new mexico ep

Artist : Oppenheimer Analysis

Label : Minimal Wave

new mexico ep / 12"

Andy Oppenheimer, a science editor from UK and Martin Lloyd of Analysis formed this duo in the early 80's. This twelve-inch four track EP originally taken from various tapes reminds us the early Human League with their strong synth-melodies (Radiance). Lyrics are well-thought-out, incisive and provocative (Cold War)... and at the opposite Andy dives us into a futuristic and new romantic mood with the cult "Devil's Dancers" track. To complete our pleasure this 12" contains a beautiful poster including the lyrics. 4th repress edition...

Artist : Sluik

Label : Minimal Wave

Label : Minimal Wave

dark life / LP

Active from 1984-1991, Pavillon 7b were a synthy cold wave band from Dijon, where not too long ago the master tape for their first cassette entitled Overdose (1985) was found. The "Dark Life" LP released on the great label from New-York "Minimal Wave" consists of the tracks from the tape and other selections: amazing, previously unreleased tracks that were also recovered. Limited to 500 numbered copies with "special" insert.

Artist : Somnambulist / M. Bryo

Label : Minimal Wave

split / 7"

A split 7" between Somnambulist and M. Bryo. Described as "one-man, new wave synth" bands, these projects were a part of the emerging new music scene in Belgium in the early 80's. Other related bands from that era include: Absolute Body Control, The Klinik, OB Minimax, Quality-T and Vita Noctis. All three tracks were created spontaneously; resulting in beautiful, minimal, analog synth recordings. Thanks to Central Tapes (BE) for the initial impetus to release these. Limited to 500 copies with insert.

the art of being

Artist : Ensemble Pittoresque

Label : Minimal Wave

the art of being / LP

NYC's own synth reissue label, Minimal Wave, knocks another one out of the park with this great release of unissued material by Ensemble Pittoresque. E.P. were formed in 1979 and immediately began recording in their house in coastal Holland. This LP presents recordings from 1982 they submitted as a cassette to Polydor, who of course found the material "too uncommercial." Most songs feature layers and layers of keyboard harmonies and excellent drum machine programming. The vocals have that classic "detached" sound we've all come to expect and love from this kind of music. Highly recommended !

the found tapes

In 1982, they released the “Dreadful Dance” 7” and the “This is Future” LP, both recorded and produced by Ton Willekes from Ensemble Pittoresque. “Europe Calls” is great and danceable minimal dark electropop track, very simple with TR-808, sequencer driven synth and female vocals reminiscent of X-mal Deutschland or Malaria, so perfect for your dark wave disco dancefloors. “Radio Lines” is also very minimal, dark, slow, threatening, with guitar and vocal experimentation... Limited to 500 copies and come with a photo from 1985. Unmissable.

Aside from the single, Graham released several LP's in the early 80's, one called 'Alluma', a pure analogue synth soundtrack style lp. moderne / l

Artist : Moderne

Label : Minimal Wave

moderne / l'espionne aimait la musique / 2x12"

Limited edition double lp release of Moderne's : Moderne (1980) & L'Espionne Aimait La Musique (1981), remastered from the original analog reels and housed in a matte laminate gatefold jacket with a poster featuring an interview, and band photo. Moderne was a minimal synth-pop band formed in Tours (France), in 1979. After releasing 2 albums & 2 singles between 1980-1981, nothing was heard from Moderne aside from "Switch On Bach" (released on the compilation So Young But So Cold). Moderne remains notoriously hidden in the past, and their albums and singles have become collectors items. The albums were mixed by Joschko Rudas and Henning Schmitz at Studio Rudas Düsseldorf, the same studio Kraftwerk used for Man Machine (1978). The production is exceptional. This is French new-wave at its best. Tip !!!

Artist : In Aeternam Vale

Label : Minimal Wave

untitled / LP

The 4th release of the serie to celebrate Minimal Wave's 4 Year Anniversary is a full length album by cult French band In Aeternam Vale. Having made over 200 recordings, I.A.V. were one of the most prolific bands of the French underground scene. Headed by Laurent Prot and featuring Pascal Aubert, the band released many cassettes illustrated with Laurent's wonderful collage work. Their sound is extremely original, overflowing with character, and crossing between genres : electro, minimal, noise, and even garage. With the passing of time, In Aeternam Vale's work remains astonishingly powerful, cold and caustic with its uncompromising minimalism, but also provocative and capable to smash your ass on the dancefloor. The record is pressed on 180 gram clear vinyl and comes in a heavyweight matte jacket with cover artwork by Laurent. Already cult !!!

Artist : Das Ding

Label : Minimal Wave

h.s.t.a. / LP

A full length album by Dutch electro pioneer, Das Ding. Das Ding is Danny Bosten, who was active in the early 80's releasing his music and friends music via his own cassette label called Tear Apart Tapes. While studying graphic design in art school, he designed all the tape covers himself. Meanwhile, he recorded his own music as Das Ding. Powerful dark electro, some tracks are quite addictive and danceable while others are more for at home listening enjoyment. The dancefloor killer is somewhere between "Reassurance Ritual" and "H.S.T.A.". The record features lovingly remastered tracks, and is pressed on 180 gram vinyl with a printed inner sleeve featuring Danny's drawings... Repress ;)

decadence / LP

Full length lp by French duo Deux (aka Gérard Pelletier & Cati Tete), who formed after meeting in Lyon in 1981. Their music can be described as minimal-synth with stripped down rhythm compositions and suitably cold duets. Their influences are a perfect blend of Kraftwerk and French synth-pop. Between 1983 and 1992, they released a cassette and several rare singles. This "Decadence" lp features selections of their old material, newly remastered. 2017 hand numbered 3rd edition pressing. Reverse side of sleeve is lined in sky blue.. TIP !!!

Artist : Martin Lloyd

Label : Minimal Wave

l'amant electronique / 7"

Minimal Wave presents us an exquisite 7" release by Martin Lloyd entitled "L'Amant Electronique". Martin is mainly known for his Oppenheimer Analysis project, yet through the years he recorded over 2 dozen tracks on his own, most of which never saw the light of day. The 4 selected tracks were recorded between 1980 and 1984 in his own "Feedback Studios" in Battersea, London. Martin Lloyd delivers vocals via the vocoder and carefully layers synth melodies which range from upbeat and danceable, to what could be the soundtrack to a 1981 post-apocalyptic science fiction film. The record is pressed on white vinyl with a heavy black jacket (spot gloss) and is limited to 999 hand-numbered copies. Very Nice ;)

player piano

Artist : Futurisk

Label : Minimal Wave

player piano / LP

Here is the long awaited 30th anniversary release by Futurisk. Originally from Florida, Futurisk was a pioneering electro-punk group that recorded and performed in the pre-midi era of the early 80's. They had 2 vinyl releases on 7" : "The Sound Of Futurism 1980 / Army Now" and the "Player Piano ep". They played a legendary live show and had some TV appearances, but for a number of reasons by 1984 Futurisk was history. The "Player Piano" lp culls material they recorded between 1980 & 1982, featuring all the tracks from their two 7" releases as well as some early 4 track tapes and rare studio recordings. The record is pressed on 180 gram vinyl, comes in a matte printed innersleeve (with old photos and press) and orange matte outer jacket.. Very nice, as usual on MW !!

the art dance

Artist : Ruins

Label : Minimal Wave

the art dance / LP

Full length Lp by Ruins, an Italian electro-wave duo. Ruins formed in Mestre in 1978 with the intention of experimenting with electronic devices and mixed media. They mainly created music out of self-expression without any intention of joining the mainstream. They were interested in multimedia and had a strong visual aesthetic apparent via their album art, videos and projections. The classic hit "Fire" is one of our favorites to date, so powerful with its great energy and beautiful production. It’s where italo meets minimal-wave. This Lp entitled "The Art Dance" features a collection of songs, some previously released, others never released before (amongst them a dub version of "Sexual Desire" called "Pure Desire"), pressed on 180gram vinyl and housed in a glossy gatefold jacket lined with the band's history and photos. Essential..!

This one won't be pressed again...

Artist : Autumn

Label : Minimal Wave

synthesize / LP

The 27th release on Minimal Wave is Autumn's 'Synthesize' LP, selections from the band's best material. Autumn was the legendary project of Peter Bonne and Geert Coppens, 2 Belgian teenagers who started experimenting with the potentials of analog synthesizers during the late 70's and formed a band together soon after in 1980, quickly becoming one of the most truly visionary groups to emerge from the synth scene in Europe. The album is titled after their "Synthesize" single which was recorded along with its b-side "The Third Autumn" in 1981 in a professional 24 track studio in only 7 hours. Both songs became modest summer hits in Belgian dance clubs in 1982, and the release been highly sought after ever since. Considering how young Autumn were when they recorded these songs, the production is very impressive. These multi-layered synth-pop gems are catchy, danceable and definitely ahead of their time. "I Say You Hello" has been described as an amazing piece of synth music with insanely catchy vocals, an incredible bass line and some mind-melting analog patterns. Essential 2014 repress in translucent green vinyl !

the hidden tapes

Artist : Various

Label : Minimal Wave

the hidden tapes / LP

New Minimal Wave compilation with lost tracks from around the world recorded between 1979 to 1985. 'The Hidden Tapes' features rare, unreleased, and licensed tracks from as far as Japan and the former Yugoslavia. Most of the bands on this compilation recorded on 4-track tape in their bedroom studios while two of them went further to collaborate by sending tapes through the mail. The sounds on this record range from raw proto-industrial to naive danceable Belgradian new-wave, to filmic synthesizer music to more complex, vocal-driven melodic synth-pop. Limited edition of 999 numbered copies, pressed on 180 gram vinyl, and housed in heavy printed jacket accompanied by printed inner jacket with photos and info. Repress ;)

Artist : Philippe Laurent

Label : Minimal Wave

hot-bip / LP

Full length Lp by French mastermind Philippe Laurent. This album is entitled 'Hot-Bip', a pseudonym Laurent used throughout the 80s and 90s and also the title of his 1983 cassette on Fraction Studio. 'Hot-Bip' features tracks recorded between 1979-1988, most of which have either remained unreleased or only previously appeared on scarce 80's experimental cassette compilations. Laurent's music can be described as spacey synth-pop, containing much depth and range. It is edgy, political and pushes the limits, transforming his sound beyond one specific genre. Hints of classical influences as well as electro influences can be heard. 'Hot-Bip' showcases Laurent's best musical output from the 80's and includes some very avant-garde pieces from as early as 1979. A limited edition of 999 hand-numbered copies, this LP is pressed on 180 gram, translucent red vinyl and housed in a black and white matte printed heavyweight sleeve. Tip..!

cities of steel and neon

Artist : In Trance 95

Label : Minimal Wave

cities of steel and neon / LP

'Cities Of Steel And Neon' is a compilation of early tape recordings by Greek electronic pioneers In Trance 95. In Trance 95 was formed by Alex Machairas and Nik Veliotis when they were just 18 years old. From its inception, the duo shaped their sound using portable analogue synthesizers and drum machines, becoming one of the 1st artists in the minimal synth / coldwave / EBM vein to come out of Greece in the 80's. They released 2 singles, 1 12", and 1 album as well as appearing on several compilations at the time. Now for the 1st time ever, songs from their vast archive of unreleased 4-track tape recordings have been made available. 'Cities Of Steel And Neon' features material recorded between 1988-1989: the unreleased 4-track recordings, the highly lauded 1st single "Desire To Desire / Brazilia", and a rare version of "21st Century European Temptation". The LP, an edition of 999 hand-numbered copies, is pressed on 180gram black vinyl and housed in a matte jacket with semi-gloss inner sleeve depicting 1989 video stills of the the duo. Nice one ;)

Artist : Pas De Deux

Label : Minimal Wave

cardiocleptomanie / LP

Belgian pop trio, best known for their participation in the 1983 Eurovision song contest. The group was formed in 1982 by Walter Verdin joined by Hilde Van Roy and Dett Peyskens. They released 2 LP's and several singles along with some incredible video work produced by Verdin himself. Stylistically, their music is a bit post-punk and completely new-wave with vocals reminiscent of the indie girl bands of the late 70's and early 80's. The slower tracks are quite dreamy, repetitive and hypnotic. The title track "Cardiocleptomanie" has been described as "a 'less is more' sum composed of drum machine, wood blocks and bongos, a few tasty minimal synth lines, and an overlay of repetitive female vocals that touch a Krafwerkian harmonic nerve". The 'Cardiocleptomanie' LP gathers the best of Pas De Deux's newly remastered studio recordings and presents them as an edition of 999 hand-numbered copies on 180gram blue vinyl. The record is housed in a printed inner jacket and spot color printed outer jacket with band photo and song credits. Essential !!

Artist : Sympathy Nervous

Label : Minimal Wave

automaticism / LP

Sympathy Nervous is the project of Japanese artist Yosihumi Niinuma. Influenced by both classical and Krautrock, he began recording in 1979, and released several records on the highly coveted Vanity label. He continued to record and self-release much of his work throughout the 80's and 90's. His sound is intelligent and probably the most unique minimal synth to come out of Japan. Exploring dystopian themes, his music is well balanced and beautifully recorded. 'Automaticism' features songs Yosihumi Niinuma recorded between 1979-81. Most were originally slated for a cassette release but never saw the light of day until now. When the Tsunami washed away the coast of Japan last March 2011, Niinuma lost everything: an entire lifetime of recordings, instruments, hand built sequencers, and even his home. Fortunately, he had sent us his audio masters prior to the disaster. This release is fully dedicated to him, in memory of all his lost recordings. The record is pressed on 180gram ultra clear vinyl and comes in a printed heavy clear sleeve, with Niinuma's account of what happened on that day of March 11, 2011 and the months that followed. This is a benefit album, all the proceeds go to the artist. Tip!!

orgelvärk / 2x12"

Newly remastered vinyl edition of the cult Swedish cassette compilation 'Orgelvärk'. Compilation of Swedish synth-pop, experimental and industrial music representative of the underground tape scene that thrived there in the 80's. Many of the bands didn't quite fit into one particular genre, and most remained unknown. They lived in small villages and were making what can be described as electronic folk music. 'Orgelvärk' was originally compiled and released on cassette in 1986 by Tor Sigvardson, also known for his own musical project 18:e Oktober and cassette label Neuköln. This vinyl edition includes 5 previously unreleased tracks which were submitted to Tor for the original 1986 cassette release but due to space limitations, never made it on there. All 24 songs have been remastered from their original tapes especially for vinyl by Tor himself. Limited edition of 999 hand-numbered copies, double LP pressed on 160gram vinyl and presented in a matte gatefold jacket with a letter from Tor accompanied by further information on the bands. Be fast on this one ;)

Artist : Schedelvreter

Label : Minimal Wave

hunker / 10"

Here is a limited edition hand-silkscreened 10" of Schedelvreter, the Dutch side project of brilliant minimal synth pioneer Danny Bosten (aka Das Ding). The 7 tracks were originally recorded in Danny's home studio in the Netherlands and self-released on a cassette entitled 'Hunker' via his Tear Apart Tapes label in 1985. Unlike Das Ding, Schedelvreter is not pattern-based or sequenced, the synth sounds are hand played over a collage of found sounds. At the time, Danny was experimenting with a Crumar synth that was falling apart, and would sporadically create sounds that were like human voices. He created massive drum sounds by layering noise, using leftover 4-track additions in reverse and some live drum recordings courtesy of his brother's tapes. The end result feels narrative and filmic, like the soundtrack to an imaginary apocalyptic movie: bleak & desolate. Be fast to grab this limited to 999 hand-silkscreened numbered copies pressed on black medium weight vinyl ;)

Artist : In Aeternam Vale

Label : Minimal Wave

dub / LP

2nd volume of selections from our French favorites, In Aeternam Vale. Culled from a vast archive of recordings, these tracks were originally self-released on various cassettes by the band's frontman Laurent Prot between 1985-1988. The sound ranges from early EBM / industrial to gristly cold-wave to dark reverby guitar psychedelia. This record illustrates the stylistic range that, through experimentation and fearlessness, Laurent Prot and Pascal Aubert were capable of producing. Limited edition pressing of 999 hand-numbered copies, housed in matte heavy weight printed sleeve and black paper innersleeve. Whaoh..!

clean tables have to be burnt

Artist : Hard Corps

Label : Minimal Wave

clean tables have to be burnt / LP

Full length LP release entitled 'Clean Tables Have To Be Burnt' by UK legends Hard Corps, a band we've been long time admirers of. Aside from their releases on Survival and Polydor, Hard Corps gained some notoriety for their unique and uncompromising live shows throughout the 80's. It was the juxtaposition between their hard edged industrial sound and the fragile and enigmatic vocals of French frontwoman Regine Fetet that created an unusual dichotomy, lending to their strength of character as a band and thus allowing them to stand out from the rest. The band went on a major tour with The Cure in 1985 and Depeche Mode in 1988, before finally disintegrating. Now for the 1st time ever, rare unreleased versions of Hard Corps tracks from the 80's have been remastered and are being made available. 'Clean Tables Have To Be Burnt' is a 180gr vinyl pressing limited to 999 copies with double sided inner sleeve featuring a beautiful group shot and all of Regine's lyrics. HUGE !!!

teenage tapes

Artist : Felix Kubin

Label : Minimal Wave

teenage tapes / LP

Selections from the early tape archives of Felix Kubin. The recordings span his adolescent years, when he was between 11 and 15 years old. He actually began playing music at 8 years old, when he studied piano, organ, and glockenspiel. In 1980, he acquired a Korg MS-20 synthesizer and his recordings took off from there. He began experimenting and recording a variety of tracks, adding his own bizarre lyrics to them. In 1982, he formed a band with Stefan Mohn called Die Egozentrischen 2. In 1984, they played a legendary live show at the Möbel Perdú in Hamburg, a small multifunctional gallery founded in the early 80's by a.o. Claudia Schneider-Esleben, who happened to be the sister of Florian Schneider (Kraftwerk). They were only 15 years old. Although Alfred Hilsberg of the notorious ZickZack label (Palais Schaumburg, Die Toedliche Doris, Einstuerzende Neubauten) had planned to release Felix Kubin's early music in 1985, it took another 20 years until the French label SKIPP and the German label A-Musik put out a selection of tracks for the 1st time. The press was raving about Felix's music which gave rise to an increase in his popularity: Who could fail to be impressed by the mostly unheard cassette rebellion of this slightly nerdy looking pre-teen, nicely dressed by his mum with not a safety pin in sight, the only difference between his and a 100 other synthetic pre-pubescent bedroom outbursts that must have been occurring right across Europe is two words 'mad' and 'genius'. Pressed on 180gr black vinyl, printed on a heavy matte sleeve and presented with an innersleeve of drawings and lyrics in both German and English text. 6 of the 12 tracks on this album have never been released before. Hand numbered edition of 999. Must-Have!

Rocc. 'The Potato Farm Tapes' is an album of his early output, featuring some songs from his 1st cassette entitled 'Midnite News' and other rare tracks that only have only appeared on compilations thus far. This is the very best of these early tracks and release them cohesively as an album. The record is pressed on 180gr clear red vinyl accompanied by an in depth Ohama interview by Brandon Hocura printed on the inner sleeve. Limited to 999 hand-numbered copies..

'The Plastic Love' album features songs Yosihumi Niinuma recorded between 1979-1980. These were originally recorded as studio demos and have never been released until now. The album is a follow up to 'Automaticism', which has been released last year as benefit record to help Niinuma cope with the loss of his home and studio after the great east Japan earthquake of march 2011. Stylistically, these particular songs range from proto-techno tracks like "Anatawa Suguni" (1980) to post-punk ones like "Untitled 1" (1979) to a pure synth-pop masterpiece from 1980 called "Butoubyou No Syounen" featuring his wife on vocals. Pressed on 180gr white vinyl..

golden dreams

Artist : Deux

Label : Minimal Wave

golden dreams / 12"

12"ep by the lovely French synth-wave duo known as Deux. Gérard Pelletier & Cati Tete formed Deux shortly after meeting in Lyon in 1981. Their music can be described as minimal-synth with stripped down rhythm compositions and suitably cold duets. A perfect blend of archetypal Kraftwerkian pop and French synth, these set of songs comprise their later years (1985) and stylistically sound like classic house combined with the romance of new-wave. This ep features previously unreleased newly remastered studio and demo tracks. Pressed on 180gr gold vinyl, limited to 999 hand-numbered copies..

la piscine

Artist : In Aeternam Vale

Label : Minimal Wave

la piscine / 12"

2nd 12" single from our French favorites, In Aeternam Vale. This one is in the same vein as the 'Dust Under Brightness / Highway Dark Veins' 12". The single features an epic, pioneering, late 80's underwater techno masterpiece called "La Piscine" (1989) accompanied by a slow, dark, drugged out 15 minute number on the flip side entitled "Calling Somewhere" (1990) – which sounds especially relevant today. Neither of these tracks have ever been released before. The pressing is limited to 999 copies, here pressed on 160gr black standard vinyl, accompanied by a hand-numbered matte printed sleeve. Pheeew!

Artist : DZ Lectric & Anthon Shield

Label : Minimal Wave

lickin' / LP

Early 80's ritualistic minimal electronics by French duo DZ Lectric + Anthon Shield. The songs are selections from their 1985 cassette release, 'Confessions D’Un Masque'. Having been active in their respective projects, the duo came together naturally in 1981 and over the years began recording music together. They shared a similar philosophical outlook and love of music, from classic rock like The Velvet Underground and The Stooges, to the edgier, industrial and no wave stuff that was coming out at the time, bands like Throbbing Gristle, Suicide, and Tuxedomoon. They performed a number of times at special venues and festivals in Europe, creating intense and engaging live performances with minimum equipment and an abundance of spirit. They also released many tapes throughout the 80's. Their music is challenging and hypnotic. Brutal and aggressive at times, overall the message speaks more about human ritual than anything truly sinister. All the songs on the 'Lickin' LP have been remastered from their original reel to reel tapes. The vinyl is presented in a matte heavy printed sleeve featuring a documentary photograph of the duo performing live at the DMA2 Festival in 1986, with a matching printed inner sleeve featuring a more posed portrait. The record is pressed on 180gr black vinyl, and limited to 999 hand-numbered sleeves.

earlier / later

Artist : Polyphonic Size

Label : Minimal Wave

earlier / later / LP

Selections from the prolific Belgian synth-pop band Polyphonic Size. Headed by Roger-Marc Vande Voorde, Polyphonic Size formed in 1979. In December of that year, they released their 1st record, the 'Algorhythmic ep' on Sandwich Records, an independent label founded by Michel Lambot. After a 2nd ep (Pragmatic Songs), Roger-Marc got in touch with Jean-Jacques Burnel, who offered to produce the next single, "Nagasaki Mon Amour". This 1st musical collaboration was followed by many others, including an outrageous and robotic cover of the Rolling Stones’ classic, "Mother’s Little Helper". After several line-up changes, the band finally consisted of Roger-Marc Vande Voorde (vocals, guitar, keyboards, electronics), Kloot Per W (bass, vocals), Martine Bourlée (vocals, percussions) and France Lhermitte (vocals, percussions). Dominique Buxin wrote nearly all the lyrics, but never appeared live on stage or on any record sleeve. Although Polyphonic Size and JJ Burnel were very close to each other, the band always kept its own personality, which was less dark and more European than the Stranglers. The 'Earlier / Later' LP are remastered selections, curated mainly from Polyphonic Size's early output as a band, from when they formed in 1978 to when they began working with JJ Burnel in 1980. The tracks on side A represent their early period were recorded between 1978-1980 and the side B tracks, recorded between 1980-1982, are representative of how their sound evolved whilst working with a producer. The LP is pressed on transparent red 180gr vinyl, housed in a heavy printed sleeve with text overlay printed on a clear vinyl outer sleeve, and limited to 999 hand-numbered copies.

unreal personality

Artist : The Actor

Label : Minimal Wave

unreal personality / 7"

The Actor is a well known but simultaneously quite obscure minimal wave project that emerged from the Dutch home taping scene of the early 80's. The duo was formed by Marcel Reimer (vocals, keyboards) and Sander Horsthuis (keyboards) in Breda, The Netherlands in late 1981. Influences were DAF, Soft Cell, Depeche Mode and Fad Gadget. Guitars were no option, "because the amplifiers would mar the stage". The Actor caught the attention of cult cassette label Trumpett through their powerful live act and were signed to the label in April 1982. Their 1st, self-produced album was released in September 1982 as 'Exploded View' (an exploded view of a cassette tape was featured on the sleeve): 10 quite simply arranged synth-pop tracks that were dynamic and danceable, with lyrics sung both in English and German, relating to the modern world, fashion, dancing, fame, appearance and self-image. The edition of 400 copies sold out within 6 months. The track featured on this flexi-disc, "Unreal Personality", is the opening track of 'Exploded View' and the archetypical The Actor song, with lyrics directly referring to the band's name. The song was recorded during the summer of 1982. The music and lyrics were written by Marcel Reimer. The song was played and produced by Marcel Reimer and Sander Horsthuis. The equipment they used was the Korg MS-20, Crumar Performer, Casio VL-Tone, and Soundmaster SR-88 drum machine. It has been remastered from its original analog source tape for best possible sound reproduction. Flexi printed on clear flexible vinyl with silver embossed ink, edition of 999 hand-numbered copies accompanied by matte printed postcard of 'August 1975' by Jennifer Griffiths.

her needs

Artist : Sandra Plays Electronics

Label : Minimal Wave

her needs / 7"

7" release of primitive Diy electronics by Sandra Plays Electronics, a project founded by Karl O’Connor (Regis) whilst he was a teenager living in Birmingham, England in the 80's. O’Connor, mostly known for his pioneering work in the techno field (as Regis, Sandwell District, British Murder Boys, Ugandan Methods and various other entities) as well as his Downwards label, began playing and recording his own music when he was 16 years old. He collaborated with friends performing in short-lived bands such as Family Sex and also recorded on his own as Sandra Plays Electronics. He was heavily influenced by D.A.F., Liaisons Dangereuses, Cabaret Voltaire and Soft Cell, to name a few and would eventually collaborate with Robert Görl and also Chrislo Haas in the late 90's. The tracks we are presenting here are 2 versions of the same song, "Her Needs", both recorded in Birmingham, England. The 1st was recorded in 1988 during soundcheck at the College of Food And Domestic Arts and the second was recorded in 1999 (from the Man Has Responsibilities session) at the Ice House. Pressed on heavy weight 70gr ultra clear vinyl, the 7" is housed in a matte double sided printed foldover sleeve. Limited to 999 hand-numbered copies.

smile with the eyes

Artist : Five Times Of Dust

Label : Minimal Wave

smile with the eyes / 2x12"

Double LP of selections of unreleased material from the prolific outsider / underground duo Five Times Of Dust. Formed in 1980 in Bristol, the duo of Mark Phillips & Robert Lawrence came together with a shared passion for krautrock, industrial electronics and the burgeoning Diy tape scene as well as being influence by the dadaist movement and the works of Burroughs and Ballard. Unconventional and quirky, yet at times melancholic and romantic their music was a perfect escape from the urban decay of early 80's Bristol and Cardiff, the 2 cities they travelled between at weekends to recored. Although unashamedly electronic, the sound of Five Time Of Dust is far harder to pin down, in part perhaps due to their location. Both Phillips & Lawrence produced music that owed little to any scene happening in London, Manchester or Sheffield at the time. As a result, the majority of their output are perfectly formed electronic curiosities. The material on 'Smile With The Eyes' spans recordings Lawrence and Phillips made between 1982-1986. As a follow up to 'The Dadacomputer', their debut cassette release as a duo which we reissued earlier this year, 'Smile With The Eyes' remains lo-fi but is musically more complex. The recordings are catchy, curious and emotionally rich. Whereas 'The Dadacomputer' could be compared with the early output of Robert Rental, 'Smile With The Eyes' is a collection of works that stands all on its own. Pressed on 180gr black vinyl and housed in a heavyweight gatefold sleeve. Limited edition to 500 numbered copies.

irene & mavis

Artist : Blancmange

Label : Minimal Wave

irene & mavis / 10"

A 10" reissue of Blancmange's seminal debut ep 'Irene & Mavis'. Formed in the UK by Neil Arthur & Stephen Luscombe, Blancmange recorded the 6 songs on 'Irene & Mavis' in 1979 and released it as a 7"ep in 1980. 'Irene & Mavis', though not exactly representative of what Blancmange later went on to become, is a fascinating relic that captures the gestation period of the duo, fresh out of art school and keen to experiment. The Diy sound of the ep fits right in there with the early output of Soft Cell, the Human League, and Cabaret Voltaire; but what separates it from those like-minded releases of the time is that its even more distinctly English. In fact it was Daniel Miller, supporter and Mute boss himself who 1st recognized this when he proclaimed them 'the maiden aunts of electronic music'. The ep is simultaneously pioneering, provincial, and surreal in its down-to-earth playfulness and lack of artifice. It stands out as an important record, capturing the mundane with modern electronics and remains as an artifact representative of the band before they went on to reach pop chart success.

machine ŕ laver / ultrabase

Artist : In Aeternam Vale

Label : Minimal Wave

machine ŕ laver / ultrabase / 12"

3rd 12" single from French favorites In Aeternam Vale. This one is in the same vein as the 'Dust Under Brightness' 12" and 'La Piscine' 12". The single features 2 more epic, pioneering masterpieces. "Machine A Laver" is a 12 minutes of pure electronic hypnotica. And the flip side is a more straightforward 127bpm 11 minute number entitled "Ultrabase", which is an unashamed slab of innovative dub techno from 1990, existing completely outside of its genre. Neither of these tracks have ever been released before. The pressing is limited to 999 copies, all pressed on 160gr clear electric blue vinyl, accompanied by a hand-numbered matte printed sleeve.

Artist : Hard Corps

Label : Minimal Wave

rarities / LP

Strictly limited edition release of rare tracks by UK legends Hard Corps. They were true innovators of the 80's UK synth-pop scene. Apart from their releases on Survival and Polydor, Hard Corps gained some notoriety for their unique and uncompromising live shows throughout the 80's. It was the juxtaposition between their hard edged industrial sound and the fragile and enigmatic vocals of French front woman Regine Fetet that created an unusual dichotomy, lending to their strength of character as a band and thus allowing them to stand out from the rest. A 12" white label, released by Survival Records, containing the hammering rhythmic attack of "Dirty" and the softer, melodic, pulse of "Respirer" (To Breathe) was circulated around London's dancefloors. In no time a wave of attention hit them and throughout 1984 and into 1985 they dominated the independent pop charts. John Peel championed them on his infamous late night Radio One show and they headlined at his ICA Rock Week in the Mall, London. By 1985 Hard Corps had signed with major label giants Polydor. This enabled the band to work with a couple of their favoured and respected producers, Martin Rushent (known mostly for his exceptional work with the Human League) and Depeche Mode producer and Mute Records supremo, Daniel Miller. These sessions provided the public with just one single due to the labels non-promotion, "Je Suis Passée", a sweeping arrangement of breathtaking beauty, combining pumping sequences and sheer power of emotion of Regine's voice. The band went on a major tour with The Cure in 1985 and Depeche Mode in 1988, before finally disintegrating. As a follow up to 'Clean Tables Have To Be Burnt' (2012), 'Rarities' compiles the outtakes and demos that were left behind. Tracks that truly never saw the light of day. They have finally been remastered and released as a cassette and 12" vinyl (edition of 300). The vinyl is pressed on 180gr clear vinyl, accompanied by a numbered 8" x 10" photographic print of the band..

shake your molecules

Artist : Soma Holiday

Label : Minimal Wave

shake your molecules / 12"

Remastered reissue of Soma Holiday's cult classic, "Shake Your Molecules". Soma Holiday was a Franco-American duo consisting of Jean-Marc Vallod (FR) and Jane Honicker (US), based in Williamsburg, Brooklyn back in the early 80's. They recorded "Shake Your Molecules" along with "Too Many People" and "Art Dimension" in 1984, at Unique Studios in Manhattan. The studio was known for being the 1st NYC studio with MIDI capabilities. With the help of Eric Dufaure, they had their 12" released on Cachalot Records in the US, and later a further pressing was made by Les Disques Du Soleil Et De L'Acier in France. Whilst in NYC, they worked with Jay Burnett, a protégé of Arthur Baker, who was active in the synth-pop, hip-hop and electro scenes. He engineered their 24 track recording sessions at Unique and later went on to collaborate with Adam 'MCA' Yauch of the Beastie Boys on a 12" for Def Jam as well as doing a mix of the cult classic I.O.U. by Freeez. That quintessential NYC electro / hop-hop sound infused with the French new-wave sensibility is what ended up making "Shake Your Molecules" such a unique dancefloor hit. Here are the 4 beautifully remastered tracks by Soma Holiday: the original "Shake Your Molecules" mix, the unreleased dub version and 2 other unreleased outtakes of "Too Many People" and "Art Dimension", all from their 1984 studio recordings at Unique Recording Studios. Pressed on 180gr oxblood vinyl and limited to 999 copies. Full color gloss sleeve with 2 sided insert featuring photograph of Soma Holiday in front of their home in Brooklyn and full liner notes with text by Jean-Marc Vallod.

want need

Artist : Sandra Electronics

Label : Minimal Wave

want need / 12"

6-song ep by the UK/US duo Sandra Electronics. Originally formed as Sandra Plays Electronics by Karl O'Connor (aka Regis) in 1988, the project has evolved over the years to become a collaborative endeavor with Juan Mendez (aka Silent Servant). 3 of the tracks were 1st released as an 'Untitled' 10" on Downwards in 2010, and the record quickly sold out. Those songs have been re-edited and remastered for this ep, and 3 more rare demos and live versions have been added. The songs can be described as hypnotic industrial electronic mantras with enigmatic keyboards and treated vocals. Each track draws the listener in, with its repetitive psychedelic percussion and dark affected vocal. The record is a hand-numbered edition of 999 copies pressed on 180gr ultra clear vinyl, and housed in a high quality heavy weight printed sleeve featuring a vintage photograph of Samia Gamal.

never lose your shadow

Artist : Richard H. Kirk

Label : Minimal Wave

never lose your shadow / 12"

We're honored to present a 12" ep of tracks from the archives of Sheffield based electronic music legend Richard H. Kirk, entitled "Never Lose Your Shadow". Kirk 1st came to prominence in the 70's as a member of the seminal industrial band Cabaret Voltaire. His 1st release as a solo artist, Disposable Half-Truths, came out in 1980 on Throbbing Gristle's Industrial Records label and since then he developed a solo career parallel to the band until its dissolution in 1994. On the ep, MW compile tracks originally recorded between 1978 and 1987, which have never before been released on vinyl. The title track, 'Never Lose Your Shadow' blurs the lines between harsh industrial, dance floor, and no wave. This is one we've been playing out for a while now and wondering why it hadn't been pressed on vinyl. The other 3 tracks are more experimental and reference ideas Kirk was exploring in Cabaret Voltaire at the time. When asked specifically about this collection, Kirk explains that 'none of the tracks were outtakes for Cabaret Voltaire, they were always solo tracks, although I think "Never Lose Your Shadow" was vey much a blueprint for the material that Cabaret Voltaire recorded for Virgin / Some Bizarre between 1983-85. The minimal sequencer / drum machine lockdown that I used later for Cabaret Voltaire was pioneered on this track. Lyrically, "Never Lose Your Shadow" was inspired by the 1971 speed freak road movie Vanishing Point, amongst other things'. The ep is limited to 999 hand-numbered copies!

Artist : Guyer's Connection

Label : Minimal Wave

portrait / LP

Reissue of the seminal 1st album from Swiss wavers, Guyer's Connection. Tibor Csébits & Philippe Alioth formed Guyer's Connection in Basel, Switzerland when they were only 14 & 15 years old. At the time they were in a new-wave rock band called Kurtzschluss which they decided to break from in order to make purely electronic music. They began with 2 synthesizers, a drum machine, a 4-track tape recorder and a multitude of ideas. They channeled their unique and humorous vision into their 1st album, entitled "Portrait" which they produced themselves and self-released in 1983. Over the years, the album became a highly sought after minimal synth cult classic. It stands alone as one of the strongest examples of Swiss minimal-wave, and probably the only one that is in Baseldytsch. The Portrait reissue is presented in a high quality gloss sleeve, with artwork to match their original sleeve design from 1983. The record features newly remastered audio pressed on 180gr black vinyl, as a hand-numbered edition of 999. Must-Have!

gnd lift

Artist : In Aeternam Vale

Label : Minimal Wave

gnd lift / 12"

4th 12" single from our French favorites, In Aeternam Vale. This one features another monumental 14 minute techno masterpiece called "Gnd Lift". On the flip side are 2 pure wave tracks, "J'ai Mangé Des Nerfs" and "Animals Don't Mind". "Gnd Lift" is a slow building hazy hypnotic track with heavy atmosphere, fitting perfectly on a smoke filled dance floor. "J’ai Mangé Des Nerfs" is a classic vocal driven synth-pop track with the grit characteristic of In Aeternam Vale's 80's cassette works. The 12" closes with "Animals Don't Mind", a slow and deeply emotive smoldering darkwave track that speaks directly to the heart, this one feels the most personal thus far. The 'Gnd Lift' 12" shows us all sides of In Aeternam Vale, his strengths lying in his ability to create both techno masterpieces and classic underground wave tracks, moving seamlessly from one to the next. None of these tracks have ever been released before although In Aeternam Vale has been performing them live recently with much acclaim. The pressing is limited to 999 copies, all pressed on 160gr clear transparent deep purple vinyl, accompanied by a hand-numbered matte printed sleeve...

new mexico

Artist : Oppenheimer Analysis

Label : Minimal Wave

new mexico / 2x12"

Newly remastered deluxe double album of archival material by pioneering 80's minimal electronic duo Oppenheimer Analysis. Oppenheimer Analysis formed in London, England in 1982 by Andy Oppenheimer & Martin Lloyd. Their 1st meeting though was at the 1979 World Science Fiction Convention in Brighton. They quickly became good friends, sharing an interest in the work of David Bowie, electronic music and early synthesizer bands such as the Human League and Soft Cell. They also shared a love of old science fiction movies, 50's graphics and comic book imagery and a fascination with post-World War II propaganda, the politics and aesthetics of the Cold War, and the social impact of the atomic bomb. Over the next few years Andy and Martin frequented the growing club scene, including Studio 21 on Oxford Street, and became involved in the developing Futurist and New Romantic style sub-cultures. During this period Martin recorded as Analysis, both alone and with David Rome of Drinking Electricity. They released their 1st single, 'Surface Tension/Connections' on David's Survival label in 1981. In 1982, Oppenheimer Analysis began writing and recording together at Feedback Studio in Battersea, and performed several times at The Bell, Islington, the 1983 World David Bowie Convention in Hammersmith, the Starzone Birthday Party at Camden Palace, the 1984 European Science Fiction Convention in Brighton and other live venues. Their 1st demo tape and 12 song 'New Mexico' cassette were sold at gigs and by mail-order, and were reviewed in Melody Maker, Sounds and Soundmaker. For the years to follow, Oppenheimer Analysis became recognized among electro-music aficionados as a pioneering duo who influenced countless other bands during the club and home-recording era of the early 80's and beyond. Their cassettes became massively collectible. In 2005 they re-formed with the release of a self-titled four song 12"ep of selections from the 'New Mexico' cassette, including "Cold War" and "The Devil's Dancers". This marked the 1st release on Minimal Wave. Now in 2015, the entire 'New Mexico' collection, newly remastered and cut to vinyl for the 1st time ever, celebrates 10 year anniversary of Minimal Wave. This 1st edition of 1000 copies is pressed on deluxe 'nuclear' style black and white 160gr vinyl, housed in a glossy gatefold silver and black printed sleeve, featuring all the song lyrics on the inside of the sleeve. This quintessential reissue has been produced in loving memory of Martin Lloyd. RIP

Linear Movement is Belgian mastermind Peter Bonne (aka A Split-Second, Twilight Ritual, Autumn) joined by Peter Koutstaal & Lieve Van Steerteghem contributing vocals on the final track. The songs "The Linear Way" and "Don't Try To Trick Me" appeared on the exquisite Pulse Music cassette (released by the Micrart Group in 1983) while the rest were never officially released. the invitation of the dead

Artist : Tomo Akikawabaya

Label : Minimal Wave

the invitation of the dead / 2x12"

Exquisite double LP release by obscure Japanese artist Tomo Akikawabaya. After working through the track selection and artwork ideas, MW & Akikawabaya came up with the release plan. 'The Invitation Of The Dead' is a collection of songs include the entirety of both The Castle (1984) and Anju (1985) releases, all newly remastered. They sound fresher and stronger than ever before, exactly as the artist had intended them to sound when he recorded them 30 years ago. The songs that span this double LP are personal and unique; they are dark synth-pop gems. The artist still remains a mystery, as does his relationship to the model Rena Anju featured on this and all but one of his album covers (Kojiki to Onna). 'The Invitation Of The Dead' double LP is a limited edition of 999 copies. Edition pressed on 160gr black vinyl for the A/B sides and white vinyl for the C/D sides. It is presented in a gatefold sleeve designed by Peter Miles featuring cover photo by Alao Yokogi.

missing tapes

Artist : Das Ding

Label : Minimal Wave

missing tapes / LP

Strong album of long lost tracks by Dutch electronic music pioneer Das Ding, entitled 'Missing Tapes'. Danny Bosten formed Das Ding as a solo project in the early 80's and released his music and friends' music via his own cassette label called Tear Apart Tapes. At the time, he was studying graphic design at art school, and in turn he ended up designing the artwork, cassette-sleeves and illustrations for the label himself. Meanwhile, he recorded his own music as Das Ding. Powerful dark electro, he made several addictive and danceable tracks which later become hits. Danny made all his music in his bedroom which essentially turned into a small recording studio. He went on to release many of his own tapes and also played some live gigs. Old tapes were uncovered around 2010, and MW released a remastered version of 'H.S.T.A.' and select other tracks. A wave of renewed interest followed the record's release and soon people were in touch to propose live shows. 20 years later, and after some deliberation, Das Ding was reincarnated under its old moniker but now with a revised line-up and a working set-up that reflected inevitable technological change. Recently, Danny came across further tape archives from those early days. And from the batch, MW selected their favorites to present us in vinyl release form. 'Missing Tapes' is a limited edition LP pressed on 180gr creamy yellow vinyl, and housed in a heavy weight printed glossy black and white sleeve featuring one of Danny's original illustrations from 1982. Essential !

kindheitsmuster / 7"

7” single of 2 early demos ("Kindheitsmuster" and "Raid") by Dutch electronic music pioneer Das Ding. The final versions of these tracks were released on 'H.S.T.A.' and the 'Missing Tapes', respectively. The versions here are the most raw and electric recordings we have heard by Das Ding yet. The 'Kindheitsmuster / Raid' 7" is pressed on black vinyl, featuring a photograph that Danny Bosten took during his art school days, and the inspiration for the cover drawing of the 'H.S.T.A.' cassette release from 1982. The 7" is limited to 500 numbered copies.

the floor mixes

Artist : Five Times Of Dust / Unovidual & Tara Cross

Label : Minimal Wave

the floor mixes / 12"

2 classic Minimal Wave tracks which have been on heavy rotation for years now, "Computer Bank" and "Like I Am, Comme Je Suis" remixed by The Floor (aka Veronica Vasicka & Karl O'Connor). Five Times Of Dust was formed in Bristol (UK) in 1981 by Mark Phillips & Rob Lawrence. Mark had answered an advert that Rob had placed in a local record shop and later that year they went on to record and release their 1st tape, 'The Dadacomputer'. A standout track from that tape, "Computer Bank" is a seminal, 'proto-techno banger'. The Floor remixed it a while ago to Dj it out and since then have been receiving many requests about where it could be purchased. The flip side features Unovidual & Tara Cross' "Like I Am / Comme Je Suis". It appeared on MW 1st compilation entitled 'The Lost Tapes' LP, released in 2006. Unovidual was a Belgian producer involved with the Micrart Group (Autumn, Linear Movement, Twilight Ritual) and Tara Cross, a 'long lost girl from Brooklyn' who used to play in small NYC downlown clubs alongside Madonna during the early 80's when she was still an unknown. Unovidual & Tara collaborated on several tracks through the mail during this time as well as in the studio. "Like I Am / Comme Je Suis" was recorded in a studio in Ghent (Belgium), in 1985. We find both of these tracks prime examples of innovative and pioneering synth wave tracks that work on and off the dancefloor. And through these mixes, The Floor aim to stay true to the artists' original intentions whilst making the songs more dancefloor oriented. Featured alongside these remixes, are 2 unreleased tracks. Rob Lawrence's "Armoured Car" which at one point was released on a compilation CD as Robert (not to be confused with Rob Doran from Hard Corps) and Unovidual's "Imponative", a beautiful minimal synth track which has remained unreleased to this day. The Five Times Of Dust / Unovidual & Tara Cross ep is pressed on standard weight royal blue clear vinyl and housed in a hand stamped disco sleeve. Limited to 600 numbered copies..!

je ai dissous

Artist : In Aeternam Vale + Anneq

Label : Minimal Wave

je ai dissous / 12"

Unique collaboration between one of our long time favorite artists, In Aeternam Vale & Anneq, a stunning young Madrid-based vocalist originally from Minsk, Belarus. In Aeternam Vale & Anneq met in 2011 and began to collaborate in 2015. In Aeternam Vale, originally from Lyon, has been making synthesizer based electronic music since the early 80's, when he began to self-release many of his recordings on cassette. As the years went on his cold and caustic synthpunk sound, often primitive and hypnotic evolved into rhythmic, throbbing music for the dancefloor, his own unique style of techno. On this record, In Aeternam Vale & Anneq come together to create 2 very different versions of the same track, one fit for the club and the other a more intimate version, for quiet listening at home. "Je Ai Dissous", the opener, is a dark smoky track with a hypnotic, cyclical underlay reminiscent of early industrial music while the Page R version of the same track trandscends the floor and becomes completely filmic. Anneq's seductive vocal is suspended in a beatless, cavernous void. Side-B opens with "Tendencia", a very classic catchy minimal wave style track, sung in Spanish. The V6 version of Tendencia again focuses on Anneq's voice set in a darker, slower more atmospheric melody. The 4 tracks culminate in an elegant and thoughtful collaboration from these 2 strong talents that complement one another so well. The 'Je Ai Dissous' ep is pressed on 160gr deep purple 'spilled' inside electric blue transparent vinyl, limited to 999 copies and housed in a gloss printed sleeve..!
