Nomon / Schoen". "Schoen" rolls quickly into a layer of nimble rhythm and dark, electrical moans. The rhythm drops out for a breathy throat rumble or two, cutting back in heartrending synth sweeps and resolute bassline. On the B-Side, "Nomon" is a little more laid back : a soft, bassy, bleepy techno arrangement that brings the synth in and out to a dramatic crescendo, a track much in the vein of the beated ambience on Aphex Twin's "Selected Ambient Works II". Really tasty !

Finally! The vinyl debut of Low Red Center ! Originally a studio project, in 2004 Low Red Center morphed into an improvised group. Containing members of Voxtrot, Oblong Boys, Pataphysics, Spoon, NanoBangBang, and other Austin bands, LRC staged shows that involved heavy costuming, theater, dance, and, of course, music. Eventually, many of these improvised pieces were molded into songs. While their sound centers around electronics, to call them a minimal synth band or electronica or post-punk is selling them short. Low Red Center not only have a great sound, but they have great songs, and a couple of ace singers. Influenced by Cluster, John Foxx, Tuxedomoon, Bruce Haack, Crash Course in Science, Silver Apples, Raymond Scott, and Goblin, you can also hear Relando & the Loaf, Devo, the Plastics and others in their sound, which ultimately they've made their own. Excellent new generation ;)

Morgan Geist’s 2nd Environ Unclassics voyage features a pair of back-to-back 80's gems from 2 very different worlds : the A-side once a commercial chart hit in Italy, the B-side an obscure underground electro track via Canada. According to it’s producer Pino Massara, between 1980 and 1985 the vocal hit "Margherita" by Margueritas sold nearly 2 million copies. However, it was the instrumental version that was steeped in a funky, underground italo-disco sound. Sampled into several house tracks in the last decade, the synth-hooked instrumental is featured here, lightly re-edited to extend the fantastic intro. Back to 1980 and a continent away in Canada, a Quebecois producer hiding behind the alias Pluton & the Humanoids was attempting to emulate Giorgio Moroder's electronic epics. Thankfully, he failed, instead creating one of the quirkiest electronic disco numbers ever heard : "World Invaders". This vocodered wonder featured on I-f's legendary "Mixed Up In The Hague" mix CD and has until now been nearly impossible to find. Its haunting melodies will stir the hearts and hips of true electro aficionados worldwide ! Check.

Professor X (aka Arabian Prince) was still involved in this one. Must have !

Oppenheimer Analysis (aka Martin Lloyd & Andy Oppenheimer) recorded "Radiance" in 1982 after meeting each other at a UK science-fiction convention. Mark Lane is a solo artist from Ventura (USA), who has been making music since the 70's and recorded this track "Who's Really Listening" in 1984. 2 masterpieces in 1 record ;)

Originally the Poésie Noire had 7 members, but soon there were only 3, Johan Casters, Marianne Valvekens & Herman Gillis. On this 7", the band delivered us an imaginative stroll through cinematic music, where the keyboards gently peck at you and the rhythm flutters its eyelids...

They recorded the 3 records "Rheingold", "R." and "Dis-Tanz". Their biggest hits were "Dreiklangsdimensionen" and "FanFanFanatisch" but this more unknown single deserves also attention. Nice minimal synth-pop ;)

Section 25 were formed in Blackpool (UK) in November 1977. Initially they were a duo, consisting of brothers Larry Cassidy (bass, vocals) and Vincent Cassidy (drums). In June 1978 they made their live debut, and in November were joined by guitarist Paul Wiggin. In 1985, a single, "Crazy Wisdom", was released on Factory Benelux as a 12". The other tracks on the ep are "Dirty Disco", a reworking of a song on the album "Always Now", and "The Guitar Waltz". Initially the single was planned as a 7" on Factory Records (FAC 132) but was shelved. Once again, the harder electronic sound developed on this single, was continued with the appointment of Bernard Sumner and Donald Johnson as producers 5New Order). Classic electro synth wave. Original pressing ;)
